  • The Irate Gamer should take some notes from you. Nevermind, he just needs to die.

  • this review was pretty dang funny. You bring up some hilarious points

  • i fire ectoplasma all the time then

  • The story has a kid's story book feel to it, where there's alot of suspension of disbelief, and with all the weird stuff in it, its given an obscure twisted charm for it.

In order for the story to make more sense, I think it should be that the monsters started to invade Earth and Bert goes off to investigate. He finds Mark fending himself off from some monsters and he helps him by giving his bat powers. Mark convinces him to let him help, despite the danger, and the rest is the rest.

  • Isn't it ironic that the pumpkin mini boss says "Please don't pick on me" yet he's picking on you? Looks like the tables in a way were turned for Mark.

  • I wish I had this growing up for my NES instead of that retarded TMNT game.

  • You know what I really find funny about the first level is that many enemies are just bare asses sticking out of the ground! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

  • kkkkkk you´re fun! "You gotta mooooovie it" Man, it´s surely a game to laugh! "Sorry, I´m dead" and "My legs are asleep". LOL!

  • One of the WEIRDEST Nes games I ever played. "Sorry I'm Dead" LOL! Always remember to apologize for dying, people.......It may help with the inconvienence of people having to spend money to bury your ass!.

  • "TIME TO DO SOME DAMAGE."

    - Retarded Well

  • Exactly 60 hits on the first boss, what the fuck?

  • This is the story of the plates( or the well boss), a woman was married to a rich family and they have 10 plates of the same kind but they were specially made for them and it meant the only 10 plates in the whole world. But the woman broke 1 and the head of the family was mad, so he killed her and threw her into the well. In the story she keep counting the plates and scared the shit out of everybody, but in the game she threw the plates at you. That's the pretty much story of the boss.

  • @LeeZhongEn1998 Wow, that's a very interesting story. Thanks for posting this.

  • I dunno if you know this, but y'know the shit with the cactus? Well stuff like that was supposed to happen on EVERY level. However, America got the censored version, with those parts taken out, and the uncensored version, ie the Japanese version, was.... never released. It's why there is a lot of fascination around this game, because the game is pretty damn creepy, even by today's standards... but what horrors could have lurked in the Japanese original?

  • @dumbasspauldentonkin

You have a source for that statement? I've seen it all over the place, but never seen the actual evidence. I'm referring to the "freaky transformation occurring in every level" thing in particular.

  • Now I know where Square got their inspiration from when creating the cactuar

  • Possibly one of the weirdest NES game ever made for its time...Its art, graphics and unique style make it stand the test of time even for today...Some of the best bosses in any NES game around...It's WTF all the way through..Thank god for emulators..Why don't we have games like this nowdays?.....

  • lol the snake that medusa fires looks like a secret enemy in castlevania aria of sorrow (Gba)

  • 5:14 Cactuar!

  • @iceblue1220 It was a CREEPER!!! SSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssss

  • @SCBianchi Wut?

  • I remembner this game! It was a real pain in the ass for me when I was younger. lol

  • a medusa with a snake for a body?, more like 'fro snake or just a snake with more snakes for a hair, or, wait, nevermind, japaneses are fucked up =P

  • I remember this game! It's fucked up and very scary.

  • I always thought it was money getting shot out of the well

  • One of my favorite games I played growing up. Some crazy shit in this game...

  • Haha , I played this game like 4 months ago and I remember it being a badass . It is though :) Always liked this game since the first time I played it but damn it is hard for me .

  • Great review! I saw this at a local video game store that sells games for every system. I saw this one there and wasn't sure about it. But next time I'm there maybe I'll pick it up.

  • I first heard of this game by watching the Irate Gamer review it. I was making a Youtube Poop of his video (editing clips so they are funny) and about a week before Halloween, I downloaded Monster Party, just to have see what it was like. I actually like it, I'm not a fan of blood, but the game was fun. It was cheesy and funny.

  • Same here. I first heard of it after watching Irate Gamers review. Its actually a fun game. Cheesy, but good.

Keep up the good work, Aqualung! :D

  • That first level reminds me of Eversion.

  • Unorthodox. Meaning unconventional.

  • Oops! Sorry, I thought you said orthodox. Ok, that clears it all up. Hmm this game kinda looks fun aside from how lame Mark's attacks are and how bizarre the bosses are and how long it takes to kill them.

  • Peelz here!

  • The story in Japan is not about a well that throws dishes, it is about a monster that lives in the well, and the only way to get rid of it is to make it look at it's own reflection (in water)

  • Awesome review.

Are you from boston or new york you seem to have the accent

  • this one is the first aqualung video, love it! <3

  • Nope. My first one was "Adventures of Tom Sawyer" which was unceremoniously taken down due to a BS copyright claim. But it's re-uploaded, and there were about 4 others or so that came after it before "Monster Party."

  • ops i wrote wrong! xD this was MY first Aqualung video xD

  • Ah, understandable misunderstanding.

  • the ectoplasm looks like mummy bandages almost

  • you should review ghost'n goblins

  • ichimae, nimae, sanmae...

The legend of Okiku is what the well and dishes are based on.

  • Sweet ^^ I was hoping someone else would catch on that that's why the boss is a well shooting dishes~ (Sad yet neat legend, no?)

  • that doesnt look like etcoplamsem...

  • is a great game right?

    that interested me ...

  • I love your style of narration.

  • What the hell is that, shrimp?! Lol

  • Every boss has a projectile, except for that poor dead guy.

  • "Sorry, I'm Dead."

LOL! I love this game, I played it this weekend when I went digging through my old NES games.

  • I didnt think another person in the world, knew about this game.

  • MOOVE IT lol

  • I wonder if the people who made the freeware game "Eversion" got some inspiration from this game... er.. from the first level, anyway.

  • "Hello baby" lol!!!

  • Nice review man, definately brings back memories.

  • Question his recruiting skills, thats pretty funny

  • This is one of the most memorable games from my childhood mainly for the abstract and creepy art in it, thanks for the vid! 5/5

  • this is the scariest game I've seen on this video.

  • I bought this game at Toys R Us for $20. Now I know why it was the cheapest game on the rack. I beat it in one day.

  • Yeah it is you dick. IGSRJ reviewed this first. I'll calm down and watch the next victim get brainwashed.

  • I spotted TMNT Technodromes. =P

(You know where I got it from.)

  • I just got Monster Party at play 'n' trade ^^

  • I was scared to death of this game when I was small..

  • Shit. I was scared to death of this game when I was in high-school... I'd never seen anything so random... Love this review! I work in an antique store, so I watch reviews of NES games while old women walk around and introduce me to their granddaughters... That is until they find out I'm watching Monster Party. Then they scream and leave. The narration for this review is great. It's like havin' a Scorsese character review one of my favorite games..

  • this guys accent is awesome.

  • ectoplasm looks like sperm cells LOL I used to play the hell outta this game I still have it i think I'll give it a go this weekend.

  • I think the ectoplasm is actually supposed to be bandages from the mummy... I'm not sure though, so there's a possibility that it's sperm.. Neither would surprise me in this game.

  • Ha, i dont get whats up with the Shrimp, and the onion ring? LOL

  • lol

    sorry im dead

  • Bitch sounds like Dr. Light

  • "this is re-tad-id" no actually it was a very good review thank

  • I remember this game from WAY back. Glad to have found it.

  • i have this game and it rules it is a classic!

  • Guess what? I just subscribed.

Awesome review. This game looks really weird, but if I see it at a yard sale or something, I'll pick it up for sure. It's almost so crazy that it has to be in my collection.

  • This game kicks ass. Nice review.

  • Ectoplasm huh? Looks more like jizz.

  • Dude, the third food was a fish cake on a stick, not a kebab. Nice video though. I ejoyed it^^

  • I have yet to get my revenge on the last boss that kick my ass! I'm still pissed about it! lol

  • stage 6 horrible

  • I love the music for Round 4 and it is my favorite Round

  • This game was fun. I used to be up all night playing this. I used to have nightmares from the music when stage 1 changes to the zombie world lol I was like 5 years old.

  • like the music in round 3

  • godamn man..this was so fuckin strange to me as a kid...dancing zombies?. i beat this game only twice..and felt victories cuz it was so tough! lol

  • THIS GAME IS THE BESSSSST

  • Sorry. .I'm dead :D :D

  • cool

  • My cowardly 8-year-old self (when this game was originally made) would have been scared shitless at 5:15.

  • Ah, the infamous monster party tree. I can't even recall how many let's players and reviewers have been freaked out by that.. Always with amusing reactions.

  • Wow that kid is pretty stupid...Didn't his mother tell him not to go with STRANGERS!

  • The spider is Deceased Crab. Huzzah!

  • omg i remember when i was 8 years old playing this game. so much memories. i actually found it kinda of difficult to defeat the pumpkin head.

  • "After all, what party is complete without food? ... Who am I kidding, this is fucking retarded." XD Absolutely classic.

  • Actually since this game came out at about 1989 I don't think The Ring or Ringu was even out yet.

  • at 5:15 when I was little I WAS LIKE OMG..WTF....OMG..SILENT HILL!!!>?>

I love that...no other nes game had so much gore and dark side until I played MONSTER PARTY, and I love the music...still...I played that game when I was like 11 years..NOW IM 29.;..and still love this game.

  • i remember being in toys r us with my dad and him telling me to pick out any game i wanted and i grabbed this cause of the cool cover :) i love good memories also a great game

  • its not a spider its Deceased Crab!!! "D

  • nice game.

  • Hey Rocky...I know your just a troll, but seriously, what is your fucking problem? This isn't even a comedy review, is a serious review and walkthrough of the game, and he does a fine job.

  • you people need to move on with the AVGN,he is good, but there are many good reviewer and Aqualung is defenatly one of them.Execpt Irategamer, hes a ripoff

  • I honestly do not get this game. Eerie and silly do NOT go together.

  • Hmmm this looks and sounds a whole lot like Magic Joe/Totally Rad.

  • i think that one spider boss is acctually a flea.

  • Really? I thought it was a dead horse...

  • nice video! I think the 2nd boss in round 1 is actually a dead dinosaur, it's side ways with green eyes.

  • About the Well Boss. Take out space.

    en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Bancho_Sarayashiki

Of course, It's Japanese, so there was no freaking way we Americans would understand it.

  • This is one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen! HAHAHA!

  • I used to think that "dead" boss was a spider too, but if you look at the left side of it, it looks like a lizard head. The right part of it does consist of its legs, that middle part is a bloated stomach. Anywho, nice review, it's hard to find anything Monster Party related anymore.

  • ur as funny as thegaminggoose and sashanien :3

  • about the 1st boss in the 3rd round, that monster wanted you to MOOOVE it. LOL get it? MOOOVE it? lol

  • i guess the spider that earlier was dead turned into a zombie, and that why it comes bck and says (im gonna suck your blood) or whatever.

    nice review btw.

  • I remember this game....

The thing is, the blood was overlooked by Nintendo's censors.

  • I played it befor, HATED IT! now i like it XD

  • "sorry, I'm dead." I used to say that to get out of school when I was much younger!

  • did it work?

(no need, i just wanna know)

  • No. Do people who are REALLY dead speak? So, as a result, my folks dragged me out of bed by my feet! XD

I can't believe I thought it'd work! Then again, I was about five back then and I used to have the game.

  • I own this game :D

  • this game was FUCKING HARD

  • Good walkthrough. I actually think monster party is my 1989 game of the year. The reason is that I've not yet played many NES games in my short life. I actually think a baseball bat weapon adds (the good kind of) challenge to the game! Believe it or not, I say the graphics are great compared to MANY other NES games. If you wish to know a dreadful NES game, try "action 52" or "Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". However, that's just my opinion and I respect yours while I disagree to an extent.

  • Id like to hear the story about that well that throws plates lol O.o

  • I read about that: its based on an old japanese legend about a maid that drowned herself in a well after she lost (or so she thought) one of 10 plates that were very valuable for the family. I think it was called "Okiku's Well" in case you want to look about it.

  • I might just, thanks for info

  • reminds me of silent hill when it changes

  • 4 hits. Yeah, that put a real dent on my life meter.

  • For one thing, I didn't knock this game. I pointed out its flaws, but never accused this game of being poor, watch the whole review before you accuse me of giving this game a bad score. As far as the graphics go, I know that the NES is limited but this game has mediocre graphics even by NES standards. Didn't mean to sound like an ass, but I had to give you my counter-point.

  • I have a theory about the ghost that says his legs are asleep. Perhaps the Japanese version of the saying is "My legs are dead" which makes more sense.

  • Actually this never came out in Japan. Very odd since Japanese programmers made this.

  • Yes, but they could have translated the original Japanese script. Or maybe the game was always in English and the Japanese writers had poor English.

  • If the spider is dead, how in the world can it tell you that it's dead? That always confused me.

  • lol mooooove it lol

  • When I saw the title, I thought it was the game "Monster in my Pocket" but then I remembered that this game is different. Anyways, nicely done. Look forward to your next review!

  • This game scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I got to the end after 5 days after I got this game. And then I hid under my bedsheets when I saw the end. great walkthrough/review, and you just got a subscriber ^^

  • Does the well have something to do w/ the Japenese version of the "The Ring"?

  • Lol, very good!!!

I think the barttered shrimp boss is stuff you find on Japanese venders market stalls in streets, The onion ring I think is battered octopus rings and the shish kebab is Teriyaki, (Chicken). But it's just a guess...

    5/5

  • Giant spider? I always thought it was some wierd Creature with a green eye.

  • The manual refers to it as a Giant Spider, and it has a vague likeness to a spider of some sort. But since it's Monster Party, it really could be anything.
