again the pedal steel played as much a part in this beautiful song as the harmonies did, but no recognition. Why? A copyright thing, just a player for the day, per deim session stuff? This'll always remind me of Easy Rider. A snapshot, especially the phased bit which they did'nt do here. I like phasing..a proper Leslie is better although an improper Doppler is better
Interesting as Jim Gordon plays drums on this track instead of Mike Clarke, so this TV appearance was during the brief period Mike came back before being told he was fired...? Just wondering x
Shoutout to my3snappy and robertaberge for noticing the strange personnel. Yeah, McGuinn must have put in an emergency call to Gene Clark for this gig. He had been out of the group for about a year, I believe. Crosby had recently been fired--in part, I believe, for not wanting to play this very song. He saw it as gross commercialism. Too bad. It IS a very commercial song by a couple of very professional songwriters. Lucky that those songwriters were Goffin and King.
Hard to write a song that's this sensitive and positive without making people puke. But Gerry and Carole did. And The Byrds did this to perfection. I'm guessing The Wrecking Crew figured back into things here, too.
Wow, they got Gene Clark to sit in on this? Really surprised to see. This had to be one of the last living moments of the original Byrds, both Clark(e)s were gone right after and the other two put a new band together for Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
i like the song, but 0:37-0:47 is the real reason i can't stop watching this video. ten seconds of visual bliss ;)

The magnificent Gerry Goffin/Carole King composition masterly interpreted by The Byrds, here lipsynching to the record.
What heavenly harmonies at the end!
0:37 Note the temporary return of Gene Clark, after David Crosby's departure.
