  • Hard to find better lyrics, that give you a sense of bitterness in this hard life...

  • Correction.....the name of the album is Humans Lib. "Welcome to Conditioning stuck in my head for some reason.

  • My sister got me into Howard Jones back in the 80s. I was of course, being a guitar player, and being in Jr. High and High School, into heavy metal only at the the time. But I always found is music to be deeper and inspiring. HJ is one of my favorite 80s artists! If you've never sat down and listened to a heavy on the keyboard album or CD...I highly recommend listening to Howard's Welcome to Conditioning. It's an amazing album to this day!

  • Officially obsessed with this song

  • One of the finer pop songs ever written... Great memories. Way to go Howard Jones!

  • I'm from a small town in Texas that had a radio station that had a request show on Monday nights. All my friends and I listened faithfully and never missed a show. One night this song was dedicated to me from a boy I liked and who liked me....this song told our story. Our friends would not let us be together....you know how high school is....your friends opinions were the be all and end all. So sad. :(

  • great song.

  • How many other hard nuts underneath all that secretly enjoy a good old love ballad?! I think its cool, to be who you are, not what everyone else wants you to be!! Thats freedom!!! Love this song!!!

  • simmons!

  • I just want to emphasize- when it comes to attraction, and unrequited love, this song is quite true. No one ever is to blame.

  • bella la musica...mi ricordo che l'ascoltavo da ragazzo...quanti ricordi :)

  • This song is totally fabulous, the music , lyrics, HJ's great voice..and Phil Collins doing back up...Perfect

  • When I first heard this song, I thought it was Paul McCartney! : )

  • By the picture of him he could be related to John Lithgow

  • @TheConshuscriterion HJs chin might be a bit more pronounced, otherwise that is totally Lithgow in Raising Cain.

  • For some reason the electric keyboard after the phrase "no one is to blame" reminds me of Night Court.

  • his voice and songwriting have always reminded me of thomas dolby, dolby is just quite a bit more inventive when it comes to production and sounds..

  • Lovet the music

  • #love

  • cool i love music

  • I was to blame. And now she's gone.

  • Reminds me of a Genesis song when I first heard it on the radio I thought it was Genesis but when I read about it I learned Phill Collins produced the radio version and did the drums. Sort of reminds me of the drums in Tonight Tonight Tonight.

  • i was to blame.....but that's another story.

  • The 80's just always seem to go down so smoothe. lol Takes no effort to move my soul!

  • the 80's...good music, good TV, good movies and great times

  • @reklaw78 we had good as teenagers in the 80s...and people who were to blame stood up and took the blame...they didnt blame everyone else...i hate todays world and most of the sickening people in it...wheres doc browns delaurean when u truly need it

  • @ThePass1967 We really did have it good in the 80s didn't we? If we could only go back. lol!

  • @Johnnywhamo we did...if we only knew it then..sigh

  • Thought this was one of the better songs that came out of that era. Completely heartfelt by the artist!

  • @thebent10780 Indeed, as they say, youth is wasted on the young! lol:) I use to LOVE going clubbing and dancing around to this back in the day, man those were some good times!

  • I think this song had Phil Collins on backing vocals and drums

  • This song is comforting, like an audio translation of a big soft blanket.

  • @netpv that's a good way to put it. perfect way actually.

  • Oh yes, Class of 87....De La Salle, concord, ca...this seemed like an anthem...Great song, great memories.......high school punter/kickers never forget #14

  • As an Aussie visiting the States, I saw Howard at the Music Box in Hollywood back in October and he was brilliant.

  • Man, I wish that it is still 1986!

  • @Salfox112 So do I, 18 yrs old and ready to kick someones ass, now 44 and looking for aspirin......LOL...

  • You know, from this angle, he looks a fair bit like Bruce Campbell. Chin and all.

  • @BlueTravesty .. he sure does.... hehehehe

  • Brings back memories of teen love in the hot summer with a special girl I haven't seen In 25 years. thanks for the memory.

  • @dwayne25ism Same for me.......Cant believe 25 yrs is gone....I can almost still smell her perfume......Good times back then....funny hair, I felt that way then too....

  • class song and performer...thanks for sharing

  • great song really sweet

  • Dom't ya just love this song?

  • Brings me back to a better time in life and music.... 80's forever !!!!!!!!!!

  • Growing up never being able to listen to music that I wanted to makes this song even more important to me. I never knew who the artist was until today. I remember hearing this years and years and years ago. It always made me feel peaceful. I had to hide out to listen to the music I liked back in the late 80's and early 90's. It's fun to finally discover who made the music that I loved back then and still do now.

  • Still reminds me of one of the funniest moments of my life. I was 23 in 1986 years old, working for in a inbound Int'l cargo office. There was a huge error that caused a shipment to be returned...nobody wanted to be responsible, and we were all arguing. Suddenly out of nowhere my boss sang out "No one noo-ooo one no one ever is to blame". I still laugh thinking about it. :-)

  • One of the best songs ever.I loved it when it first came out in 86 and still like it today.

  • @jesse0576 WTF? LMAO!!!

  • Howard Jones is so very much popular artist in the worldwide

  • I wonder if Mr. Phil Collins had something to do with this song ??

  • @spacemouse1 LOL, I heard this song on a new local 80s/90s station the other day and thought it had to be Phil on the drums. Almost like Stevie's signature harmonica.

  • For those of you who do not understand what the song is about...I've read some of the responses and some people are wondering....well...the song is untimately about unfulfilled attractions...basically wanting something that's right in front of you but that you can't have...the story of all of our lives.....which is why....no one is to blame....

  • I remember when this song came out in 1986...I was 14....but it's only now that I truely appreciate the brilliance and depth...it has to be one of the greatest songs ever writen and produced....the lyrics alone are so original...and so honest, so true...Trust me,I have a list of many great songs but there's somethng very special about this one....Thanks Howard....You're a talent that never got the true recognition that you deserve....It's a very deep song...but so simple..and that's perfection!

  • This song makes me wanna kill myself.

  • @keithcozz well, nobody would be to blame if you did

  • You can look at the menu but you just can't eat. You feel the cushion but you can't take a seat. You dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim. You can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin.

  • it;s cool..song..:)

  • Meravigliosa musica ...ma ancor più belle le parole ...mai nessun colpevole...eh già.... nessuno la vuol mai la colpa .

Grande pezzo da un grande artista .

    Roberto da Mantova (italy)

  • this song reminds me of losing my best mate.r.i.p mark john donovan taking from us 12/10/87.

  • Sweet stuff from Howard.

  • From an 80's kid...........I was a vicious punk rocker...Dead Kennedys, Black Flag,........Stormtroopers of Death, and....yes Slayer.........yet, I loved HJ......secretly...........such a beautiful song.......there is no shame in such sweetness in your soul.........enjoy it.......please....enjoy this song!!!

  • @jimdoris13 so what where you secretly gay too! LOL just kidding man

  • @jimdoris13 What a great comment :)

  • @jimdoris13 Don't forget Anthrax, ST, Testament, etc.... and Yes this is a killer beautiful song too

  • @jimdoris13 I am glad to hear you say that I was the same as a 70s punk rock kid...but there was something about HJ that was different from alot of other 80s "pop".

  • phil collins co-wrote this and he's also on backing vocals....brilliant.

  • @23jordanian Howard Jones wrote all by himself. Phil Collins produced the recording.

  • @Tolstoy111 ok then,my bad

  • I remember hearing this in 1998 when I was only 6. I would recall my aunt singing the lyrics while she was driving to the local grocery store in Kelowna. I liked it too but it became a faded memory. 13 years later, I heard this song on the Satellite Radio while driving into Kelowna. It rekindled so much of my childhood for some mysterious reason I cannot explain. The crazy thing is, I'm not from Kelowna. But of the few times I happen to travel there, this song would pop up. Crazy!

  • LOVE. I know all of these tunes by heart. He was way ahead of his time, even then. Oakville, Oct. 25, 2011!!!! Oh, I could be there. sigh. Call me, Howard.

  • "It turned out someone was to blame"

    lol

  • It turned out someone was to blame.

  • wtf is this song about? lol

  • Just heard this being played in an episode of Cold Case.

  • Although they tried really hard and still failed, 4 people were to blame.

  • good song, overproduced sound

  • @basehead617 'overproduced sound'? That's what 80's music was all about! Everything got 'overdone' back then. So pleased I was an 80's teenager :)

  • @Chlobet Meeeeeeee toooo!

  • @basehead617 I'm guessing you don't like today's pop music. That's okay; I don't like it either.

  • You Want her....and she wants you ......

  • A really good song from the 80s. The best music of that decade can compete with the best of any other. Great vocals and a great arrangement. Songs like this are easy to listen to, over and over again.

  • THIS SONG GAVE ME COMFORT WHEN I LOST MY BEST FRIEND RIP MARK DONOVAN. SADLY MISSED

  • i wanna find a keyboard player good enough to play this soi can sing it .... i love this song alot...

  • Takes me back to my college daze in the 1980s. Finding a girl you're sure is "the one"....then suddenly realizing that no matter how hard you want it to, it really will never work out. Learned the true meaning of heartbreak then boy-o!

  • memories of my teenage life...great song i love it....i hope someone can explain the true meaning of this song...pls

  • Great song! It's wonderful to hear it again.

  • I love it!!!

  • I woke up at 3 AM hearing this song and had no idea who sang this...but now I know!

  • Making out in the back seats of cars, innocence lost in the mid-80's - definitely so many memories come flooding back when I hear this song. This one and what is love definitely helped define the 80's for me. It's too bad Howard Jones couldn't have put out more songs like this and go on to superstar status. This is deifinitely in my Top 5 ballads of the 80's ...

  • This song brings back SO many memories.

  • Excellent craftsmanship. Buttery smooth fretless bass, soulful electric piano, crisp guitar occupying all of the right spaces, sparkling backing vocals and a rock solid drum track (thanks, Phil!). Tasty!

  • Enjoyed listening to this. Gives me a bout of nostalgia.
