  • I love internet marks roumours..

But this was a great moments right here.

  • Best feud ever in wrestling.

  • Sting said in an interview that he heard that the ref might've been paid off or something by Hogan, but that he [Sting] didn't want to believe that. Whatever the case is...Hogan refuses to lose clean to anyone. He fucked this match up because he's a dick with a massive ego. I can't imagine how pissed off Sting must've been after the Starrcade match, having his big rise to the top fucked up by Hogan behind his back. And then to lose the title later that week...ridiculous.

  • @tncl85 You do know its all scripted and fake right.

  • Starrcade 97 was WCW's only chance at taking over the wrestling Business entering the New Millenium. But, Eric Bischoff had to screw it up!

  • sting talks way to much now...

  • "You have no guts!"

  • lol i remember the days i used to think wrestling was real and took it seriously. you can't beat that feeling

  • i thought crow sting was perfect because sting never really had good interview skills so when he did talk as crow sting it mattered

  • its sad tna still think stuff like works

  • I was always wondered about this. They claimed the ref did a fast count but it was normal count. Maybe no one told Nick Patrick about the storyline.

  • The fact Hogan never seemed to want to drop the belt cleanly or ever lose cleanly, I'm amazed he dropped it to Goldberg the way he did...

  • @Nyvie87 That statement proves that he is a true ego maniac. What does he want? To hold the World Heavyweight Title until the day he dies?

  • I remember watching this and being like oh my god sting just spoke again after like a year and half.

  • A complete fiasco after having built up a great storyline for over a year.

  • They should have just given Hogan back the belt, lets face it he won, when you pin your opponent 1,2,3 usually you win. Sting should have been disqualified because of interference on the part of Bret hart anyway. Biggest fiasco in wcw history. Bret never knew who's side he was on anyway.

  • Nick Patrick did not make a fast count. Even if he had, it would still be stupid because Hogan had dominated Sting in that match. No, this was WCW booking swerves and screwing fans. They should have just had a clean match. But perhaps it was too much to ask for Hogan to lose clean.

  • that stage was amazing

  • the belt was bigger then

  • i still love how lee marshall wouldnt stfu. I guess thats where Tenay learned it

  • @redfury0156 LMMFAO! Word! and I like Tony Shavoni's tone when he said "sting has spoke". that was a very awesome time!

  • Given the magnitude of this moment (Sting talking for the first time, on camera in about a year and a half at this point), You'd figure he'd get a bigger pop than the one that happened.

  • ..i remember when i was the WCW champ..on the SNES..good times.

  • Ironically, this was the downfall of WCW. They were the show and they didn't have anyone with the balls to tell Hogan, Nash, etc., to shut up and do their job. Would this have happened with Vince? Nope because Vince was the boss. Bischoff was a paper leader as in paper thin. He knew that the talent drew but the talent are just that talent. Hogan had too much power in WCW and it showed here. That was one of the worest PPVs ever.

  • @batmanjwo This was downfall of nothing. Ratings and buyrates went up after, so they did a good job.

  • @wsymphony And by the end of 1998, they started to lose money?????

  • @batmanjwo Which had nothing to with booking.

  • ya ya, he SHOULD have made a fast 3 count... but sting should have kicked out

  • WCW made the right decision at Starrcade to end in controversary, since 1998 was their greatest year ever. The only problem was Nick Patrick totally screwed up.

  • @wsymphony Actually, the rumor is that Hulk Hogan paid Patrick off so he would do a normal count.

  • @batmanjwo That rumor, I believe, has been squashed several times, not just by Hogan but by Nick Patrick as well.

  • The beginning of the end for WCW. I loved watching WCW when I was a kid... they tried too hard to be WWE and not themselves which was their downfall.

  • haha look at nash blowing snot rockets on jj

  • Hogan doesn't realize that losing doesn't make you less popular, putting on a bad show does. And that's exactly what he did at Starrcade 97 (and the atrocious Starrcade 99)

  • @Neoquaker111 Yeah. He should have loss to Sting cleanly and then that should have been the end of both the feud and the nWo, allowing WCW to move on to new things, IMO anyways.

  • @Neoquaker111 Yeah. He should have loss to Sting cleanly and then that should have been the end of both the feud and the nWo, allowing WCW to move on to new things, IMO anyways.

  • The "surfer boy" Sting was way better than the "crow" Sting.

  • Sting throws the belt down, shoves JJ and tells him he has no guts...then points the bat at Hogan and gives him the most evil look ever and in an eerily calm voice says, "You're a dead man."....Sting was at his most badass during this time!

  • Sting has spoken! LOL love it!

  • Is the finish for the match banned from YouTube? I can't find it anywhere on here.

  • @donvito7534 It's fucking disappeared. That's more controversial than the ending itself!

  • New World Order = Scientology?

    Eric Bischoff = Tom Cruise?

Hulk Hogan = Evil Santa Claus?

Kevin Nash = The Evil Oversized Jesus?

  • the Starcade 96 Stinger was way better than the Starcade 97 Sting

  • Comment removed

  • Did I anybody see that someone throw a towel at sting? Funny. I've would've thrown a towel rack.

  • I'm just going to come out and say it: this was a bigger screw-up than giving david arquette a wcw title run...JUST sayin'

  • WCW was never even in tha runing with WWF. WCW died even b4 this.

  • @Mally87 Yeah, which is why they were ahead in the ratings for about another year...

  • I was at Starrcade 1997 and the match was pretty cut and dry. Hogan pinned Sting 1...2...3! Then they pulled with Bret Hart saying it was a fast count and being he was a official for the night he had the power to order a restart and Sting won. This whole thing was idiotic. It was no fast count. How they had to hold the title belt up is beyond me being the assigned official counted the 1...2...3 and then gets decked by Bret. So either Hogan wins by pin or DQ. LOL!

  • I never saw this because I didn't watch WCW "back then". I was a WWF viewer during the Attitude Era. This segment fell flat from the beginning. No entrance music was terrible (production error?) and for them to make it sound like the big announcement is about a decision they've made. And all along their decision is to vacate it (makes no sense, keep it with champion for time being) until they can make a final decision. So the big announcement (decision) was to say they didn't have a decision.

  • what is that entrance way supposed to be--a bunch of boulders? Always wondered that.

  • @ssmccullough

Looks like boulders... Makes a lot of sense with the whole "Thunder" theme...

  • well here is where wcw began its long road of decline, they built sting hogan for a year sting wins and loses the elt in 24 hours, i seriously at times scratch my head at the booking

  • @TheSilverPhoenix100

yea had they push Sting, who's popularity was unmatched at that time, they may have continued o win the monday night wars. instead the booking got worse and well e now the story....

  • you.... you got no guts.... and you... youre a dead man.... wcw sting kicked ass!!!!

  • hogan shouldve got the title

    N.W.O FTW

  • most devestating blow to wcw..they played this the total wrong way

  • @CQ1981331 Eh, their ratings didn't drop dramatically until the following year and the fingerpoke of doom.

  • @sanddune well yeah but i meant that this was the starting point

  • Nash and the boogers are just flat out funny

  • ah yes the old cheap purple mountian set. I actually went to like the 2nd ever Thunder and remember seeing guys actually pulling those doors back at 0:35 fucking cheap set.

  • i love how sting throws down the belt, pushes j.j and points the bat at him and says " you got no guts" the turns to hogan and says "and you, ha ha, you're a dead man"

  • Comment removed

  • D-Lo?! I think, I think, I think you better reconize, that is Vincent a.k.a. Virgil, the Million Dollar Man's slave.

  • @apologyisnothepolicy Actually, Hogan also screwed his nWo buddies. They weren't able to challenge him after they joined the nWo. Hall, Macho Man, Bret Hart, Big Poppa Pump, none of these guys could challenge Hogan once they were in the nWo. Kevin Nash even laid down for Hogan in a World Title Bout.

  • @jjevans2009

Damn, basically he was the biggest douche in wrestling history .

  • @apologyisnothepolicy ummm who else besides Nash was the champ in the NWO? Ok Savage was for what? 24 hours??? During the most part of the NWO's existance Hogan was the champ. So I'd say that Hogan did screw his NWO buddies.

  • @apologyisnothepolicy No he screwed them too, remember when he teamed with the rock and took out the nwo?

  • @apologyisnothepolicy why hogan srewed wcw?

  • @apologyisnothepolicy & HOGAN SCREWED ??? ALL THE TALENT AT WCW 2011 I MEAN TNA

  • anybody rember the old wcw when it was nwa i watch that with my grandfather since i was 2

  • CLASSIC!!!!

  • You know I always tell everyone. If Nick Patrick had ACTUALLY done a fast 3 count then the whole Starrcade storyline woulda made sense. But Nick Patrick did a completely normal count, and that year-long storyline was completely screwed up.

  • Yea. The blew it big time. After Starrcade 97 they should've revamped everything. And why did Hogan and Sting come out without his music, just to set the tone?Stupid! Good to hear good ol' Lee Marshall though. Even though WCW topped the ratings for a while after this they had nothing to build on anymore and slowly but surely things started tumbling...

  • Yeah at this point Sting should haven ran with the title and Hogan and Savage should have feuded Nash and Hall.

  • Anything better than what ended up happening.

  • But why introduce the fast count storyline in the first place - because Hogan's ego didn't allow for a clean pin!

  • @mainsqueeze1977 Yeah and you should see what he's doing to Sting in TNA now that he runs that joint!

  • @BigRashDog Yeah, and everyone still blames Hogan even though it was Nick Patrick who screwed up the count and the storyline there. Crazy.

  • @BigRashDog And that screw-up was due to Hulk Hogan telling Nick Patrick before the match that the finish had changed, and that he should count at normal speed. Hogan didn't want to look weak, so a perfect build-up of a year-long feud was flushed down the toilet. Hogan is about Hogan, and no one else. Sooner or later he'll do the same thing to TNA.

  • @2redaces

Too late he's done it already TNA is finished

  • @BigRashDog Or if Hogan wouldn't have used creative control and make it in essence a squash match that just so happened to end with Sting making the comeback, would've been even better.

  • why is there no music when they come out

  • there was no need 2

  • A failed attempt at drama.

  • sting is wcw!

  • lol told jj dillion he had no guts and hogan he was a deadman

  • AS U ARE A DICK

  • As I mentioned.

  • I'm not going to say that Rick Rude is the best of all time; but he's definitely one of the greats.

The guy had it all; Sound wrestling skills, a great gimmick (always loved those ALL YOU FAT, OUT OF SHAPE INNER CITY SWEATHOGS promo he did before each match) and he was entertaining. His feud with Jake Roberts is LEGENDARY.

  • Sting HAS SPOKEN

  • And you.... YOUR A DEAD MAN!!!!

  • agreed the worst decisions came as time went along the reformation of the NWO under bret hart was also kind of silly when he didnt need to do that, plus the only good thing about WCW faltering was some stars finally got a well deserved push booker t and scott steiner come to mind.

  • i think that booker t getting pushed was the worst outcome of it, he sucks

  • old school thunder set!

  • @frasermack18 They dropped it after a month. They should have kept it.

  • Hey, it's Baby Huey!

  • Since when was JJ Dillon a face character, as far as I remember he was Ric Flari's evil manager!

  • @shervman

I believe Roddy Piper was appointed to the executive committee & when he was injured JJ took his spot.

  • thanx phillydog

  • I have a question: who was the wcw writing team before Vince Russo's time?

  • Kevin Sullivan I believe.

There were a whole lot of other guys too, and Bischoff and Hogan were doing a lot of writing but Im pretty sure Kevin Sullivan had the job that Russo took up.

  • This is a pro wrestling video not a football video take your stupid argument elsewhere stupid fucks

  • Spanish-41 is right but didn't need to be so rude.

  • Lighten up, B-89. Lightenize. Don't you recognize the use of hyperbole to make a point? B-State is still using that rock-hard Astro Turf for which there is no need or justification. And that blue color is ridiculous. Look at it objectively, as a non-fan. Can you do it, B-89? Well, can ya', Jones?

P.S. Have only a third grade edication.

  • man sting looked so baddass in 97

  • Hi 89:

Most sane folq don't take pride in "painted blue concrete football fields." And only goons + small children are impressed by WWE bore-fests and TNA flum-doodle. Do you roger that transmission, mang? Well, do ya', 89?

  • wwe shrunk the title, wtf where they thinkin?

  • Boise State Univ. football = painted blue concrete football field aka junk . Younger TNA wrestlers = junk. Maybe the oldtimers can save it 'cause god know both it and WWE can't get any worse.

  • I miss these days.. It was so damn different.

  • This was an epic moment in wrestling. Back when kayfabe still existed. I literally could not believe that Sting had finally broken his silence. Ah... Good times. Shame it will never be like this ever again.

  • Sting was my all time hero when i was a kid. His crow gimmick was priceless. Come to the ring not smiling or anything. Talked here and there, but not often. It was just awesome.

TNA has made him more alternative and talkative. He smiles all the time now. It's just not the same as WCW sting.

  • @DWAmichigan

Having watched Sting back when he had the surfer blond hair and crazy face paint, and then as the black and white paint, I have to say that no matter what he wears, he's great.

  • @DWAmichigan finally someone sees the truth, thought i was the only one lol

  • @DWAmichigan so true thats why i hate tna stink vs hogan in tna would be classic but it will never happen

  • @DWAmichigan I agree. He was epic!

  • Sting got screwed. They spent 18 months building him up as the next world champion and it all came to nothing. They botched the finish to an already lackluster match and stripped Sting of the belt. So, Sting regains the title and drops it just two months later. And Hogan wins it back the next night.

A year and a half of build up turns out to be just a gimmick to promote Starrcade and WCW doesn't the leader we were promised. All of this at a crucial time when Austin is on the rise in the WWF.

  • That was the first major fumble WCW had that helped lead to it's demise. They made up for it a little when they gave the belt to Goldberg but that was pretty much their last good move.

  • Yeah tell me about this...I have read about the "normal" 3 count at Starrcade 1997 and with Bret Harts debut but have you ever been able to get footage of it because I haven't seen it on the net? I have always wanted to see it because its like you said, this is what looked like the first of many times of the politics in WCW being played.

  • If there was politics played, Hogan was always in the middle of it. Hogan tried so hard to get out of dropping the title to Sting. The same guy he was running away from like a coward for a year in storyline was the one he wanted to beat and retain the title, but they wouldn't allow it. So he asked for Sting to beat him with outside interference. Major Politics..which would become a theme for WCW.

  • It was indeed a major screw up on their part. The most hyped match of the year was a flop. Hogan pretty much Squashed Sting and had Bret Hart save the day and restart the match, allowing Sting to beat Hogan in the middle of the ring, making Sting look like a total schmuck. Sting never again regained any credibility.

  • Vince Russo was in WWF before he came to the WCW

  • I love sting looks like the crow awsome lol

  • this had to have been one of the first handful of Thunders at the start, that used that bizzare set, I actually saw i think it was the 2nd or 3rd ever thunder, The Giant tore down the ring with scott hall in it *hearts*

  • sting looks scary as shit

  • The Honorable James J. Dillon making a heart wrenching justice decision in placing the World Heavy Weight Championship Belt and title in escrow.

  • what was the controversial ending to the match?

  • its funny how once upon a time everybody was on the wcw bandwagon then came wwf rising up and wcw getting stale and everybody jumped on the wwf bandwagon. and eric bishoff thought he was the man, making fun of wwf thinkin he runs the world, then came awokin was the sleeping GAINT of the wwe! lol but things can be the exact oppiste right now , with wcw on top wwf out of business, people tend to forget that

  • hogans an asshole

  • Yeah I have to agree, if they would have used Bret Hart and put together his own team Canada or something that would have made for some good ratings.

  • Hogan was off WCW TV throughout 1998 and WCW fans were over the nWo thing. It would've been a great chance to push Bret Hart and fully use him to the capacity the WWE had in the past. People didn't care for the nWo anymore and bringing it back at the beginning of '99 was the nail to the coffin.

  • WWF not WWE

  • Then the very first Nitro of 1999, instead of continuing on with a Nash/Goldberg feud for the World Title, they have Hogan poke Nash in the chest, dropping him like a brick in the now infamous Fingerpoke of Doom incident, severely devaluing the WCW World Title as the 2 nWo branches reform. That was it for me. WCW was going down fast.

  • I think the Starrcade screwup was Hogan pulling his usual politics bullshit, getting Nick Patrick to do a regular count when it was supposed to be a fast count. This was the first of many screwups to come for WCW. In July of 1998, they put Hogan vs Goldberg on Nitro because Bischoff was so obsessed with beating RAW in the ratings, so they lost millions in PPV buys. Then at Halloween Havoc 98, the PPV got cut off during the DDP/Goldberg main event and they ended up refunding everyone who got it.

  • was this why sting said the wcw were biased to the heels

  • This was a monumental screw-up by WCW...it started a chain reaction that killed the entire company. Instead of pushing Sting, they end his title reign before it begins. Without a dominant face to keep the nWo in check, the nWo are over-exposed and Sting is neglected, causing both to decline in popularity, and WCW loses their ratings advantage over WWF. Then WWF consolidates their resurgence with their new Attitude stars, while WCW wastes time arguing with their old talent backstage. RIP WCW.

  • I was just typing something similar to this when I saw your post. I agree 100% with you my friend.

  • @garethac81 Eric Bischoff's greatest creation would ironically be his downfall. From everything I've read and seen in my opinion I believe Bischoff was afraid. Afraid of what would happen once the nWo came to an end. Bischoff and the veterans refused to see the bigger picture of the younger stars leading WCW into the new millennium and continued to ask for lucrative contracts. Without new faces (save of course Goldberg) WCW became stale and the new stars of WWF/E conquered wrestling.

  • This had to be so hard for JJ to do.I didn't like his decison then and I don 't like it now but I respect JJ for being brave enough to do it.Sometimes you have to die on your own sword.

  • Wyldfyre.....u know this is fake and scripted right?

  • Aren't all wrestling endings controversial

  • Jeff Hardy is a spot monkey & Rick Rude was better than Jeff.

  • yeah i liked him better back then

now he's gotten this big main even push

  • erik bishoff looks like tom cruise

  • rick rude is not even a top 20 wrestler of all time

  • a rare moment of crow sting w/ the world title

  • jj dillion looks like jim cornett

  • Was that the match where Bret Hart was the special inforcer?

  • yes

  • these 5 wrestlers are better than rick rude

    1 bret hart

    2 shawn michaels

    3 sting

    4 goldberg

    5 jeff hardy

  • Goldberg????? He must be one of the worst I have ever seen...He finished the Hitman's career for God's sake!!!!!!!

  • Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Sting....I'm not gonna argue.

    Jeff Hardy, Goldberg? Piss off.

  • hahahaha well i see ur point but now i think about triple h and taker are better

  • taker is old and fat he moves soo slow

  • Trendney18, Taker is actually pretty quick for his age. He still leaps over the top rope onto his opponents on the floor. Just watch his WM match against Batista a couple years back.

  • Or last WM. or the WM 2 years ago.

  • EXACTLY! He's always had a more old school style with somewhat a slower pace, but he can pick up the tempo with the best of them. And who cares anyway? That entrance is worth the price of admission ALONE!

  • These are the five wrestlers better then Rick Rude

    1. Sting

    2. Kerry Von Erich

    3. Goldberg

    4. Bret Hart

    5. Shawn Michaels

  • Dont get wrong rick rude is one of the best wrestlers, but he's not the best of all time.

  • That was so cool when the Hulk went bad. Sting has written a book about his life, Sting is a Christian now. Cool with me. Shawn

  • U sure about that. The best wrestler of all time is Bruno Sammartino.

  • Starcade was built up sooo good i mean one of the best build ups ever and then hogan for i belive selfish reasons activates creative control and it becomes a joke and i belive that was the begining of the end for wcw.

  • Andy19831. I agree. At this point they had no idea what to do. Instead of letting Sting run with the belt they ruined it. Up to that point Goldberg had not risen to the heights he did later in 1998 but I might have enjoyed a Sting vs. Goldberg feud for 1998. It would have been something compete with RAW and the Vince vs. Austin gimmick. And they could have still had the nWo split with the Wolfpac and all, but they didn't have much else that was fresh after that. I could go on and on lol.

  • this was stupid. Sting's victory should have been a clean win, but Hogan had to enact his create control and destroy a main event that they had been building up to since Sting first reappeared in his Crow gimmick. that's one of the things that ruined WCW - too many big stars with create control dictating storyline just so they could protect their own fucking egos.

and Sting's first words in months had no impact. there's no pop from the crowd and they just rush to commercial. what a waste.

  • you asshole.. Starcade is the arcade show.. starrcade with two 2's is this wrestling shit that fucks up keyword searches

  • 3:45-3:53

You see two towels being thrown in the ring. The first one missed entirely, while the second one hit his head/face.

  • Daniels isn't Curryman.
