  • A great song and a great band despite de 80s. If you don't trust me, read the interviews with Steve Kilbey about de 80s. He hates them musically.

  • Amazing

  • The Melbourne Commonwealth games (2006) organisers played this song during a night time light show on the Yarra (at Birrarung Mar). Just spectacular. That is when I fell in love with this song.

  • I don't care what brought your asses here, as long as you are here listening.

  • This is for my boy Klum-z

  • I was reading something unrelated online that had a line that ended "under the milky way"...and this song bolted back to my memory...I searched for and found it here...and I've found that it still does what it did to me back in the eighties...I listen to it and I simultaneously feel like soaring high on an updraft in the clear blue sky, running along arms outstretched in the surf of a lonely beach, bathing under a shaded forest waterfall and weeping in an open flower-rich field...It's amazing...

  • Listened to this great song and the Crocodiles album on cassette while driving on the Texas coastline with my girlfriend in the fall many years ago ~2006. Stormy weather of course. What a great memory..

  • Long time no hear..............Love it

  • Hermosa cancion

  • Great song of a great era!!! :)

  • I've heard this song described in many ways in the decades since its release -- but to the one who wrote this song as 'amazing'... well put and accurate. It's certainly a rare song and one that has yet to be matched.

  • what's happening to the music in these days :(

  • @J0freak Are you serious? The music today is fantastic. It has never been more accessible to people who want to make it, and it's never been easier to get ahold of due to the internet. Before you believe today has no good music, look beneath the radio. Do blog searches. Check the album of the year lists on blogs or websites that specialize in the kind of music you like. I recommend The Silent Ballet; they have a lot of great contemporary classical, post-rock and electronic music. Check it out.

  • I wish i knew what you were looking for...

  • These guys sang that song? I only knew them for "Church of Logic, Sin and Love". I'll be damned... a TWO hit wonder. Good song nonetheless.

  • great album!!! timeless stuff

  • ""Lyrically, it captures a feeling of sweet uncertainty. I've set up a very vague world, once you enter it you populate it with your own details. It doesn't mean anything, but that doesn't mean it means nothing.""- comment on the song by its author. quoted from adelaidenow online

  • @digoxin This is a gem. Life can be harsh. Especially when you learn how to love.

  • 46 people DISliked this??? What is there in one of the best tracks by any Australian band to dislike? Some people need their heads reading.

  • U dont find good music like this anymore such a pity

  • :) this is amazing

  • Natalie Tiehen, this certainly was real nice on Broadway at Times Square!

  • like this.

    long live the new wave!!!!!!

  • Haunting - love it Steve!

    Still!!

  • donnie darko

  • Donnie Darko.

  • BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER.

  • @ChrissieBana RIGHT?

  • @Biverix Totally. And Michael Andrews' score. I fucking love the movie and its soundtrack.

  • Comment removed

  • Brilliant song~love the 1980's~my time!

  • @Biverix Such a great movie.

I was eight years old when this song came out and I remember at the time I really liked Van Halen and I thought this song was "Gay".

    I was eight.

Now I am 31 and I love this song and everything The Church has made.

I am married to a beautiful woman. I guess the song was not "gay"...

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • Such a sexy song. Love it!

  • CLASSIC. Gorgeous. Timeless.

  • @73mandala Cabaret Voltaire were British... but you got most of the rest correct... Australia was going through a musical peak during the 70's and 80's... the world didn't notice the bulk of great stuff... it only got the samples (INXS, AC/DC, Men At Work, Air Supply, etc, etc ... okay, I'm starting to run out of breath.)

  • singer Steve Kilbey is an interesting person to have as a facebook 'friend'... his rants and blast outs are a laugh.

  • great song from the 80s.

  • Best TRUTH Classic Church Music of the Wasted and Mutant Products Generation!

  • They really are aptly named. Their music is so spiritual. Is it my imagination or did they play the East Village the Summer of 88? Whether or not I actually saw them live in NY or Boston I feel as if I have. To those of us who choose to listen and love them they give us the gift of a moment or a memory with them. This song is so sacred.

  • For me...The best romantic song ever written!!!!Had the best summer when this came out!

  • Me encanta¡¡

  • Interesting stats! This song should of been top ten all over the world. Fantastic song writing and production. I loved the song then. I love it now!

  • This song reminds me of when I had just got my license, my first car, gas was .99 cents a gallon and I had all the time in the world with my friends to go anywhere and do anything we wanted to....

  • this song gives me chills. i imagine our beautiful vast landscape and envision the whole world sharing one love

  • @lyrastylin Well said......

  • the best

  • GREAT SONG ~~~~~THANK YOU STP aka SAINT PIO & CO~ BLESSED BE THE CHILD

  • zajebyoza

  • Ufffff.k buen tema?

  • Where is the HD!?

  • cant stop listening to this song, album has just been bought and with good reason, great band so glad i found them

  • Thumbs up if the milky way commercial brought you here.................

  • love this song...love this song...love this song...

  • Why is it that most younger people want someone to kill themselves, if that other person happens to disagree with their likes? I love this music.. Unquestioned. But I, as a more matured listener, have noticed younger persons wishing ill health or even death to others that don't agree with their thinking. Kinda scary!...

  • @hydromorph1965 Its the internet you can say whatever you want, so the whole seriousness of saying that person should kill themselves wears off as you do not know them, you cannot see them and nothing happens towards you when you say it. From that, the whole big deal of saying something like "They should kill themselves" becomes nothing more than a new way of saying you disagree with another persons view. It could be bad, it could be good, but that is what it is now.

  • @curtisdooley Yea, I know what the Internet is! lol! I'm not that old! I appreciate your time in explaining that 'ever wanting to know why' expression to me. And, I have learned from it! Tks! It just seems disturbing to me as an "older schooler' to hear something like that. I guess it's because I am 'old school'! lol! I don't know. It just seems a bit harsh to me. But, now I understand. Tks, Curtis. Shawn

  • @curtisdooley Hey Curtis! BTW, I'm glad that you like 'old school' alternative. As we elderly called it! You have great taste in music! Keep listening! C'ya! Shawn

  • I'm just glad that a million other people got to enjoy this with me. You dislikers can go do something threatening to your health.

  • I WISH MUSIC OF TODAY SOUND LIKE THAT!!!

  • no wheres no chirsnctgd

  • Fantastic song.. Anne / Sweden

  • @Anne071000 fantastica

  • The reason I learned to play guitar...

  • Comment removed

  • Love this song even though it's one of their more commercial hits. The Album 'Seance' is a classic.

  • I fell for this song when it came out 1988...I loved driving to it...It would and still does give me goose bumps. It also descibed a crazy relationship I was trying to deal with in my early 20's now 47...where has the time gone. Kids enjoy your youth because one day you'll wake up and find yourself old , the years roll faster with every year...

  • 44 people probably not over 30....lol... 44 people not sure what good music is

  • I think I want to live in the videobox if they play music like this.

  • Alternative Rock

    Que denominación mas estupida

  • @nuevoruidoabsurdo psicodelic post-punk !

  • 6wf 720 played this just now.Another good Oz band.

  • Great song!

  • great aussie band

  • Brilliant as always. Saw them many times in Canberra when I was a bit younger, in the early eighties before they hit it big, at least in Oz. Steve is a great bloke, fantastic band

  • only way to listen to this is full vol loved this song

  • Great late 80's track!

    Jman

  • Thumbs up if youve heard this song from Sia first, but you like both versions :D

  • love the flow of the chorus, it's just so smooth. Wish I knew what you were looking for, might have known what you might find.

  • I do love this song... Fav memory. Coming out of the Valley in 1988 about 3am from a 3 day wedding in Mexico with my Brother. Our old '78 Bonneville didn't have a radio so we had a Boom box sitting between us in the front seat listening to a comp tape. This was song number 1, 7 and 13 on the A side. I miss you Bro...

  • love the descending bass counter melody pattern

  • @glueforall Yeah me too.

  • I havent heard this song in 20 years. Wow, added it to my favorites.

  • this guy actually has the same voice as Michael Hutchence, This singer can sing for Inxs... some people would agree with me...

  • @GaleasAg1 Yes I can hear a resemblance in their voices. Both great singers. To me they both have great voices but not in the traditional cookie cutter American Idol style. They have a uniqueness that so many artists lack.

  • This song has such a beautiful, haunting quality to it. I've always loved it, just mesmerizing.

  • I remember this video when MTV actually had music programming.

  • These Australians Rock! Where have the good music of the 80s gone...sigh.

  • @tubebino8 VH1 Classic

  • This song captures the eerie madness of splintered personality that cannot recognize lucidly the wholeness of the absolute.

  • Back in the 1980s/early 1990s, I was into The Smithereens, The Plimsouls, X, The Ramones, and Screaming Trees. The Church, The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and Peter Murphy were just about the only synth-type artists/bands I listened to. This song is pure genius -- pure light.

  • Listening to this... the only thing it comes to my head is that 80s had all the music someone need... any time

  • just around 2:50 is it Michael Schenker weirdly lookin' and screaming at his hand ?

  • velhas noites andando sob a estrada de estrelas.como era bom...........

  • DONNIE DARKO

  • What is she looking for ?

  • bloody brilliant sounds just as good now as it ever did shame i never saw them in concert, cheers ..maico2260

  • This a really great song that my YT buddy UC turned me on to. He was on ships that docked in Australia. I do agree that the best songs were from the "80's. It was marvelous to sit home and listen to music on my 4 pounding Pioneer speakers.

  • just a class act, loved them ever since the formed

  • Sublime and resplendent tune. Sweet dreams -- Will Robinson, Commander Frank Poole, and Major Tom.

  • The best version (my opinion).

  • @mickeymousebiker1 It should be. Steve Kilby co-wrote it.

  • @StoogeWatcher Then, Steve Kilby is one of the best song-writers ever.

  • The audio on this video sucks. Just saying.

  • @philnoll how does it suck? i got my headphones runnin through my Numark mixer and the audio sounds balanced to me.

  • @TheWaynelds I feel like there's too much treble. Compare the sound quality with this one /watch?v=-Q6nKP10j4s which I think sounds better but unfortunately doesn't have the video.

  • Actually thanks to Greg Araki I am involved in this kind of music.

I think they call it shougharz.

  • denk eens aan mij, als je er onder staat...

  • Thumbs up if you heard this in Donnie Darko, when his eyes popped :)

  • @MrJohnkb que cagado justo estaba viendo la pelicula y cuando la escuche la busque y veo este comentario! No mames pinches conecciones universales! D : :D

  • great song this band should have been bigger

  • @79wylie They're legends in Australia. Everywhere else, they're one-hit wonders.

  • @StoogeWatcher Everywhere elses' loss, then. How sad for them.

  • its a shame us aussies were so far away from the rest of the world in the 80s we had/have so much world class talent.. these guys are as good as it gets.

  • Just one of the lovliest songs ever. Thanks for uplodading it.

  • @Albacorewing Magnificent song. Perfection in Pop/Rock sound and lyrics. In my Top 5 ever.

  • who cares ? let's just keep it to ourselves . . . the others don't know what they're missing

  • @BermanTV: Because it was some of the best recorded...... God.

  • I hate bieber and all those people always, but when I hear something like this I want to kick their ass out of this world!

  • We're orbiting a star with deleted hydrogen levels so without so understand there's a fake religious blood sacrifice planned for old (Physical) snake-gods (Rev 19-18) by deluded Illuminati sellouts ruling the world & although you can't stop-it you don't have to give them your soul within their fcucking paradise devil-heaven as reactive-cyanide armour piercing rounds kill ANYTHING that's ET seeking to eat you while a simple cyanide compound in a water pistol in the face up close fcuks them up...

  • love it, lots of memories in my 87 pulsar with t-tops under the milky way

  • I was working night shift at Walmart and was on my 2am lunch break. So I took my lunch and went out in my topless Jeep, listening to the radio. Then this song came on as I looked up to the stars. It was just me and my old Jeep under the milkey way that night.

  • One of the stalwart songs in my life; I may not hear it for a really long time...when I DO hear it, it is such a comfort and fits my soul like a glove. Love it...old friend.

  • echo and the bunnymen ??

  • what can I say, I reserve my comentsi just wanna enjoy it!!!

  • What does, 'Lower the curtain down on Memphis' mean?

  • Comment removed

  • @flightoneleader Your name is flightblabla? And the song lyric in question is about aviation?? ...eehmm...I think I smell a cosmic clue . Now it must be cloud curtain/curtain of cloud. I don't wanna go, so lower the clouds, then my plane can't land. Fly me elsewhere. This was probably written in the mid 80s? '86ish? They looked pretty weathered and wasted in the video, a far cry from the hipsters they were, or Steve was, 5 years earlier. Could it be chemicals as well as aviation, as in flying?

  • @mistersmith6000 Lyrics originated March 19, 1986, - yes, flight was involved. Memphis = a lament. Halley's Comet contributed --- "The actual, original lyric (not the one shown here) was "I lowered the curtain down in Memphis, I lowered the curtain down, alright."

  • H E L L on EARTH!!!

    Total Collapse . com

  • I have loved this song for so long. Man, brings back memories.
