  • Gods Bless the Keepers of the Treasures. Great music will never die.

  • The 3 people that don't like this need serious help.

  • Great vintage recording!

Sounds like they were playing into a tincan at a Louisiana radio station, circa 1930.

    I like it!

  • Thanks for that ..... DgSwede1 .... you have a lot points in haven.....

  • Knofler is one of the greatest... I wish I had seen it live, in the early years.

  • sultans of swing

    nice version

  • awesum:D

  • This is exactly the same version, but before the prodution and all the studio work... Knofler wouln't do the same in every fill or solo lol

  • @lauwalk All of the vocal lines and fills are different. Even if some of them use the same notes, they are played/sang differently.

  • ty 4 this....u have no idea

  • God bless Charlie Gillett. He knew class when he heard it.

  • awsome !!! thanx dude..

  • Suppose this is the version I heard on Radio Luxembourgh,at least sounds same, the rough one..and year was zero.

  • Amazing...77th, i was just one year old, and now, 33 years later I was lucky enough to hear it live. Legendary tune!

  • I had a "Rough trade" tape with a rough version of "sultans..." years ago! Anyone who can help??

  • @8z88z

    maybe here:

    /watch?v=BxagV1SH-PM

  • Sick love it knopfler as a young man he voice is sick trust he did a gig at the bbc in 78 i think ive got that recording he also did the grey whistle test aswell which was a nice premeture version ov this bangin tune

  • I have been trying for years to play this song.

I can't get the fast solo at the end right.

    But I am a plectrum man .

Well done Mark, You have them all beat with this one.

  • It's easy, trust me. just a lof of practice. I had a lot of troubles with this, but if You try and try, I'll can play it ;)

  • @lucabrasi5599

dont be silly, playing the notes is the easy bit

  • try hybrid picking ;) ! !

  • Thanks, DS....Those crying about the sound quality are just....missing The Point. Nice discovery.

  • I've done this score

  • It is the greatest combination (in music) i ve ever heard and that's the reason i started the guitar...i m 23 i believe at 35 i will be able to play it :)

  • thank you DogSwede1 for all those old versions...I've been listening Sultans of Swing since 1979 and still can't get enough!

  • amazing music!!!!

  • What an excellent early version of this great song!

    Thank you so much, Dog!

Mark is by hell the f***ing greatest guitar player of all time! No contradiction! No questions!

    Just listen and enjoy!

  • This version seems to be a bit more evolved and nearer to the later album version than the other demo version here on youtube. Are you sure this is the first?

Great anyway. Thx 4 posting, dude!

  • I can´t find this picture in the web -.-......very good song thanks for uploading

  • Anyone know where this was recorded?

  • in the studio.

  • so true dude !

  • dire straits best band ever even better than led zeppelin

  • Here, Here!!

  • agreed!

  • @saudnasse

no. its a matter of taste dumbass

  • @saudnasse

Whoa, whoa, hold your horses. Dire Straits is an amazing, amazing band, no doubt, but they cannot eclipse the almighty, legendary Led Zeppelin.

  • @saudnasse what complete crap - different styles - different bands - both great in their own ways. Neither better or worse.

  • @saudnasse I love dire straits, but just by you comparing them to Zeppelin says that Zeppelin is the bench mark in which all are compared. Dire traits were good, but no where near the The Mighty Zeppelin.

  • C'est drôle la voix est plus grosse,un peu d'accent . La guitare encore imparfaite mais déja magnifique.

Et des vidéos ou images de 1976 vous en avez ? svp.

  • my idol

  • 1977 - I was 14 years old, now i´m on my way to 46, and i still love this tune !

  • that's actually totally normal and okay... it's nice to see youngsters like myself and other ofcours to respect something that much old.... but that's the real music and real musicians...

if there are any mistakes - sorry! my english isn't perfect :D

  • é simplesmente o melhor(The best ever)

  • MK's voice at this time lol but he was soon so good with a stratocaster, end's solo is great

  • I heard this for the first time on my Tranny van radio in 77 here in the UK...it maybe made about 15 in the chart.. I screamed at the radio..this is too f###ing good for the UK..I was so f###ing right..

  • The end is AWESOME! Thanks!

  • Now, THIS is MUSIC, people! :-)

  • great dude!

  • Thanks a lot DogSwede, this is vintage stuff, nice to hear the beginning of great songs, i guess Sultans of Swing didn't change that much, keep them coming, you're the man!!!

  • Thanks,

    Sharing is caring. :)
