The method passed down through my family only flipped them once. A full 180 degree flip and that was it, done all the way around and round. All the videos I've seen so far flip them in stages, I can see benefits if you are stuffing them, but we didn't, just the sugar coating and toppings.

when making "filled" aebleskiver, when is the best time to put in the filling? I've been making these for about 3 years now, and when I make filled ones I can't seem to make them close all the way. They still taste amazing but sometimes they look like little "pacman". Any suggestions?
Amazon is a great source. Also, Williams Sonoma. They're more expensive, unfortunately, but they also have a selection of cook books just on Aebleskivers (for breakfast, desserts, and even savory snacks!).
it's not true!! It's not danish pancakes. Danish pancakes are like american pancakes, but just bigger(diameter) and thinner. Aebleskiver is like japanese Takoyaki !!
Originally those had apple wedges in the centre, often with cinnamon.
(I like to cook the apple wedges a little with sugar and cinnamon before I slip them into the Æbleskiver just before I close them up and turn them upside down.
It's a crying shame to cover them in jam though.
I always serve them with different types of jam, and let my guests choose for themselves. The sugar sprinkling is mandatory though. ;O)

i just noticed he was actually speaking english at 51 seconds. =) my grandma had a strong danish accent and sometimes i didn't realize she was speaking english either... =)

Over the years though, the recipe stayed the same but the technique was somehow lost to our younger generation. I had no idea I was doing them wrong till I saw this video. I made them on New Years day this year and was so excited at how they turned out, I took pictures...hehe. My sister was excited to see the video as well...thank you. BTW, they are way better than a pancake
haha just read that Trader Joe’s sells "danish pancakes" and on the back of the packet its says that danish pancakes is a conventional breakfast in denmark.. NOT.. its only at christmas most ppl eat this..

Jophie12: Don't be so sure that the pan design was stolen from the Japanese. This is a treat that goes over 400 years back in Denmark. This is a peasant treat - and to assume that the pan is a Japanese design, some Dane should have brought this thing back to Denmark maybe 500 years ago. (Not a lot of Danes went to Japan 500 years ago)
I've had my pan forever, but never was sure HOW to make them. Now I will use it. Thank you for this informational video. Before long, I will look like an Aebleskiver.

Actually there is a meaning with the name.
Æbleskiver= Æble (apple) skiver (slices)

it's called æbleskive, and in pluralis it's æbleskiver.
a lot of people adds the "s" form the english laungage on top of the danish "r" , which makes it sound really funny ^^
