beyonce's version is intended to sound better.  The Dream prob recorded this in like 20 mins and then emailed it to her. Beyonce prob took 2 weeks to record the song. She had to change it up and make it perfect. The Dream will pen her a great song and then its Beyonce's job to make it A HIT!. then her, dream, and tricky (co- producer) split the profits 3 ways.

THE DREAM IS AN AMAZING SONGWRITER AND WORKS WITH BEYONCE ON A LOT OF PROJECTS. THEY ARE WHAT YOU CALL THE DREAM TEAM. HE WROTE SINGLE LADIES AND ONCE AGAIN CAME THROUGH FOR BEY. BEY TOOK THE DEMO AND BROUGHT THE SONG TO LIFE. HER POWERFUL VOICE POLISHED THOSE NOTES AND REALLY MADE THE SONG HIT. THE ORIGINAL VERION OF "IF I WERE A BOY" SOUNDED AMATURE AND LIFELESS, BUT BEY MADE IT A MAJOR HIT. A GOOD SONG IS NOTHING WITHOUT A GREAT ARTIST SINGING IT.

i prefer The Dream's version, voice matches the feeling at the right time. Beyonce's version is fine as well, but she has a complete different type of voice. It problaby depends on which one you hear first, because that version creates the feeling you have with the song.

both of them are good, one is just more for a man's perspective and the Beyonce's is more for the girls... of course girls will relate more to hers because her's more angelic sounding... and the way she sings it gives it a deeper intense meaning
