  • This movie always made me feel sad about an upcoming future, where the (Genetic?) Elite is living this planet, a planet without an ecological tomorrow. I had the feeling that all my family members and friends had left Earth and that I was left behind unable to follow them. Every single day that passes I see an inclination towards Biopunk and not necessarily Cyberpunk for this century. Gatacca or The Matrix?

  • Ending to eleaphant man

  • this was probably the most poignant moment of cinema ever

  • by far one of the most outstanding movies ever made. i cant help but feel overwhelmed and humbled every time i watch it. its so deep

  • i LOVE ethan hawke in this movie

  • My Biology teacher told us that Dr. Lamar and Antonio Freeman (Vincent's dad) are the same person. Is this true?

  • @Chameleonizer

He/she made a mistake. Check it by yourself in imdbdotcom

  • @Chameleonizer No, the doctor and Vincent's dad are not the same person. In the scene right before Vincent and Anton swim at night, Anton says "Our parents died thinking they outlived you." Therefore, Vincent's dad was already dead and there's no way the doctor could have been his dad.

  • @TheLatterRain Well Mr. Polotaye was wrong then lol

  • @Chameleonizer : Correct.

  • :******(

  • Very moving...

  • I watched this movie in my biology class. Unfortunately, I was probably the only kid in the classroom that actually paid attention to it. It's a very moving film. Awesome music, too.

  • This was an incredibly depressing movie in many ways, and not just the ending.

  • IDK if you guys notice, but the silver medal Gerome was not designed to wear looks as if it were made of gold when he is in the incinerator. He was not designed to get a silver medal or be one step below the podium... but what a way to conclude this movie. Amazing statement the director made at the end of the movie about His life and achievements. Giving Gerome his former glory back! He had to die so that someone greater could take up his place. I can keep going but no space here. Great Movie!

  • eugene did what he did to help vince so when he got back he wouldn't have issues with the police or anyone else he gave his life so that vince could really live he told him before he left for the rocket that he had 2 life time supplys of the things he would need when he got back home

  • @halosapien1 Just like a seed has to die so that a beautiful tree can grow. Gerome died so that something beautiful would take over his place and that was Vincent's dream. Remember when Gerome said "I only lent you my body you lent me your dream." The lock of hair represents the belief that owning it gives one the power over that individual. He willingly gave his life! Such act could only bring him back to where he was supposed to be, in 1st place by receiving the golden metal in the incinerator

  • EVERY ATOM IN OUR BODIES WAS ONCE PART OF A STAR

    LOVE THE THOUGHT OF THAT

Its very sad to say ive not seen this film came across this because i love M Nymans music

  • what can i say..

    think michael nyman is GOD

  • I was really close to crying when watching this...long live mr. nyman and human spirit:-)

  • I read the comments of you all and I can´t believe you people share exactly the same feeling I feel about this movie.

  • Only the ending to The Elephant Man has so affected me in how the spirit of us all is more then the small box the things of the world constrain us to. The walls of this earth cannot truly bind the expanse of our imagination.

  • Why'd Jerome have to die? :(

  • Why can't i stop crying?

  • yet, i also like A.I with Jude law : it's different but still , it's sci-FI ... when i look at

all the robots in Japan ... all the attempts at cloning : i find the world scary

  • i can totally relate to the film especially the ending, and the swim back part. i'm not the extreme type of person to the extent of not thinking about the return (swim back).

There are times when i do behave dangerously (since i'm impulsive ) putting fear and reluctance aside especially when i had to fight back. i agree : the film makes me stronger , and let me think "fuck off haters" when envious pple just try to bring me down.

  • Wahnsinn! Was für eine Musik! Was für ein Film!!! Absolut spitze!

  • IT IS THE SONG, THAT MAKES THE ENDING SO POWERFUL. AWESOME MOVIE

  • @luislehder for me, its not only the song, but overall, theirs more into it!! its one of my favorite, i cant explain how i feel, its just that everything in this movie inspires me, and makes me stronger. and i agree the music is so damn powerful! this is one of my very very favorite movie of all time. and i really love these soundtrack as well

  • I never saved anything for the swim back.

  • Gattaca and Contact are 2 of my favourite movies ever.

  • One of the best science fiction movie I ever saw. Without much of today's CGI and other special effects, this movie touches to the soul and mind while uplifting the human spirit and self-determination.

  • This song is so good, I decided to remix it into a dance/house track, if anyone wants to hear it let me know, if not, I'll hush up... I probably ruined it :(

  • I love this movie, it is so moving and emotional. It has great morals...it is just beautiful. I cry every time I see the ending, Jerome is just such a wonderful man, and it was sad to see him die, to see him dislike himself because even perfection is not perfect, which is one of many things this movie shows.

  • One of the best movies of the last 20 years. Way too few of this quality are even made these days. Great message and insight into trends in bio science and human social interaction.

  • i saw this movie in school and me and ma bff were soo into and amazed by it ...it really is an AMAZING movie and the ending made us cry ...we will never see another movie like this in any of years to come

  • I cried the first time I saw this.. :L

  • amazing film. Totally amazing

  • Powerfully moving. The music is sublime.

  • I love this movie. I've seen it more than once but every single time - I'd find myself tearing up during this scene. It was just beautifully done. The music, the acting, the voice over (script) awesome

  • I hate that Eugene kills himself

  • One of my favorit movies.

Not only because of the topics in the movie like "never give up on your dream" or the quite interesting way of seeing god and the fate in ones life. its also about finding out what place you have in this world and what is it what makes you the person you are.

No man and no "handicap" can diside who you are, what you are capable of and what is your limit.

In a very abstract way it have a lot in common with Fight Club, don't you think? ^,^

  • This movie wasn't about spaceships. It isn't "science fiction" in the sense most people associate with the term. The story so happens to have elements of science and fiction but they weren't trying to tell a space drama. If you watched this movie and all you got out of it was a nitpick about the implausibility of going into space without proper gear you missed the whole point of the movie all together. In that case you should stick to things that easier to understand... like Star Wars.

  • this movie was simply amazing. i think its worth waaay more attention then it got.

  • Well Im just saying, you can't go into space without a space suit. You would die before you even leave the Earths ionosphere. Even if the craft had artificial gravity and oxygen, the radiation alone will kill you in minutes. Yes, im very anal about detail.

  • I agree with you about the details. Pressure suits are needed, of course. But this moment in the movie is not literally about a liftoff of a rocket. It's just a symbolical representation of getting where the main character wanted to get in life.

  • This movie takes place in an unspecified "future" where genetic modification is the norm and long-term, manned space flights depart several times a week. Is it really such a leap of logic to assume that they've devised a means of effectively shielding their spacecraft against such radiation?

  • @Itsonlygargle there going to mofo titan and they sitll dont know whats underneath it? ahahhaha they can do genetic makeups and spacecraft to shield againts radiation but cant get a telescope to pierce into titan

  • Why are the astronauts in suits?

  • love the movie. inspring..

  • this movie shows humans cannot being limited to their dreams

    do the impossible

  • This movie is one of my all-time favorite too but I can't see how there could be a sequel or what could possibly justify one, as far as the story is concerned. Sometimes, things are best left as they are in order to preserve all their beauty.

  • a wonderful movie, a wonderful actors;...

  • life ... it really hurts. the departure by michael nyman takes my breath away.

  • i think alike.

no movie ever touched me that deeply and inflicted such a willingness to rise and grow.

  • It is one of the all time greats. There will never be another movie which will ever replace this. Simply outstanding, in more then one way.

  • agreed! I get a funny feeling when i watch it....it's very moving.

  • How can you turn on a furnace from the inside though...

  • what's the name of the music :D

  • the departure - michael nyman

  • Jerom was a very interesting character to say the least, the whole movie was a life changing experience.

  • Captain Obvious here but the intensity of this closing scene the coda if you like loses some of its potency due to lack of context, for those of us whom have "scene" it can say this applies to most mediums or disciplines namely music where the crescendo is not truly appreciated without the whole. Synergy is the word i'm looking for. i find the symmetry in each character's behaviour very interesting

  • "There is no gene for the human spirit." Love that line.

  • increible bonita cancion y grandisima pelicula

  • Nunca e oido una cancion tan bonita como esta. ningunas palabras pueden describir el sentido que te de esta ultima escena.

    la escena final<33333333

  • I love the clip and the music...totally makes it.

  • you see that jude laws character still was proud of his silver medal

  • yeah that was one of the big elements of this whole scene, when the real vincent puts on that silver medal you see him coming to peace with the fact that he was 2nd place.

  • you mean the real Gerome Morrow, Vincent is his alias while the real vincent is being gerome

  • ah yea ur rite, my bad.

  • wow.. amo este final.. es fastantico : ) .. exelente pelicula .. y el sonido es hermoso , perfect.

  • Jajajaja. Nohelys, no sabía que también te gustaba esta película.

  • i love this movie

  • lov the vid/mis. good job

  • this is by far the most perfect ending in. ive seen many many films and this is ranked into my top five. the ending quote is even more spectacular. i honest believe in that

  • In a future " not too far " the World is ordered by genetic engineering, that divides human beings into valid (conceived in a test tube with DNA manipulated) and void (the other, born with the old system), regarded as pariahs. Wow ! This a very interesting movie. Thats the story of this " New World " as to Huxley and aseptic so totalitarian, so soft in camouflaged violence of power, built with a background bizarre and original.

  • G A T T A C A

GreAT movie, GreAT sTory, GreAT Theme, GreAT ACTors, GreAT musiC....

  • GATTACA IS THE MOVIE OF MY WHOLE LIFE,

tHANK YOU, It shows you how life is hard and so beautiful, there is no word to explain it, pictures and emotions speak more than words.

Sometimes, a man can make a Movie, that is 200 % perfect, that's to muche, that's why you cry,you breath as the actors breath, All my life I ill be marked by this thing.

  • After I saw it, I was another man probably 4 ever. No need to see other movies, this one is just what make human life so wonderful or so bad, that's what life is really, no lies, no super power, no bad scenes to remove.

Only The TRUE, the Only One.

I thank my english teacher to prent me this, thk u th eman from who this story start. It should be a great man.

  • The Song, is just perfect , only the song could tell you the story, it doesn't need any word, you listen it and you cry, u see it and you cry again and each time u see it, u will cry, impossible to get bored, no way, it's only genius, pure Human Genius in his Pure Form.

Perfection of mankind in it's pure form are the words.

  • I love this movie, and I love the Fountain. Those two movies made me. I am a product of them

  • i agree with you- for ever! this is the greatest movie ever! thanks for sharing your words! i feel just the same! i carry this movie in my heart, every second, until one day i can be one with the stars. greetings from germany- jose

  • In my opinion, this is the best movie because when u see it, you forget what u are, you are IN the film, actors are talking about You, MANKIND, Thats is the best because it's not a movie, it's more than a piece of art, It helps mankind asking good questions and it help ANY HUMAN to travel in a world that you can understand even if it's not real, it s your world.

  • This scene and this music always makes me want to cry *sniffles*

  • one of the most beautiful films ever...

  • This music is always in my head

  • Eugene!!!! I love you!

  • probably the best scene in the movie, i think.

...and i remembered Jerome saying "i only lend you my body, me your dream"

    :'(

  • jude law!!!

  • :'(

  • i love this movie i still watch it over and over. it never gets old. but i still don't get it. why in the hell jorome killed himself? does anyone know why?

  • Jerome killed himslef so that Vincent could live his life as Jerome Morrow without any problems of someone finding out the secret. That's why in a previous scene you can see all the samples Jerome made for Vincent. Or this is what I understood.

  • Earlier in the film, Vincent refers to Jerome as 'facing the burden of perfection' which also explains the silver medal he wears when hes about to kill himself. In the end, he still couldn't come to terms with being second best.

    Great movie.

  • I actually thought Jerome looked quite proud when he was wearing the medal otherwise why would he wear it? He was basically just sick of his life. It wasn't going anywhere.

  • I feel like the silver medal turning into gold in the flames is remarkable. definitely shows the dichotomy of the two characters

  • yeah I thats the imagery that they were going for.

  • He was in the wheelchair because of a failed suicide attempt, which most probably came about due to unforeseen depression about being second best in a society where perfection is encouraged in all forms ('I wasn't drunk you know, when I stepped in front of that car. I guess I couldn't even do that right'). Part of the irony the film plays on is that even engineered beings aren't 'perfect' and may end up worse off out of a desire to feel so.

  • (continued from my first comment) - The way I see it though, is that Jerome (Eugene) sees the fraud with Vincent as a way to achieve something big with his life - being one of the prime people selected for a new space mission is no mean feat, especially not in the world of Gatacca. With that achieved, he can finish what his attempted suicide started and finally feels fully proud of his accomplisments. Notice how the silver medal looks gold in the flames?

  • whoa that acually makes alot of sense and looking at it from that point of veiw makes me see another message they tryed to get across...whoa

  • Comment removed

  • That's a pretty cool take on it - I saw the suicide as a kind of 'merging' of Vincent & Eugene; from the moment of departure, there is just 1 identity, built from Eugene's genetic passport and imperfections with Vincent's dreams and passion.

  • ye thats what i thought i just cuudnt put it into words

  • i must cry when i see this.........just amazing

  • HERMOSO

  • This movie is soo inspiring!

  • The ending makes me so sad, it's really bitter sweet.but I love this movie.

  • I love this movie.

But it makes my heart hurt.

Pure genius, the soundtrack. Michael Nyman is truly gifted.

  • I really understand what you mean, I just can't wait to go home this winter and watch this with my whole family.

    Peace!!

  • Melhor filme do mundo.

    Best Movie in the world.
