I do believe the pilot and co-pilot do qualify as heros. It took nerves of steel to land on (not crash into) the water. A hero is someone who overcomes outrageous odds to achieve something unbelieveable. Those pilots are heros. Most pilots could not pull off the landing that they did. Give them some credit.

The pilot stayed onboard after everyone else was off, and risked his own life to search the entire plane for anyone left behind.
That makes him a hero, regardless of whether or not you want to acknowlege him for his heroic efforts.
