  • Are they business or sexual partners?

  • The revival is on!

Apparently it's not going to be an Opera-like and the songs are going to be re-written.

When I heard that, my excitement was cut down to a nub. The soundtrack was amazing; why the @#$%&! would they want to change it?

  • carrie will return

  • i know the director of the show terry hands, who says that they were getting standing ovations pretty much on every night and the audiences loved it, it was just the fact that it was a taboo subject in the play and it was really the critics that shut it down. the same thing happened with les miserables, the critics slammed it originally but it had already been settled into a theatre by contract so it survived and has become huge; i recon this could have been the case with carrie aswell

  • I'll say this --

It was an interesting, unique attempt to try to take a Stephen King work and make it into a musical...

But it failed. Some books were not meant to be put onstage.

  • Until they figure out a way to make the bucket of blood scene and the prom destruction scene work, and until they figure out a way to completely re-structure and re-arrange the music and the tone, they should never revive it.

Also, they need to re-configure the whole focus of the musical, do they want it to be a gothic horror story about a mom and her daughter, a high-school morality play, or a modern opera about alienation ?

  • I saw "Carrie" on Broadway. It was at best 2 stories trying to exist at the same time on one stage; it never really worked.. and they ALWAYS clashed. It was part "Fame" & part "Carrie", the Film. Ironically, if I recall correctly, Betty Buckley wasn't the original Margaret; it was Barbara Cook.. There was all kinds of hoopla about British Equity v.s. American AEA, & how many of the original English cast could be part of the show. End of story, Betty Buckely was EXQUISITE, as was Lindsey H.

  • Well...now that "Gypsy's" closed Patty Lupone can dig her hands as Margaret White in this so-called revival!

  • Why do they insist on having her hands catch fire? I know it looks "cool" on stage - when the effect works, but it has nothing to do with the story.

  • there's no revival!

there is no plans for a revival!

i doubt there evr will be a revival!

no-one is willing to pay millions of the biggest flop in musical history

i am gutted aswell but i wish people would stop saying there is revivals because there is nothing!

  • @Ryanlaskey

Well i see you left this rather pessimistic comment over a year ago, lol, so I don't know if you'll ever regard my reply... But guess what... It's in the process of being revived... A workshop is going to be held on November 20th 2009 (which at the moment is 4 days from now)

Just thought I'd let you know someone is taking it on

  • @babeandandy yes i now know that but when i left the comment there was no public plans for a revival

  • My point was that you were being extremely pessimistic and saying no one wanted to... Well obviously some people did lol

  • but lets be honest here. The revival IS NOT confirmed, there has only been a reading so dont plan your trip yet. Either way, that chances of there being a revival after the bollocks it turned out to be were pretty slim, so forgive me for my honest comment.

  • seriously but i live in oklahoma so thats a bummer

  • I had the great opportunity to be in the original cast, what an amazing experience, so many stories to tell. eric gilliom

  • Please tell some! If you live in LA I'll come over and tape you!

  • seriously you were in the original cast?

whats yur name caoz my dad was in the original cast as well he was stand-by for Billy Nolan

  • There is such a HUGE fanbase for such a flop show ! Anyone who brought CARRIE back with the right marketing would be genius ! I could see Bernadette Peters playing Margaret.

  • Peters as Margaret White? A vocally taxing role for an actress who frequently has vocal problems? Sure...

  • How is this coming along? I met Debbie Allen tonight and she is very enthusiastic about Carrie and had some great stories to tell. She said it was time to bring it back! I hope you get her for this doc. She really loves the show!

  • I am a HUGE supporter of Carrie the Musical! Bring it back! Please!

  • wow- Thanks for posting this- I was there and yeh- Buckley is right.... the audience booed terribly- however, the standing ovation (from my perspective) wasn't because the production was good- it seemed more like people were so angry they had to stand and shout over the heads of those standing and shouting in front of them- probably the scariest experience I've had in a theater! a lot of the score was amazing- Buckley's voice soared throughout the theater-

  • I am THRILLED there is a chance that this show will be revived; I just hope Betty Buckley returns and (finally) records this show. Having seen the original production twice (once on Mother's Day! then on opening night), I can attest that this was an example of the perfect melding of actor/part (Betty Buckley/Margaret). When the show was stopped after WHEN EVE WAS WEAK, it was not just mesmerizing, but something that said: THEATRE. Live was the only way to experience this sensation!

  • bring carrie bk! i wish i asd been alive 2 ci it but i was born 3 years 2 late goddammit, when i first heard of caqrrie the musical i was like do u mean carrie as in prom queen pigs blood that carrie, that wudnt work on stage bt frm what i seen on you tube it worked relly well! my drama teacher knew linzi and he says she loved doin it but the time wasnt right the theatrical world wasnt ready 4 it.

  • There should be a documentary of this show, but not so much droning on from that guy.

  • Wow this guy is boring

  • lol.

  • What a wonderful idea. This is fascinating. Can't wait to see the finished documentary.

  • I'm so excited for you to be hopefully be getting involved in this! I'll crossing my fingers like crazy for this revival.

  • I have a feeling the revival will happen. That's probably why the rights to the show haven't been released. It's too go a body of work to just let it slip away.

  • @Shanedoll30

A revival is in the works! Not really a revival, it's just going to Off-Broadway later this year or early next year
