  • shes just blupring it all out, asians always talk to fast, take it slow, i know she is young, i've took in about 705 of what she was saying.

  • Thanks Adora. You're a great example of a brilliant public speaker.

  • great! ...

  • This child is positively insufferable. My God.

  • I know this is terrible.. but she's never going to get laid when she grows up

  • @Kaylin011 LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Noam Chomsky 02:14 bottom of screen FTW !

  • Why is everyone getting so angry? I'm entitled to an opinion. I didn't like it. If you did, that's fine.

  • this is such stupid evidence

  • damn commie

  • everything can be free.. you just need to change the system a little bit. and forget about banks and bailouts, lawyers and laws.... presidents and false democracyes.

  • She just sounds waay too rehearsed, it doesn't work for me..

  • @crumbsinhisjacketses Any ways she is a kid. Tell me how many childre do THIS. I am a college dude and I will panic to be in her position right there. She published her book at age seven. And if she did rehearsed it does not matter she is still smart.

  • @locomoco2012 This is more about confidence than intelligence, and most kids I know are confident. I'm not denying that she's clever, obviously she is, but as far as public speaking goes, I didn't like it..

  • @crumbsinhisjacketses if you've got so much to complain about why dont you give a speech and show how it's done then? what's stopping you from doing that?

  • @dhhoop Nothing..that's probably why I make a lot of speeches.

  • @crumbsinhisjacketses walk your talk! dont just claim u make speeches. besides, even if you did see faults in her (as everyone is entitled to their opinions) you could have given constructive criticisms. you watch inspiring videos like Tedtalks but learn to learn from them too!

  • @crumbsinhisjacketses

bullshit you make speeches. get a life. i criticize your stupid comments and the way you waste your time on here. as far as youtube comments i didn't like it. she didnt make the speech so you could make a stupid comment about how it isn't good public speaking. she's a writer at her age. she's just asking you to listen, but you're too busy proving her point about adults disregarding children. i'm done with you.

  • She's so mature! I love her.

  • Well, she is for sure smart and self-confident. However, it is abvious that she has been trained a lot by professionals. Besides, is it a coincidence that she mentioned Anna Frank and forgot about the 1000s of Palestinian children that are not only inspiring but they are "teaching the entire world ...life!". I'm sure if you bring a Palestinian child like Ahmad (watch?v=BEzUbRBWakE&list) he will represent maturity which he was to go through.

  • Part of being smart is not pushing parts of your audience away.

  • old and senile...hahah

  • Not that great.

    Probably pushed by parents :x

  • She's parrotting things her parents and teachers feed her. This is the same kind of mind-control you'd find on a Mormon Polygamist ranch

  • @TheArboarba Just because she's smart she has to be parroting. Obviously. That's the only logical, mature way to comprehend her intellect, by her age. Anything else is just... childish.

  • @TheArboarba Wow way to bring religion into this... Oh and by the way she's been home schooled so she's not just parenting what her elders are telling her. She just has a very bright mind and CHOOSES to read history books and to watch the news and this is her opinion of what she's seen and heard

  • How old is this kid?

  • Its a shame she's so brilliant yet so brainwashed at the same time. Don't believe me? See: s7G4ANq6Qno

She is just a partisan nut thanks to her parents and teachers union. Such a shame..

  • So George W Bush was a bad decision but Obama was not? Brainwashed child needs to learn not to alienate her audience.

  • me podrian decir si esta este video subtitulado en español? gracias

  • Don't you hate when they start growing up thinking they know shit?

  • @luckyamo15 Don't you hate when you start growing down thinking you know shit?

  • I go to school with Adora through Washington Virtual Acedemy and through my observations I have conclude that Adora is a very smart 13 year old. BUT NOT A GENIUS. She is a very well spoken and an incredible writer, but not more. I have personally had discussions with her and a lot of her ideas are out there, especially her proposed school reform plans. She is very generous with her money and I respect her for that, but she is also extremely condescending to her peers.

  • I see the first asian-american woman president.

  • @elRampage well I see a lesbian

  • Of course she's Asian...

  • Children become adults.

  • 102 people are butt hurt adults with no ounce of kinetics thought.

  • This was written by an adult

  • @Yaylin2

    you jelly?

  • That kid is smarter than everyone in that room?

  • @maliwahtallhei i meant to put an ! there

  • HAHAHAthis is rediculous sorry girl but about 5% of us kids are smart enough to actually do anything

we're just going to repeat our selves over and over in certain areas and barely advance so whatever

  • i didnt like her...she seems sermonizing...huh~~

  • She is way to smart for her age man :O

  • @TrollNamedSlickBack she was taught by an adult. And rehearsed thousands of times.

  • Finally, someone to make me feel better about my childhood. People didn't ever trust me to make my own decisions, and what resulted was a lot of mistakes I now I have to repair. This was a beautiful TEDtalk.

  • Ann Frank- world hide and seek champion 1940-1945.

  • Im too stupid to be like her xD THUMBS UP IF YOU CERTAINLY AGREE! :D

  • Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She is amazing! I'm rather jealous I didn't see these points when I was her age :/ Thanks Adora!

  • All I can say is "wow"

  • I wish every child was like her...wait, wait, wait!! She's not a child!

  • @waveofwisdom Or perhaps, you learned the fact that we shouldn't become adults? When you think about it!

  • 1:57 she says ''ass'' and look what i see...

  • shes kinda hot

  • She's a 12 year old, with the maturity of a 50 year old, and the spirit of a....12 year old.

  • Wow, just goes to show what our children are capable of when we raise them in an intellectual environment and give them the support they need to succeed in their endeavors.

  • Awesome speech!

  • Yes!!

  • This was awesome! One of the best talks on TED and she's only ten or so?!

  • @Bfavrestarr415 She's 13, 12 in that speech.

  • I couldn't agree more. I believe children have natural wisdom that adults seem to leave behind as they grow. Innocence is the deepest of all wisdom (: People need to grow up and mature, but at the same time keep their child-likeness, not childish-ness.

  • What's more, I show Alice how to translate words to words, sentences to sentences, how to contribute into the TED community. She is very eager to make the translated works done by herself. We are so proud to participate in TED community truly, madly, deeply. We wish we can enjoy more open dialogues and take actions with many TED kids or TEDED new projects online, in real time sharing with Web 2.0 and so on. Live long, happily and prosper.

  • There is an age gap between me and my youngest sister Alice, but in TEDxkids talks, especially this one: Adora Svitak: What adults can learn from kids. We share the same language, we laugh, we talk more and deep.

  • I normally just click a video and listen to the audio while I do other things. When I changed back tabs I almost crapped my pants when I realized she was so young and is able to articulate herself like this.

  • My favorite point she makes in this video is when she mentioned when adults/teachers have low expectations of children, they will sink to them... Amazing! Where would we be if we had unlimited expectations of our kids?(with added encouragement, not forcible dominion) One of the best lessons of the year/decade for me. She's amazing!

  • LOL. Des Lynam lookalike at 7:05 is not amused.

  • @BravoT LOL I noticed that too.

  • Wow! I love Adora! She is my facebook friend, hehe. She is from my hometown, and a huge inspiration! Smart girl.

  • kids, you have no idea how much we grown ups want to go back to those childhood days... to be foolish again, to be silly again, to do mistakes and not be taken a trial if you do... is it now like grass is greener on the other side?

  • @shibinkidd your still alive. now focus all your attention to supporting the kids and become one along the way

  • This girl is the ultimate spokes...girl? For everything I wished I was able to say when I was young. I wouldn't be able to say such things now without losing credibility. That said, her precociousness appears to know no limits and she delivers above and beyond. I fell in love after a minute. She may come across as pompous or egocentric and some specifics may be exaggerated but I just take that with a pinch of salt because the delivery is less important than the message.

  • Child prodigy wants more influence for children. I think it's possible that she over-estimates children on account of her own experience.

  • condescending tone.

  • 3:52 made me ROTFLOL!

  • it's bush's fault...liberal brainwashing...of adults and kids...continues...

  • if I just saw this video without knowing anything before this, I really would think shes a grown up.

  • argh...i'm impressed yet jealous at the same time .__. the good thing is, she's asian! i think.

  • @Theclaidheamhmor Yea I got that from watching this video, I just got a vibe where I immediately grew to dislike her. That and she sounds like she's talking alot of bs, she sounds like an Arts student.

  • @daymyth Yes, she claims to be a genuis, or a prodigy, but she will not release an IQ test score. I think she is just a good speaker, she can make her ideas sound great just by her presentation. And you are right, you would not like her. She is very opinionated and is not afraid to spew her opinion everywhere even if it is wrong.

  • she rockz! :D

  • Very astute observations from someone half my age lol

"Like my wish that no one went hungry and that everything were free... kinda utopia"

We have the technology and feasibility to create an access abundance now. I don't think that's a utopian stance. It's more pragmatic and just the right thing to do!

There's no such thing as a utopia anyway.... there will always be problems to tackle.

  • scripted or not...very good.

  • indego child, the future of humanity. brought here because of the date that marks peace, 2012

  • Tis a poor student that does not surpass his or HER teacher.

Not only does she surpass, but Im thinkin she left a smoke trail.

  • wow, she's read alot of bookslol

  • oh yeah that didnt make my 16 year old procrastinating self feel bad at all...

  • OMG she's FUCKING old

  • Nice Dilevery!!!!!

  • This girl is like 8 years old, she is going to be really fucking smart.

  • couldn't listen to her for like 5 minute. then i ate my pride. still chewing on it.

  • For minute I thought I was a high achiever, but this girl inspired me toward greater heights!

    I Thank You!

  • Mac N Cheese for dinner every night!

  • I think I love her.

  • @snakesareSCARY ur damn freaky

  • @glitterland18 ♥ aww.

  • hey there is no talking that way on this show my school did this and if u want to talk that way go to a nother site !!! and im not kiddin u bettr bak off this was made my school that goes to enjoylifeingeneral and tony23zzz

  • std.....overated

  • std

  • age makes a huge difference. but that doesn't change the fact that adora put out some good points.

  • cool i feel like a dumbass now lol

  • Human families what did she say?? Couldnt understand it, somebody help me?

  • @hede88 "problems should not be the heirloom of the human families". An heirloom is something, usually an object like a ring, jade, or necklace that your mother will give to you, and you will give to your daughter and so on. She was stating that problems shouldn't be an heirloom for their human children, adults should solve as many problems as they can and the next generation will keep solving it until theres none. What she's preaching is basically Jesus shit. I think shes the messiah LOL

  • I love it when kids put adults in the right place. And im a parent so see the other side of this stuff. My 5 year old girl who see's the world with rose coloured glasses, so its all sweet and pretty. Im not looking forward to her seeing the real world.

Respect to this girl for having the guts to get up and do this. And at TED too.

  • @DreamsCatcher101 Is it really gonna be that bad when your daughter sees the real world? I wasn't hit too hard; instead of being significantly hurt by it, it helped me grow up better, even in dark times.

  • G.W.Bush = childish ?

Well thats on the list, and its a long list.

  • 6:56 I totally LOL. She is totally right!!! It may sound cruel, but its the truth. Each one of us, are making own merits on our life. And a way to improve is to realize that we are kids to we need to have faith in our selves so that we can have faith in the others, including our own kids. Having faith, believing as a kid does, is the only way to make a better future.

  • @eloisaanguiano Having faith is the worst idea ever, history clearly already points this out....

  • @daymyth The point is not other's faith. The point is not religious faith. The point is your own faith for your own motivations. Faith in your own nature. The kind of faith that u are refering to, is the one people put outside of them selves. If you have faith in your self, it will be easier to have faith in others, or even to start... trust them. But yeah. Because an individuals faith is a powerful force it can be used to mess things up in wrong hands.

  • @eloisaanguiano Faith is belief without evidence, without justification. That is a bad thing no matter what it is referring to. Believing in yourself and believing in what you can do is different to having faith in yourself. Faith is a dirty world. You should always know your limits, so you can break them but not be so arrogant as to believe you can do something outside of what you are capable.

  • @daymyth Yeah your right. Its a matter of balance, between been arrogant and putting too much limits on you, but still, each one of us know, when to take the risk of going to that other corner, if you wish too, if you have a bit of suspect that its posible. Yeah the word FAITH its stained through history, they spoiled it. But still for me, is a synonymous of believe. The point is. Know your self potencial and limits. if i know how to believe in me, it will be easier to reflect this on others.

  • @eloisaanguiano But yeah! What matters TO ME are my own motivations.

  • @eloisaanguiano i think you should just say "believe in yourself" instead then. Faith is a type of belief and a bad one. It's just important when using words to communicate what you mean rather than assume everyone knows what you mean. Otherwise you get arguments like this which really just don't need to occur because in essence I agree with what you say, you just said it badly.

  • anazing

  • Summary = I'm better than you, old people! But please continue to work to feed me, clothe me, and provide me the leisure time to think about how much better than you I am. Thank you.

  • @Anathoniel shut up, kid.

  • @iarodify jealous?

  • @DreamsCatcher101 jealous, of what? it was a reply for a person, not a comment of the video. DUH

  • @Anathoniel What an ignorant and arrogant conclusion you just drew there mate.. I wish you would grow down :)

  • When I was 20 - more kid than adult - I did great things becasue of the no boundries thinking.. One thing I have not changed - learning from others....

  • I wouldn't want him to do it even to win WW2 because at that age with little responsibility or experience they would little know the repercussions of her actions and the extent of them.

  • The thing is children really have no responsibilities and therefore are not apt to running the world at all. There will always be exceptions but brave soldiers on the WW2 front, the people like Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks who gained rights for an entire group of people, or the people that change the world like Issac Newton, one of the smartest men ever to live, took years to develop their theories and such. Even if Einstein had the brainpower to create the atomic bomb at age 12

  • Why her blog website doesn't give RSS feed?

  • doesn't she sort of sound like Sarah Palin?

  • @MikeSaurus yeah she does kinda sound like her but I bet she is much smarter!

  • Prezi!

  • this must be one of the most important video ted has ever put on GO GIRL nice put! kids are so pure and true that's what this world needs im from the Netherlands and i will help all children in the world becoming as important as older people. We are THE BEST PERFECTION DOES NOT EXIST BUT WE KIDS DO ! Lets start child banking lets create new monopoli money to play fair and true in whole the world

  • Sooo... whats the word?...ELOQUENT:) that wz my speeling word! yay!

  • She's probably an annoying, snobby bitch.

  • the truth is she does sound kind of snobby:P

  • @BriskAxe Why would you come to a conclusion to a girl you haven't met? You have no proof. Don't make assumptions based on appearances.

  • @Mortellina My opinion isn't based on her appearance; not even in the slightest. I based my opinion upon the way she carries herself during her speech.

  • @BriskAxe Yes she is... she came to our school and while she was giving her presentation she came up with a couple of mean and judgemental comments...

  • This was awesome.. Did yol notice the references to the monetary system and socialism.. This is great..

  • Be more childish? No thanks. Wars and opression are caused precisely because adults are remaining CHILDISH, egocentric, self-absorbed. We need to grow out of that. Tantrums and revengeful thinking are the hallmark of immature thinking, not advanced thing. I like being an old, fuddy duddy thank you.

I don't consider a convuslsive splattering of paint on canvas to be "creative"...that's just sloppy. Art is refinement, discipline, maturity...something like Leonardo Da Vinci...not Homer Simpson

  • @JesusManson323

    Your handle justifies your thinking..

  • Fundamentally, what I've seen as a teacher, parent, and former child, (well unless you ask my wife) and what Adora points to is a gap in our ability to communicate effectively. I wish there were more technologies focused on trying to bridge that gap.

  • Wow, in this instance, "age is nothing but a number"

  • Pft, she is still just a child. Why should we listen to her?

  • is that what you understood from this whole talk?then your only a jerk:S wtf dude?

just because sm a child doesnt mean hes wrong its just that she has right points and some wrong..anyway shes not Just a child shes a child who's smarter than you and many adults and who looks up to changing the world and

a child who wants to make a difference

she should be president lol but seriously she should be like when shes 20 years old &she'll be a little bit more mature even though shes already proved that

  • @dightkuz Because what you just said right there technically just proved this girl's point, if you were listening at all.

Just because she's young, doesn't make her a dummy.

  • I admire the girl for her stage presence and ability to deliver a message, however canned. But whoever fed her the political slam at the beginning of the message should be ashamed. I was looking forward to an inspirational message, but I couldn't watch it past that point. I consider this direct manipulation of what appears to be an otherwise brilliant child. Shame.

  • @jimpraytwice i don't think anyone "fed" her the message... she's a really independent thinker and all those interpretations are from her own perspective... you can check out her blog online to know more about her

  • @jimpraytwice So children can't have political points of view, I know I did when I was 10.

  • What a stunning presentation- it was a much needed wake up call for the more pessimistic adults out there :)

  • I'm in 3 minutes and fell in love.

  • Are her parents as smart, if not, they must be learning a lot.

  • @AnnaHuxley

I think they are smart, her dad is some kind of PhD physicist - but not THAT smart for their age!

  • Damn I've only watched a minute and a half so far and I'm already getting wicked chills!

  • This was so cool!

  • wow!

  • Great wake-up call! The US, particularly, tends to give great lip service to cherishing it's children while at the same time almost completely dismissing them as people. Granted, this young lady is exceptional, but most kids her age will astound adults with their talent, insight, imagination and capabilities. Like she intimated, I just don't think adults are paying attention.

  • WOAH, what an amazing speaker!

  • She is acting "adultish" by criticising George Bush -- and it is unbecoming and unnecessary. Her ego and sense of self-importance are beginning to take over her prescient abilities and is losing me as a sympathetic listener.

  • @nunatheart

    I agree.

  • Kids are responsible for abortions by becoming abortions, oh look I used her logic.

  • I teach little kids, and they universally despise school. I agree--we should just give them all laptops and leave them alone. The ambitious ones will study and the lazy ones can play games without adults torturing them with tests and homework.

  • @kwashikwashi

Schools are babysitting. How will the two adults work if the kids is at home all day? We torture children with forced schooling so that we can make lots of money.

  • this shows that just because you are a motormouth doesn't mean you have useful ideas. Most kids are nothing more than humans with a smaller brain, there is nothing special or admirable about them, especially not since they start to display all the disgusting human qualities (violence, jealousy , green etc.) at a very early age.

  • @sondano "especially not since they start to display all the disgusting human qualities (violence, jealousy , green etc.) at a very early age". That exactly was her point. Violence, jealousy and greed is learned from adults and thats what needs to be changed. Ofc it can be learned from other kids but where did those other kids learn from?

  • @VarykGerai They are not learned from adults. Even babies display these traits without anyone ever being greedy in front of them. These are innate human qualities very similar to those in chimpanzees and gorillas. Many animals are violent selfish bastards some more than others. Pandas are innately peaceful humans are innately aggressive. Blame the DNA.

  • im taking notes from a kid... lol

  • u are the best
