I discovered this band tonight, and is it wrong to say my life musically is changed? i think not. Frazers voice is so unique and every song i've listened to so far is uplifting and terribly beautiful. I'm in love
Still brings chills. I love how Robin admitted that he was not very good at guitar when they first started out so he used effects. Look what it produced. Amazing. No Cocteau Twins = no Slowdive and other bands of that era. Thank God Cocteau Twins existed because I love the followers as well.
I was working in a record store and a sales rep gave me this record when it was released. I've been hooked ever since. Elizabeth Fraser renders me speechless.
@prisionnerofsociety -About the time you decide being a prisoner is better left to others is probably about the time you will admit to yourself that the reasons you cant stop listening will become apparent.
4ad had the best artwork for their artists available to them...cocteau twins are simply amazing there is no other and never will be...for me even after 20 plus years they still move me in a way that i cant describe...music today pales in comparison...WTF happened to music today?
@dawnvictoria1 yes- the vinyl sounds a bit more warm to the ear as it was originally recorded for the analog-era, but I find that if I boost the bass and midrange on my cd-computer-system's graphic equalizer it warms the sound back up. Hell I'd listen to the Cocteau Twins even if it were coming out of a tin can..! ;)
I was living in Strasbourg when I got introduced to the CTs in 1985. That was the start of an enduring love for this band. I don't expect that Julie will ever see this comment, but thanks, Julie! Hope you're well and happy, wherever you are.
My hair stands on the back of my neck every time I hear this song's ending!
I love the CT's like no other band I've ever heard.....And I'm a Black Man!
Was listening to radio station WFMU out of N.J. one night, fell asleep studying for an exam, and in my sleep I could hear the strains of Liz's voice, with the beautiful gauzy sound of the Last track of the "Moon & the Melodies"LP.
Woke up to to it, and have been a fan of theirs ever sense!
Can you imagine it? A band releasing music for FOURTEEN years without a single misstep, a single weak album? This is heaven, original, sweet, strong...heaven.

@joys67 I knew they'd be a disappointment! I've always been sure Liz sang my name several times and now I know I'm wrong. I still totally love it though.

@latzky About 90% of any Cocteau Twins "lyrics" you find are only interpretations/guesses by listeners, because about 90% of their lyrics were never printed. "We have had people on the Internet who have written translations and they obviously have a natural talent for writing. Their interpretations are so beautiful that sometimes I have preferred what they have written to what I actually sang, it has been much more eloquent."
@madsketcher Mate you're right there. I met Rob and Liz many times and take it from me there are no real lyrics just wee bits and pieces of words that sounded right...G...
i love it. first time hearing it but i like it. makes me think about everything in my life right now. even though i don't know what they are say ing i love it.
one of my favorite openers to one of my favorite albums for all eternity;)
I was 20 years old when it came out (VINYL!), I put it on my turntable and my jaw dropped open and stayed that way through every track. I'd never flipped and fallen so hard for any band before (or since). I felt like I was being told the most alt.seductive musical secrets in the world; this album is sublime musical alchemy of the most rarified order. and i still have the vinyl w/nary a fookin scratch!
You my friend had a very special induction to "Cocteau" ! What a lot of people dont understand is that when you have a good turn table, and needle, speakers etc. the music sounded is still does, so much better. You can hear instruments, that you don't hear on C.D.S'. But the point is to hear it on vinyl for the first time is phenomenal. I was 15 when it came out so the first time I heard them was on community radio. But still they grabbed me by the throat and have never let go.
@auteuricon dude, I found that song (and the band for that matter) a couple of mounts ago, and what do U think my reaction was, my name i Ivo too...freakin' jawdropping for sure....love the song love the band...
love this track and album....just dowwnloaded it from itunes and takes me back to my young adult life living in portsmouth and hanging around with some very strange people that loved an alternate lifestyle who were the best friends i ever made and will never forget
I used to list to this album so much when I was a teenager, then they fell off my collection in the change to digital didn’t play anything of theirs for ages, then came across Pearly Dew Drops which got me started again... can’t think why I ever stopped listening to them. Just such good music. I’ve already started downloading every album they ever did!!!
@MegaVideodrome Cocteau Twins aren't Goth, their first two albums were, but their later albums Treasure up to their last album Milk and Kisses borders on Ethereal and Dream Pop Music.
love this track and album....just dowwnloaded it from itunes and takes me back to my young adult life living in portsmouth and hanging around with some very strange people that loved an alternate lifestyle who were the best friends i ever made and will never forget

Actually, i don't think it was gibberish...not until the really heavy heroin years. I remember them on tour with Modern English...must have been in 81-ish. Went to see them in North London early 90's and tried hard not to cry ! She'd not long kicked the drugs i think and every song was a revelation...so much for smack making you more interesting.
I remember buying this album over 20yrs ago! And i still play it from time to time! Can't beat vinyl! What a band these were! My brother seen them supporting OMD back in 1983!
@latzky I beg to differ. Most Cocteau Twins "lyrics" are not in any language. CT is my favorite band of all time, so if there were lyrics, I would know them. Frazier sings gibberish or chants, so does Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance, among others. Please post the lyrics to this song if you say they exist, and we'll consider the matter settled.
I applied to be their Bass player but alas........

The whole point is that you make your own mind up about it Stop looking for answers! There are none.

Elizabeth Frazier sings gibberish! That's why you can't understand it, mate. It's all made up, which is part of the appeal.

Damn, that sounded good! Especially toward the end of the song!
