Hey Punisher08, just curious why others say you have to convert the .MOD files prior to importing into iMovie? Is this different for iMovie 09? The reason I ask is I am about to purchase an iMac and have a JVC Everio w/ tons of .MOD files. If I can utilize your method, without converting, that would be great.
After searching for a non existent MediaBrowser 1.2 (for my Mac) for approximately 2 hours. I finally listened to the small voice in my head that said... "why don't you look on Youtube?". My problem was solved in minutes!!!

HELP! when i put jvc videos on my mac, IT was supposed to be widescreen but then when i play it back on a vlc player or any other players it turns out to be a compressed screen.
I have a JVC everio with the a sd card slot instead of a hdd sd. im not sure if this effects the importing but i remember when i used to be able to upload the way you just showed without a problem but when i downloaded snow leopard it doesnt work anymore, im not sure if that is because of the snow leopard or if im doing something wrong
kbooby...Chances are that you had the QuickTime plugin installed from Apple that is available for MPEG2 playback...If you did purchase this & had it installed...then...when Snow Leopard is installed it gets deleted...you would have to find your original installer if you backed it up & re-install it...This only a guess at what might be wrong after a Snow Leopard upgrade.
make sure you REMOVE ANY SD CARDS before you connect the camera to your computer or else it will only upload the PHOTOS taken with the camcorder and not the VIDEOS.
wow its really that easy...i just messed around with it for like a half hour trying to install .mod converters and stupid stuff and then i came across this video.. Thanks alot
@TheJVCMan You cannot use the native JVC files in FCP, but you can convert them using Mpeg Streamclip (google it) it is free and fast and has a TON of export options. I made a video showing how to do this. (I have an HD version of the Everio, so they are .TOD files).
. Best thing I think is to try and get the footage backed up using XP, then format the drive within the camera menu. Do some test recordings and try and connect it to Vista and Mac and see how you get on.
I have a GZ-MG505U and Mac 10.5 and it can't detect the camcorder. I have the exact same issue with Vista. It work juste fine with XP tho. It was working before with 10.4. Do you have any idea why it should not work. In the system profiler I don't see anything when the camera is on. It say on the cam USB MASS STORAGE so the mac should mount the drive but it's not.
It could be due to an unsafe removal of the drive previously. Although the hard drive is in FAT32 so the mac should see it. I dont think the problem lies with your iMovie but either with the camera hard drive or with the Mac. Although as you are saying the camera can not be seen on Vista and only works on XP that sounds more like a hard drive issue
Most cameras give you a prompt when it is safe to unplug, etc. This was hung up on the "Transferring" text, with pic of a laptop on the LCD. I verified that everything was transferred; just was uncomfortable turning her off without some sort of "end" from the menu or it returning to the former screen. Thanks...
Bought a Canon Legria FS200, package said it was compatible with Mac but only the pictures taken with the camera are displayed on my Mac. Now looking into the JVC Everio MS120 (recording on SDcards) , but is that one also compatible with Mac?
which JVC Everio model do you have? and does it shoot in 16:9 because I was looking into getting one and I don't like to upload a lot of videos in HD, thats what i have my Kodak Z1285 for to shoot in HD when I want to.. thanks.
I have a few cameras. The GZ-HD7, GZ-MG330 and I have access to virtually all the other JVC models. All the JVC Everio cameras record in 16:9 mode. If you are looking for a quick and easy solution for uploading videos to uTube then you should get the GZ-MS120/130 this is a wicked camera for 10 mins clips.
Any ideas on how to get the sound to work on this hdd camera? I cannot playback a movie and hear any sound. I sure could use some help before I return this camera to the store.
what model? does playback work on the camera? what version of OSX? are you using iMovie? please give more detail in your questions for a proper answer.
I can't get the sound to work at all. I just purchased this camera this past evening and I can record, but, when I play the file back, there is no sound. I have searched and searched for a mute button somewhere, but, I give up. Any suggestions? Thanks

Okay so I have to do this school project and I have a JVC everio HDD and a PC.. to work with the programs on my PC I convert them to MPGs but it obviously doesn't work for my schoo MAC computers.. that are either 05 or 06... will it work if I upload them to the MAC 05/06 laptops at my school? I need to use iMovie to edit my project
As I've said so many times before if you have the GZ-HD3,7 then you need iMovieHD to edit. If you have the standard Everio GZ-MG130,330 etc.. then use iMovie08 or now 09 to edit.
IF you have a newer version of the HD Everio being the HD40, 50 that record in MPEG4 then you can use iMovie09 to edit them.
i got one of these for christmas it works great. no problem uploading it to imovie but when i try to upload it to facebook it says it will take 2 hours for it to upload but then the loading bar just stops at 50 minutes and freezes i have no idea what to do
i got one for christmas and its awesome it works when i upload it to imovie but when i try to upload to facebook it says that it will take 2 hours but then it always freezes up around 50 minutes left to go what do i do??

Hello, Thanks for your video it makes it look very simple. I bought the JVC Everio GZ-MG330AUS to go with my Macbook (leopard, iMovie '08) and was worried if I should open the box, or return it from what I was reading. Thanks for giving me some hope. I didn't want a product that I had to convert a bunch of crap to use. Thanks for taking the time to help people. Chris
I think this video is fantastic, thankyou so much for helping everyone. I just have one question for you. My Everio is a GZ-MG....does that mean your tutorial should work on it, or is it categorised as a HD camera? This is probably a silly question, but im not really sure. Thanks again.
Sorry, your video really sucks. The music sucks, the video quality sucks, and on top of it all it didn't help me with my everio gz-hd3u /macbook pro. From what it sounds like, this camcorder out-the-box is not compatible with macbook pro out-the-box. Why must you download another app? This JVC is going back to the store tomorrow.
what an idiot!! As I keep on SAYING THIS VIDEO ONLY APPLIES TO THE STANDARD VERSION OF THE EVERIO. THIS VIDEO DOES NOT APPLY TO THE HD VERSIONS (FOR PEOPLE LIKE THIS WHO CANT SEEM TO READ. I WILL BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU. IT DOES NOT APPLY TO THE GZ-HD3, HD5, HD6 OR HD7!!! IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY AT MY GUIDE THEN CREATE YOUR OWN YOU TWAT!
Hey! Thanks for sharing you knowledge. Quick question, I had 7.4 that was installed with my iLife08 package. When I followed your instructions, iMovie wouldn't recognize that the camera was even connected to the computer even though I can clearly see the everio harddrive on my desktop. I put quicktime in the trash and emptied but iMovie still won't recognize the camera is plugged in. Any suggestions?
So are you saying that this way you showed will work with the HD7 but only if you don't upgrade your Quicktime? Wondering if you know how to make the Hd7 work with iMovie08?
No did you read my comments? like I've said already. You need to use iMovie HD which is free to iLife 08 customers... And yes dont upgrade to the latest version of quicktime if you are using the HD versions. And install the quicktime plugin you got with the HD camera.
THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE STANDARD EVERIO... Only the HD3 and HD7. For SD versions use the method I used in my video.
The Standard Everio will work with life08 nothing else I have tried will work with them. The HD versions must use iMovie HD which is a free download if you are an ilife08 customer from Apple.
I have now heard that if you install the latest version of Quicktime 7.4 on your Mac it can stop any Everio files from working on imovie. i have yet to confirm this or find a work around but just to let you know that it may be an issue. If i find out more i will post it up for you.
WOW what a simple yet effective way to show Mac users how to transfer their footage. I was struggling with my Mac, but this video made it simple to follow. If only all manufacturers did this!

Masterine 2 years ago
can u not expand it to full screen? and remember when u watch it on a PC unless you have a widescreen monitor it will be in 4:3 anyways.
TheJVCMan 2 years ago
You can do a thing called "letterboxing". It will cut off part of the shot, but will make the frame 16:9 instead of 4:3.

First of all what camera?
If its a NON HD version then use iMovie08/09
if its a HD version that uses MPEG2 i.e. .TOD files then use iMovieHD.
if its a HD version that uses AVC HD then iMovie08/09 will work. i.e. .MTS
Also make sure you have installed updates for the software.
