  • I had the privilege of singing with Roy McNeil in 2005 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Tennesee. My son and I had sang at the Music City Gospel Showcase that year and went to Church the Sunday morning to sing there. Mr McNeil was asked to sing after us, and he requested us to sing back up. What a privilege!

  • The Statesmens' second/lead tenors during the decade of the 1960s were Jake Hess (1949-63), Jack Toney (1963-65), Roy McNeil (1965-67), Jack Toney (1967-68), Don Butler (1968), and Jim Hill (1968-71).

  • @DaveSwinger

Is there any footage or recordings of the group with Don Butler? I assume he wasn't on any studio recordings?

  • Anyone know if this song was ever recorded? If so, what album?

  • @beatapt5

Yes, it was on there album called Golden Gospel Gems that came out in 1965. Jack Toney was on the recording. Three other songs (Heavenly parade, Touch me lord jesus, and Praying hands) are on youtube that are also from this album.

  • Jack Toney was in there somewhere. Not sure if he was before or after Roy.

  • just the best singing in this whole world great

  • Guessing Roy came immediately after Jake?

  • Roy McNeil in this one. Great singer. Thank you.
