@PerenyiMiklosFan1 Vibrato has nothing to do with the romantic style. You are confusing emotion with Romanticism . Vibrato is your soul , your inner world . Using vibrato in a classical piece does not make it romantic on the contrary it makes it full of emotion . And you cannot say that in the Classical era there was no emotion ;) So i think the boy is doing fine !
So please dont notice this as a bad comment. I wuold like only to help you and I would like you just to be a good cellist. And I suggest you one more thing.
Less vibrato, Read a litle bit about Classical style, learn a lot of music history.
Dear Stéphane you are tallented. There is only one playing wich I found 3 years ago on your playing. And I always check out if doese it change but it is not. So no I a have to talk to you about it ( not because I want to be enoying ) for help you.
My only one problem is your vibrato. You have mabye maximu 2 tipes of vibratos. There are many many type of vibratos. And that fast one in this Haydn concerto it sonds so ugly. ( I talk for exemple : 0:14 , 0:29 ,0:33 or the bigining of mvt 3 )
@PerenyiMiklosFan1 Technically you are correct but I remember Rostopovitch's recording of 30 + years ago and there is dramatic use of vibrato. My teacher would agree with you but I wonder whether we should be so restricted musically. Stephane is a romantic player who plays every piece with full intensity. Personally I love this young man's playing and I believe that audiences do as well. . Thanks for expressing your opinion.
@mspg2 I think you misunderstand me. He plays good. But the problem is here ( you sayd it ) : ,, Stéphane is a romantic player who plays every piece with full intensity ,, . So I think here is the problem. He should only learn a litle bit style. I mean Learn interpretation of , baroque, classical, romantic, 20 century music, and contemporary as well. If he will know to makedifferences he will be musch more better than now. And hes playing willbe more interesting and deep.
@PerenyiMiklosFan1 I think this boy is far beyond this kind of advice. Obviously, his technique is good enough to play this concerto any way he wants to. What you said is true, but I find a little bit pretentious to assume he is not aready well aware of that. Perhaps his "out-of-style playing" is only a personal choice.
@PerenyiMiklosFan1 I didn't want to be rude. Only pointing that any serious cellist would rather take technical advice from great maestros at master classes than random youtube comments. I don't know him, but I'm sure that he is already well informed about that you said. Any cellist at his level of skill is. Your comment is OK, but I don't think is applied to the right person, that's all. PD. I also like Perenyi. I saw him ten years ago, playing Boccherini and Beethoven in A. Very impressive.
Very great musician, with a deep soul, who feels music with a rare deepness.Thank youy!
