The solo is so great. Especially how you mirror the chorus with the guitar. Reminds me of other Weezer's songs. Plus you add a little spice in the end. Perfecto!
a. I really dig that guitar/drum break after the first chorus. Nice change-up there.
b. I think the chorus chords on Rivers' step 10 video fit much better. I'm not sure which one of you wrote that one, but it seemed to fit the melody and such a little more.
c. I like the bridge lyrics, but like someone else mentioned, maybe make it just '88 to make the syllables fit better. I don't mind the Ozma thing.
d. I think the end only needs one of those "turnin, turnin, turnin" parts.
Hey dude, great edit! That's how I meant 'the good times roll' line to be edited in - great stuff. Must be a pretty amazing feeling to hear your backing vocals behind River's lead!
cheers again. I posted your bridge revised. thanks for the chance to work on your ideas. Good luck with the studio. i wish I could have a spot like that. All I got is a Imac to work with. lol
thanks for the good words on my version. I kinda missed the deadline last time, but I am taking your bridge music right now ( as Rivers chose) and adding some vocals. It is similar but slightly more anthem like in the heavier department. Anyway, I like your ideas & it is fun to work this out with ya. Cheers!
NES came out in 1985. That's also the year Marty went back in time haha. And the year of the Goonies. I vote 85! Oh snap! That's a bowling for soup song! 1981 was the year Raiders of the Lost Ark came out... 81? haha. 89? Batman came out that year.
dude... i'm totally going to see indy4 tomorrow night! I was born in 81. bttf is my all time fave. Jedi isn't as strong as empire (1980) 1985 is played out... 88... with just one tie in to some ozma song is pretty good. 86? 87? 84?
Dude. Me too. I'm so fuckin pumped to go see KOTCS. I'm going with my brother and some friends tomorrow night too!! Hellz yeah!! The man with the hat is back! If adventure has a name! lol.
I saw your new bridge lyrics over on Rivers' post and I wasn't sure how they'd work, but I think it really fits. I'm glad you left in 'let the rockers roll' until the very last. It's a much stronger line than 'good times roll', IMHO. My only other thought was that the drum/guitar break sounds a little thin- like something is missing. You're doing a great job with this song!
I definitely love the idea of a break- maybe more of the drums or something like the slide on the guitar you had in the last version (sorry, I have absolutely no vocabulary about this stuff).

I love the changes that Rivers made to the last chorus, switching up the vocal melody, that's what I'm talking about! Great job on this project!

hey man, try to put this chorus in your next version!!!! and it will be perfect!!!
dallakjan 3 years ago
so i wrote out this huge comment but it didnt post so i will quickly recap it:
i like your chorus. especially how you only change the last one
change the date from 1988 to whenever you were born because apparently 88 is a disgrace to weezer fans
to make the breakdown fit more you could see if it fits before or after the bridge
and finally:
The self full of toy at :25 i painted that shit.

tAYLOR D2 You are the SHIT
but Yeah Gibrawk made teh same thing I thought of
Dont use the year 1988 otherwise the similarieties to Ozmas "1988" wil be too apparent. It will seem like rivers is homaging Ozma????
Because Ozma (I love them) basically is a glorified Weezer Tribute Band.
So that would really be backwards.
the 80s theme is fine. but 88 is risky.
I suggest 84. Because thats when I was born
or maybe even 82? Because I think thats when nintendo came out.
Azorino 3 years ago
interesting, i chose 88 because it rhymes.
i've never heard that ozma song.

thanks kmunkit!
i kinda thought the drum / guit break was a cool change of pace but could maybe use something else to tie it in to the next / previous part.

You should drop the 19 from 1988, just sing "Back to 88"
I dig the stutter, though.

Ever heard of OZMA. I would take a listen before recording lyrics like that.
