By the way, the s2000 has been around since 1999, Honda simply feel it has reached the end of its life.

My stock E46 330i made 197hp to the wheels. The guy after me had stock AP1 S2000 and made only 195hp. (Same day same dyno). Honda says that S2000 makes 240hp on the crank and BMW makes only 225. Either Honda has extreme drivetrain losses or Honda lied (much like Mazda did with RX8). My Prelude was rated at 200 hp but it only made 151 on the wheels (best run)... S2000 is still a nice fun car and I love driving it. It would be so much better if it actually had more power. AP1 torque is pathetic.

The S2000 is a shameful car... below 6000 RPM you actually have less power and torque than a regular Honda Civic. Then you have 240HP and maybe 150 ft/lbs of torque for 2000 RPMs, then you have to shift. You're better off with a turbo, or better yet, a real motor. The S2000 was a totally cool idea totally fucked up.

The S2000 was NOT done right, to see what it should have been like, imagine a TVR Tamora (similar weight, 3x the torque)a Caterham (better power, and makes the S2000 seem like a bulimic elephant in the weight dept.)or the Lotus Exige (less weight, more power... see a pattern here?) The S2000 is a disappointing drive until 6000 RPM (almost 50 MPH in second)Track only.

But my point was that V-tec was more "Hey, look what we can do!" than anything else. On a track, with the right gearing and no speed limits, S2000 would be great. But for the streets, the 1.8t from a VW/Audi would be a better fit... Imagine an extra 50ft.lbs of torque @ 1500-5500rpm and same horsepower, just WAY lower in the revs.

yeah I do not know many people who like the look of the TVR. And yes consider me alien and all of them as well if you want; but TVRs are some of the ugliest things in the automobile industry today, sorry. Yes a 1.8T will have more torque than a 2.0litre high rev engine because one is built for round the city driving (1.8t) and the other is built for track purposes; with a s2k try rev matching when pushing it to the limit; the sensation is beyond anything that a 1.8t can ever hope to offer.

What I was trying to bring out with the practicality was the fact that the s2k is far more practical and affordable than any of the cars you stated whilst offering a competitive overall race package that can be run on the track. This is what makes it unique and therefore as ilianGT pointed out worthy of respect. I am not a big honda fan but I will never bash a s2k, once you have actually pushed one to the limit it will surprise the hell out of you.
