The Backflip is getting an update to 2.1 on Nov 9, 2010. Might want to check your screen cause mine works fine... you properly have to get used to it. you know that many people think that the buttons still function when you got the bottons on the back.
@takzo0 It feels good but I don't notice the keyboard. Even when I make a call. I tend to type using the keyboard and not the screen keyboard. I hacked my Backflip because I hate MotoBlur and it runs faster and you can download and install apps not in the Market. Although it does void your warranty. The its an okey phone, but there is better phones out there.

Wow u recorded a vid of the backflip using the iphone4's camera..thats impressive. Ive noticed that the backflip's processer is a little on the slow and choppy side, is it bcuz there are so many widgets on the homescreen that it makes everything run slower? Are u able to change that by removing some of the widgets of the homescreen or will it still run that slow no matter how many widgets u have on the home screen?

But i do want a backup/ extra phone im thinking about this one cause I still want a good smart phone with a keyboard and all the other att phones without a contract are super expensive, but this one no contract on ebay is pretty cheap. I hope I can get rid of that trashy motoblur thats super slow and laggy and bleh I would rather have plain android maybe I can download launched pro or something idk..
@senorseis66 well i use it for a good internet browser and music mainly, it has good speakers. android phone, a lot of apps are convenient to me like last fm and other good stuff in the market and some third party apps. i rooted mine
It's just slow because of the overload of running projects. MotoBLUR is a very sluggish and sapping system.
I was able to sap most of it and not have my processor on overdrive, making navigation extremely fast. Removing the Yahoo! search widget and replacing it with Google is very useful also. With a routine power cycle every three/four days, you'll be fine.
@Gyws13 don't get the backflip. if you want speed, a big screen, and a customizable interface get the galaxy s. if you want lots of apps, a great camera and a sharp screen get the iphone
I like my backflip...an update was released last week that helps screen respone and some bugs known on the backflip. BTW look around I got my phone 4 months ago FREE!
I like this phone. It's time to upgrade my contract and I don't like the iphone because of many restrictions. There should be a firmware update for the backflip now that improves many aspects of the phone including overall performance and battery life. Also, with the Android 2.1 update, sometime this year, you will have most features found on other android phones. The problem is ATT. They completely restricted the phone and added their own crapware. Still, a very unique devce.
How is this a commercial! Even if chris did get payed to do this he was hardly lying through his teeth raving about rubbish features (like allot of paid reviewers do) He pointed out its flaws! and he never said he was going to use this phone to replace his iphone. He dosent like andriod, its obvious. So grow up and stop trolling.
Umm this phone doesn't cost a penny, and he knows perfectly well it doesn't too. He said you'll have to sign up for a special plan, but he didn't say one thing, the plan will end up costing you 500 dollars extra. Wow why did you have to try to fool people into buying something that they think costs a penny?
Motorola should really give up designing mobile devices. It's plain ugly and the Android interface is even more so. I'll be sticking with my Windows/Android HTC Touch Pro 2 for a long time. :-)
Dont listen to people who think your advertising, there mostly just iphone fanboys since when you talk about your iphone they dont care but when you talk about something such as android they freak out. Android is an amazing operating system, and with the 40+ android phones on the market I believe they are all good and most are better then the iphone in my opinion in a lot of ways. And chris you should get your self a HTC EVO 4G! experience a REAL smartphone instead of always useing an iphone 4.

Enjoy your censored Android experience Chris. The backflip is a piece of crap. AT&T removed the Unknown Sources option and so you cannot load apps from outside the android market. Proof? Just google motorola backflip and click the pcworld article entitled 'Motorola Backflip on AT&T: Not the Full Android Experience'
I know you're entitled to your opinion. So am I, and I say phone reviews aren't for you. Leave it to the people that devote their time to this sort of stuff. This video seems like something that was half-assed and meant to just push people to tagjag for a few bucks. Not saying that's why you did this but it is the impression I got from this video. Also, CPU speed, screen resolution, software version is a lot geekier than what social site the device connects to, IMO. harsh but honest feedback.

I've never posted but after watching this video, I had to. First of all, EVERYTHING on that phone including the MOTO Blurr is a duplicate of other Droid phones. My HTC Aria which is also on AT&T has the exact same features and it's touch screen is much more responsive. Seeing Mr.Perillo review this phone seems painful as the phone really does actually suck. It's a laggy mess. The hardware on the phone is horrible and can't run the Android OS properly.
@lockergnome Chris, I have a suggestion: you can make a video showing the installation of Ubuntu 10.04 on your NETBook, what do you think? I've never seen you using that Netbook. You already have the Mac and Windows, just missing the Ubuntu to complete the "hall of the best Operating Systems".

YouTube is a hobby for most but for YouTube PARTNERS like chris pirillo they get paid to make the video and if someone else is going to pay him to speak positively about something it seems like a no brainer. It isn't selling out because he is still doing what he enjoys doing and being paid for it

This is because by law he is required to say if they are sponsoring the video, and from the may Chris Pirillo videos I have seen he is quite good at mentioning when they have sponsored the video or sent him the device.

@larskbragdon The Evo 4G has WAY too many problems with it to be the best phone alive. Maybe if you could get a unlimited extension cord so you could have it plugged in everywhere you go, then it might be ok. I'm not an Android hater either. The Droid X looks awesome and is much nicer looking than that brick of a phone called the EVO.
@sean1256 ughh the evo has been getting beter and beter. the battery life has nearly trippled for me since i installed the 1.47.651.1 ota update and it lasts almost a day and a half with a decent amount of use. now the droid x on the other hand is prolly gonna blow this phone out of the water with the new moto blur i like it alot but i have sprint and att so o well.

I would say that backlash from the EVO video and possible un-subscription rate was a wakeup for him. HOWEVER, I do think this is an honest and simple review of a device. I read an article about this phone and I was positively surprised that Chris had a review which I consider was very interesting. Now that doesn't mean I'm buying anything (nothing will take me away from my HTC Desire :P).

Chris' EVO video did have a few decent points that Google (note, not HTC) should work on, but I found that several were inspired due to lack of familiarisation with the Android system. An HTC fanboy would have the same issues if trying an iPhone for the first time. It's the legendary MAC/AnyOtherOS battle. So not going there...

really awesome product and great review. i'm with you chris. thats the kind of device i want. all of my accounts avalable with me all the time and at a touch of a single button (well, not really a button i guess). the only downside is the lack or responsiveness of the screen, but for a penny, who can complain. :P

I know you're entitled to your opinion. So am I, and I say phone reviews aren't for you. Leave it to the people that devote their time to this sort of stuff. This video seems like something that was half-assed and meant to just push people to tagjag for a few bucks. Not saying that's why you did this but it is the impression I got from this video. Also, CPU speed, screen resolution, software version is a lot geekier than what social site the device connects to, IMO. harsh but honest feedback.

I've never posted but after watching this video, I had to. First of all, EVERYTHING on that phone including the MOTO Blurr is a duplicate of other Droid phones. My HTC Aria which is also on AT&T has the exact same features and it's touch screen is much more responsive. Seeing Mr.Perillo review this phone seems painful as the phone really does actually suck. It's a laggy mess. The hardware on the phone is horrible and can't run the Android OS properly.

I hate how people constantly call all YouTube partners sell outs if they happen to promote something. I don't see it as selling it this is how they make money. If you are doing a car wash and someone is paying you and you are offered more money to do more detail and make it look better are you a sell out ?

YouTube is a hobby for most but for YouTube PARTNERS like chris pirillo they get paid to make the video and if someone else is going to pay him to speak positively about something it seems like a no brainer. It isn't selling out because he is still doing what he enjoys doing and being paid for it

@haavar90 he never says they pay him or that they are sponsoring the video therefore by law they aren't. This is because by law he is required to say if they are sponsoring the video, and from the may Chris Pirillo videos I have seen he is quite good at mentioning when they have sponsored the video or sent him the device.

@larskbragdon The Evo 4G has WAY too many problems with it to be the best phone alive. Maybe if you could get a unlimited extension cord so you could have it plugged in everywhere you go, then it might be ok. I'm not an Android hater either. The Droid X looks awesome and is much nicer looking than that brick of a phone called the EVO.

@sean1256 ughh the evo has been getting beter and beter. the battery life has nearly trippled for me since i installed the 1.47.651.1 ota update and it lasts almost a day and a half with a decent amount of use. now the droid x on the other hand is prolly gonna blow this phone out of the water with the new moto blur i like it alot but i have sprint and att so o well.

I would say that backlash from the EVO video and possible un-subscription rate was a wakeup for him. HOWEVER, I do think this is an honest and simple review of a device. I read an article about this phone and I was positively surprised that Chris had a review which I consider was very interesting. Now that doesn't mean I'm buying anything (nothing will take me away from my HTC Desire :P).

@sean1256 It's sad yes, but then again, critisise any product owned by a fan and see what kinda response you get.
Chris' EVO video did have a few decent points that Google (note, not HTC) should work on, but I found that several were inspired due to lack of familiarisation with the Android system. An HTC fanboy would have the same issues if trying an iPhone for the first time. It's the legendary MAC/AnyOtherOS battle. So not going there...
But yeah, you're right about the ridiculous part.

@haavar90 Sure, I get you and I agree to some part. But you see, years of infomercials and sneaky commercial blogging on products has made me semi-immune to those words; I just wanted to know specs, features, etc...
I suppose what I'm saying is that I still enjoy Chris' vids but there's some serious "back to basics" needed if he wants to keep a big part of his subscribers. I probably wouldn't un-sub but I can see why many would.

If you can't see past that, ignore what he says here and there if you don't find it interesting or not your cup of tea, then, try doing it better yourself. Who knows, I might be posting comments on your (plural) videos sometime in the future...!

BUT what i think is wrong is if Motorola would have payed Chris to promote the device. And as you might know as a viewer of his videos, he never tells you to buy it he just sais what he thinks of the device and then sais what its good for.
