I think because the Coast Guard is not part of DOD, and most people just don't understand the Coast Guard Mission.

Becoming an AST is really something i am looking into doing once joining the USCG. However, i feel a little intimidated by it. I feel like i am in decent shape and i feel mentally and physically capable of over coming what the training has in store for me. (I think i should always keep that positive mind set). Although i feel physically capable i have been told by a few "friends" that i could not make this rating because i havent been taught swimming proffessionally. Is this true?

this looks really cool. i've been doing alot of research on the coast guard because i plan to join shortly and i've never come across these guys. what do they do? i know they dive but for what purposes?

its not a specific job in the coast guard. you have "a" schools which determine your rate (job). and "c" schools which are specialty. dive school would follow under specialty. it al depends on where you are stationed and what you are doing. you then may get the chance of going to dive school. and maybe only 5 out of the 30 guys in this video are coasties. ther are mainly navy, army and marines

awesome, um, is it true, like the bigining of the rescue swimmer program, that it actuly isnt a CG school, but ran by all of the armed forces? cause theres one pic in there with one guy with a Air Force jacket on, one with a Coasty, and 2 with Army?

rescue swimmer school is all coast guard. but this isn't rescue swimmer school. this is dive school, and yea like the guy above me said it's a blur of all military branches.

@gbh05210 divers do all types of jobs they go and hook up sunken ships and bring them back up to be slavaged or they go under there and repair submariens breachs stuff like that but there are alot more things they do and there are alot of outside miliatary jobs for divers as well

the daisy dukes are called UDT shorts and are worn by all services going through dive training, Seals, Army SF, USAF Special tactics, and Marine recon, Of course Coasties as well. And the school is in Panama City Florida, not Pensacola
