I wouldn't say it's easier, they are just very different. In chess you have all information so if you are better it's a safe bet you will win almost every time. Poker is based on partial information, probabilities so you would need to play much more to find out who is better. The basic rules are simple in poker and of course there is money involved so that's makes it more popular, but when someone plays at the nosebleed levels, then it really becomes a hard game.
