Dude, holy crap. Well done. I learned how to play this song a while ago and it doesn't sound even close to this good. I better get back to practicing lol.
Finally got around to trying to tackle this piece Pascal ,so I thought I'd check your fingering as some of these chords stretches and runs are quite difficult. so Im drawing on your fine version as my guide
@tarkineWild it is an uplifting peice to play, Lesley! It seems harder than it realy is. You have those wide stretches, typical for DADGAD, and the repetitive runs are always played slightly different: to give it an "improvisational impression", so typical for Bensusan. If you hav skype, we can go over this peice together? In any case: good luck!
@Qpidon I knew something that sounds this good was never going to be easy m8 and my fingers are getting a very unaccustomed workout, but it will come with practice Thanx for the skype offer pascal but sorry I dont have it m8 but thanx for the kind offer :)
J'aime bien ton sourire à 2:47 ... Tu as aimé entendre ça sous le casque, hein ? Moi aussi j'adore la pêche que tu donnes à cette descente et cette magnifique basse !
Wow, fun, do you have a job? where do you find the time to work this stuff out, Bensusan is great. It sounds like to stole Bensusans effects box, what are you using?
Maybe...personaly I like it like this. IMHO I think slower one might get into problems with the general dynamics of the tune...at the end of the day, I think its a matter of taste ;-)
I have to say that this is pretty impressive playing my friend, especially since you mentioned that you neither read nor write musical notation, I can and believe me it would take me 2 week's of practice or more just to get the basic framework of this piece memorised. To then add in the proper dynamics ( i.e. vibrato, grace notes, rubato et al ) to make the piece flow and sound musical could take another month.
You are without doubt one of the finest finger style players on youtube my friend!
Wow, thats really fantastic! It must be very fun to play it. I always admire people who are their own teachers. What you play is Fingerstyle on the highest level!
Pierre Bensusan is also one of my favorite composers
I feel that the melody of Mr.Bensusan's songs is like fluent water or wind(I can not express exactly by using my poor English...but,it's a kind of sense,in Chinese idioms we call that 行云流水 ), which makes my ear follow his musical note with little disharmony, from the begining to the end.
impressionnant! quelle maîtrise! j'ai vu deux fois Bensusan jouer ce morceau dans une petite salle... franchement vous n'avez rien à envier à l'original. (et Dieu sait si je l'admire)
these videos are really good, but i'm just curious which of these are written by you because i can see your really good at guitar, i just want to see how something you wrote would sound
amazing. thats all i can say about this video. i am fourteen and have been trying to learn this song for quite a while but it is, as i am sure you know, very difficult. great job
Pascal, did you ever see him play live? I did about 15 yrs ago. It was a tiny, dark club in NYC, a dungeon, really-and he seemed nervous to be there. But during the break, he walked right up to me, SAT DOWN in the empty seat next to me-and proceeded to chat with me. Of course, his accent was so thick I could barely understand a word he was saying, but my heart was beating a thousand times a minute & it is one of my nicest memories of all time. Just thought I'd share that with you. :0)
I have seen him perform ones... like 25 years ago! He had a massive impact on me. Actually, I saw him a second time during a concert where he attended as a spectator. He was sitting right behind me, as he saw I recognized him, he humbly bow...Noble silence was what was left. ;-)
I've been listening to him since around 1990, when an old boyfriend of mine, who could play his tunes perfectly from 'ear' on his Lowden, introduced me to his Nice Feeling CD. I've been in love (with Bensusan!) ever since. Have you ever gone to any of his guitar workshops? The ones he offers at his home? If you haven't, oh you SHOULD!! You are amazingly talented, maybe you could teach Mr. Bensusan a thing or two! lol
funny you mention his work-shop: only a few days ago I mentioned to my wife I really would like to attend one....! But with the economic crises..hmmm maybe it'll have to wait. Speaking of which, I want a Lowden!!! (or a Ryan ;)
Me, teaching Bensusan, lol lol lol ...on the other hand, I am SURE Bensusan would say one can ALWAYS learn a thing or two from ANYBODY (...)
Btw, my icon from my main page is gone!? can you see it?
Looking forward to it! btw- your wife is extremely lucky to get to listen to her extremely talented, attractive husband play this beautiful music in her home all the time! (Sshhh--that was a harmless, little flirt-wink)
my wife doesn't give a toss about my music, for her, its only noize....I'm serious! snif... her input is: "if I dont say anything, that means its ok..."
Pascal, I am sorry to hear that, but I can relate to what you mean, truly. I am jealous of those couples who both share the SAME passion for beautiful, soulful music-and when it becomes the center of their love, well, then it is magical. In any case, you have TONS of admirers here on YT, myself included! :0)
how can she find this to be noise?!? well i guess when ur starting to learn it for the first time but now that you got the whole song down it sounds great!
You've worked really hard on this piece. I know it well. I've spent several years on it myself! Let me ask you, "What is the reaction of non-Bensusan fanatics?" I'll bet they're dulled by all the music and all the notes. That is a flaw in some of Pierre's pieces and in particular in some of his live performances. Just too much music. Recently, I've reduced this piece by about 1/2. Half the speed and half the embellishments. When you try that, Pierre's genius for melody really comes out. My $.02.
"Just too much music"? What is that supposed to mean? It's perfect the way is supposed to be played. Your words remind me those of Emperor Joseph II to Mozart in Amadeus: "Just cut a few (notes) and it'll be perfect". Flat wrong. And "My $.02"? Oh, well...
I don't disagree completely. But often guitar players listen to Bensusan with what they know to be the limitations of the instrument. Its not easy to leave that behind when listening to him. Bensusan does not (IMHO) play guitar, he plays music....but this sounds silly..and I agree, lol.
Pascal...thanks again. Just got from from another day at a job I don't like...sat down with a beer and listened to you play, and things got better. The stress melts away. Your playing is more gentle than Bensusans. That is not a plus or a minus....it's just someting good.

Ola Pascal, I realised that I had not ever listened to this video at all..mucho apologies mate... man you are truly achieving guitar greatness before our eyes.. literally.

you are truly in the big leagues now... rgds from singappre ( aussie ).. mike
I really love your playing, absolutely beautiful. If you only dusted your guitar off last year for the first time in ages either you were brilliant before you stopped playing or else you are the most talented natural guitarist on the planet!
Indeed. 17 years no playing at all. not a note. I even forgot I played all together before....Untill Tommy emmanuel showed up in my life. This being said, I've been playing again, actively, for two years now. (I should adapt my main page) You should compare my first video I uploaded with my last, and have a serious laugh while you are at it;-))
I'm so glad you like it, because you seriously rock yourself!
Beautiful job, and yes! There are not enough PB videos up here. I've been listening to him since 1992, when I saw him live in NYC. I adore his style. His music is among some of the most beautiful alternate tuning pieces I've ever heard.
There are some realy great ones out there! But, yes, the notes are one thing, to add the music is where I struggled....and still am , for that matter.
Wonderful music, very nice birds and a beautiful background...ik krijg gewoon weer zin om bellen te blazen ;-) Excellent video!!! You deserve much more stars then five!!!!!
Great job Pascal! I got to see Pierre live last February. As you played, I followed along with the music I have to "Wu Wei" from my Mel Bay's Fingerstyle Guitar Solos Vol I. It appears to be only slightly different, but pretty much dead on. Look like yours has a few extra harmonics. Are you using this transcription? Tough rhythms man! Again, great job, and thanks for posting! -Derek
Hello Derek! Indeed, I use Bensusan's tabs. Well, if you play ALL the notes that are written...it just sort of "all fits in" , if you see what I mean?
I saw Pierre only ones, and that was 30 years ago, and that souvenir is still very very vivid in my brain!
Is the tab available online?

I really love your playing, absolutely beautiful. If you only dusted your guitar off last year for the first time in ages either you were brilliant before you stopped playing or else you are the most talented natural guitarist on the planet!
Thank you for the inspiration.

Warm regards,
Pascal

Your comment is certainly appreciated: when it comes from such a great GREAT guitar player such as yourself. I feel honoured, realy.
The word "stage" is enough for me to feel dizzy ;)
Btw, tomorrow I plan to record a personal composition. Now THAT will be the moment of thruth, for me ;)
Warm regards, Angelo.

Not familiar with this Bensusan piece pascal but it has all the sweetness and soufulness of Pierre's virtuosity and you play it superbly.
Hope you have Flamorgan Air in you repertoire as it is a wonderful piece and would be worth the time and effort for submission on here.
tarkineWild 3 years ago
Thanks my friend, you would not have the tabs for Flamorgan Air, or So long Michael...?
I can t find these two :(

I'll have to check for So long Michael, but I have Flamorgan Air and will send it m8.

-Derek
AnchoriteProductions 3 years ago
Hello Derek! Indeed, I use Bensusan's tabs. Well, if you play ALL the notes that are written...it just sort of "all fits in" , if you see what I mean?
I saw Pierre only ones, and that was 30 years ago, and that souvenir is still very very vivid in my brain!
Pascal
