I really like his dancing but somehow he does not represent the "Bournonville" style as well other great Danish dancers such as Nikolaj Hubbe, Erik Bruhn, or Alexander Kolpin. Kobborg can't seem to end his double tours in correct 5th position!! I'd love to see him in a dramatic ballet in which he shows his acting skills which I've been told are incredible!
For the people nitpicking on his double tour prep: it looks (and sounds) to me like the conductor wasn't helping him at all, in any of these variations. All the tempi are much too rushed and you can see in his first variation in the white act that he cuts some of the steps a bit short in order to keep up. Kudos to him for not only doing so, but keeping a pleasant expression on his face...instead of tensing up or giving the conductor death glares.
nitpicking on his position for double tours? really? pathetic. i could pull video from ANY male dancer showing him taking off from worse positions than that. he's a brilliant dancer. 'nuff said.
In September 2001 I was in Moscow ( I live in Moscow) but not much interested in ballet. I've missed so many things and with them this perfomance. Kobborg as James is incredible, he is graceful and fluent , we have no such male dancers in Bolshoi.
haha I totally agree. It's not even a fourth. It's more like a mutated 4th. But never the less, his footwork and lengthening of his freakin' legs are MONEY!!! His ballon is off the hook!
