Many people liked Apple products in their own homes and they were often found in schools that had computers then, but the business world was trending to IBM machines and clones. A very few had IBMs at home for work stuff and Apples for fun or for the kids, but not many could afford that then.
Apple held on in Schools, with a heavy presence there even in the rough times of the 1990s.

Apple has become exactly what they once criticized. The 1984 ad makes me laugh now ... because Apple IS Big Brother.
