  • Its such a darn shame that Judy Garland the singer could not be separated from Judy Garland the actress, this film proves shes just not some MGM technicolor songbird girl next door, that she could act, had raw emotion, its a shame and a big disappointment that she did not win an Oscar for this but in the end she really one the Oscar not Grace Kelly cause this role is remembered and this film is so iconic,Judy is such an inspiration to so many people including me.

  • This is my favorite scene in the entire movie.

  • To feel what she felt.. I hear it and feel it now.. and at times when I sing too..

  • There is and was no one like her. Maybe Barbara but they are different and ther is no one like Barbara. They had and have " IT" .

  • @thx11q38z It's Barbra

  • @thx11q38z I know right the only other female who I think that measures up to her Barbra there is a short list of icons left Judy,Barbra etc. I wish we had talent like this nowadays,it does not exist anymore thank God for Barbra and Judy's offspring Liza.

  • So beautiful, it makes me cry.

  • @theproudsquirrel okay, okay she was always brilliant but I would definitely say that some stages were a little better than others and that's what I meant.

  • She had something that was absolutely her own. Nobody today sings a song like this anymore IMO. She was brilliant at one point.

  • @ladyavaleigh she was brilliant 'at one point'? she was always brilliant, tut tut!

  • That hair flip is the best part!!!! Love her!

  • Now thats singing; A true hollywood CLASSIC can watch over & over looks great in widescreen also!!

  • My God....they just dont make em like that no more.

  • Her best performance of a song, next to "Over The Rainbow". Her phrasing is absolutely amazing!!

  • who are the idiots that disliked this??????????

  • You know someone's a star when she doesn't need flashy costumes and bright lights to shine.

  • What are the insturments used in this song? What's the dum dum dum one! She's lovely!

  • Singing starts at 1:10

  • 22/1/1969 Muere la actriz y cantante Judy Garland

  • How ironic that I was watching a documentary told in nothing but still pictures of Judy Garland's life when the man that got away left me?

  • so beautiful yet so tragic :'(

  • epic scene

  • @OliviaMcShaneMusic yup epic scene , it reminds of the scene in Dreamgirls when Jennifer Hudson sings and I am telling you I am not going, this scene gives me goosebumps its like Jennifer Hudson's scene this has got to be one the most underrated Garland songs. Judy knew how to phrase songs ,very underrated and overlooked song.

  • i just imagine Rachel Berry singing this

  • RIP Judy Garland. Amazing voice.

  • Judy Garland is the DIVA!! What a voice and what a lady.

  • This is amazing. I don't care what anyone says, no one else can sing this song as great as Judy did. Thank God we have her to remember what talent is!

  • @kittystolemycookie94 No one can sing this song ANYWHERE NEAR as good as Judy - here is a real singer with a voice that makes these so called divas of today sound like screaming bitches.

  • This is the best scene of the entire movie. Pure Judy. She was one of the great voices of that generation because she felt every note she sang. I could have been that music got her through a lot of tough times.

  • Very nice...

  • Wow oh wow Judy Garland thank you for all the memories. I love her so much shes incredible , I know that story of how she felt that the only film she ever felt beautiful in was meet me in st.louis I have to beg to differ cause Judy was in my opinion her most beautiful here truly beautiful this a star is born is my fave of hers. Wow the oscars snubbed her of an oscar for this performance, Judy was one of a kind.

  • One of the best Harold Arlen compositions, especially created for Judy Garland..

  • @simoncusonnet This and over the rainbow you know its a shame that she is more known for Meet me in st.louis than her perfomance here in a Star is born ,my favorite movie of hers has got to be this performance wise, Grace Kelly did not deserve that oscar Judy did,her voice was so warm in this song always warm and vulnerable. Wow this is the best a star is born out of the three. goosebumps I get hearing this song.

  • WTH does "the livelong night and day" mean??

  • @wattever333 It means the how the days and night seem endless. Livelong=long, endless.

  • One of the best movie songs ever!

  • Judy was an amazing performer and entertainer. Once in a life time!

  • This is the very reason why Garland is the ultimate entertainer. The best of the best

  • One of the greatest songs ever written for a movie:)

  • Oscar or no Oscar, Judy Garland received a number of awards in her life, but she couldn't take any of it with her when she died.

  • I agree with all the previous posters--this is what a true talent looks, feels, and sounds like ! This was the performance that should have gotten her the Oscar ! In this film, she sings, she dances, she jokes, she cries ! She does it all ! She was a star ever since she was a child, but, this film truly makes her an iconic superstar for the ages ! Her legend lives on and so does her talent and voice !

  • you can't top this this is a song from top to bottom pure judy....uncut. no wonder she's still the icon she is

  • beautiful woman, beautiful song, beautiful voice, i can only aspire to be as good as she is, but Im trying to keep music classy (single handedly by the looks of people like lady gaga and cheryl cole)!

  • all ways reminds m of P.S I LOVE YOU

  • Can't get enough of this song! :D

  • Judy was the best there ever was.!

  • @MargeSteckler48

Where Frank was considered "the Voice" , I say she was the "Voice" of the female genre! They two were the voice I feel.

  • BEAUTIFUL..THANKS ..ERIK TIELMAN, FLORIDA..

  • i had a funny dream last night

it was a What If sorta dream

it was if judy garland had never taken drugs

and the dream was me hearing that she died in 2011 :O

we cod have had her dor 42 more yrs

if he damn mother didnt make her train so hard and them agencies forced fed her drugs

  • We tend to be overlooking those fabulous musicians that are backing Judy in this.

How I love the "big band" sound - just look what we have today - mostly junk!!

  • @TheVaughan5 Have a look at this version from The BBC Proms 2011. search - The Man That got Away - Caroline O'Connor PROMS 2011

    The Orchestra is amazing

  • Why cant there be more like her?...

  • The GREATEST entertainer of the 20th century !!!!!!!!

  • Judy garland has been my role model since i was five. And this is why.

  • Have loved this lady's control, skill and just pure presence since my mum first played Meet Me In St Louis to me as a babe in arms. You do not get better then Judy. RIP you beautiful legend.

  • Damn!!!!!!!!

  • No-one sings this song like Judy Garland. Words just cannot do it justice.

  • In two words, in honor of the late, great Frank Barone:

    "Holy Crap"

    or:

    "She's Brilliant."

  • Judy and a Harold Arlen tune...a match made in heaven!! Great performance.

  • Dude, have anyone of you seen THIS video to A Star Is Born??? Friggin' UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL!!!

    /watch?v=dtF8sKz5XBQ&feature=channel_video_title

  • Oh. My. Word. <3

  • Classic song, classic arrangement classic Judy Garland.

  • Breath taking, from start to finish

  • this showcases her amazing talent beautifully!!!! one of a kind!!!

  • P.S. I Love You.

  • She gives me goosebumps..No other female singer does that. x

  • I could watch her sing this all day. Love the movie. Greatness.

  • I have chills. God. I love her.

  • take it from the top <3

  • Wonderful irreplaceable Judy. Heartbreaking.

  • Stunning.

  • Do you see a dislike bar? Ya me neither.

  • simply the best!!!!

  • indeed, as another user commented, sublime. there's no better word. this cannot be matched or eclipsed.

  • Who in their right mind would call Judy Garland fat or ugly? Well they forced her to use diet pills and thats how she got addicted to pills. R.I.P. Judy you will always be in my heart and over the rainbow.

  • A sublime genius in a simple blue dress. An electrifying performance for the ages.

  • AHHHHMEN PETER!!!

  • Absolutely magnificent !! There are no words for talent like this !!!

  • they shot this scene about 6 different times, with different lighting and with different costumes/sets coz they wernt happy with how it came out! this was their final go at it, sometime toward the end of shooting! so glad they chose this style....its perfect....moody, slightly sombre and not to flashy so that you get distracted from Judy's AMAZING voice :D pure class every tme!

  • Judy Garland is the best singer! But she has seen a final ending. Her daughter is amazing, but she isn't as good as her :)

  • This song and this part of film "A star is born" appeared in film "P.S. I love you" so maybe more people will appreciate Judy Garland and more people will get know about her.

  • @aleksandra14

    That's how I found this song.....love it.

  • How does this only have 241,642 views?

  • she sang the HELL outta that song

  • This woman was and always will be an INCREDIBLE talent.

  • ol school saucy!

  • I love Judy she is amazing, but it is a little unfair to say there is no talent like this today. Idina Menzel is amazing, you have male's like Alfie Boe and John Owen Jones. These are amazing performers. Like seriously amazing, I am also a huge Barbra Streisand fan. Oh and we cannot forget the goddess that is Miss Celine Dion!

  • ah, a time when women didn't have to look like sluts to be considered beautiful....

  • She really should have won the oscar for this!

  • THIS is what actual talent looks like. No mega-bands, no half-naked dancing boys, no fireworks, no pyrotechnics, no see-through outfits, no bizarre outfits. Just a few instruments, low lighting, and a voice that makes all of today's 'singers' look like no-talent hacks.

  • @PeterFormaini

Today's singers need to look and listen at the master and learn how it's all done. Judy Garland had REAL talent and didn't need to hide behind any kind of façade that today's singers do. But what I can't believe and am really shocked at is that the public is buying these "so-called" singers albums and paying money to go see them lip-synch to a song from their album or with them using autotune--it's ridiculous! All Judy needed was a microphone and with that the magic began.

  • @PeterFormaini I wouldn't say all of today's singers... at all.

  • @PeterFormaini Well said!

  • Respond to this video... Wonderful irreplaceable Judy. Heartbreaking.

  • @PeterFormaini and no "wardrope malfunctions" LOL

  • @squarebird58 oopps..."wardrobe"

  • @PeterFormaini Could not agree more!! One of the greatest singers of the 20thc and never so fantastic as in this classic, no current day popular singer would have a chance in hell competing with this!!!!!!!!

  • @PeterFormaini But really, just imagine how much better this video would have been if they had tossed in some half-naked dancing boys and pyrotechnics.

  • @7beers Don;t make me come over there and slap you!! :D :D

  • @PeterFormaini Oh yeah tuff guy? Gonna come over and slap me silly, liver lips? Look, jerky, me and my troupe of half-naked dancing boys are gonna get all medieval on your ass and we'll show you what it's like!

  • @7beers you're my hero for this.

  • @PeterFormaini THANK YOU

  • @gigicd86 My pleasure! :D

  • Nothing is better!

  • she left us with so much awesomeness and her daughter Liza Minnelli sounds exactly like her.

  • The hair flip, perfect and now no prima donna would dare.

  • meh.

  • Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra...neither one the GREATEST VOICE. But nobody

could interpret a song with their FEELING! Thanks for sharing this.

  • @haiyuj so true, the singers back in their day actually new how to interpret songs unlike the singers of today in my opinion!

  • @kimpunkrock

I agree 100%! Judy belonged in an era where singers had talent! She belonged in an era where singers knew how to sing, how to deliver and sell a song, how to interpret a song, and it was a time when singers didn't need to write their own music (unlike today where it's made such a big deal) because within this golden age of songwriting we had outstanding songwriters like Harold Arlen, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, and many many others.

  • It doesn't get any better than THAT !! THE best song ever sung/ recorded on film ...Period !! xo

  • hands down my favorite Harold Arlen song, BUT my fave song in probably one of the best movies ever. Now for the love of... let's release this movie with no weird takeouts of photo clips. smooth and seamless would be good. this movie is IT!

  • @amydahdah If only they would find the footage!

  • This movie is so good, James Mason is also so good in this.

  • Unparalleled brilliance.

  • That is EXACTLY the problem with your point of view. Why do you have to look at COMMERCIAL artists when there are so many others outside the mainstream spotlight who are more about substance than flash. And they are damned excellent. Get off the beaten path and especially the commercial artists.

  • BEST.SONG.EVER... JUDY FOREVERRR <3 <3 <3

  • I consider myself an OK karaoke singer, not brilliant. I'd have a go at most songs. Over The Rainbow being one example, but not this. I can't follow the changes of mood and melody, even though the tempo is constant. Judy Garland doesn't so much sing it, as grab it and run off with it, and not letting anyone else get a look in.

  • Judy is a goddess, a deity, a REAL star.

  • Oh yeah EVERYTHING sucks now, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Why can't people just enjoy talent old AND new. There is actually a lot out there now if you just get off your ass and look for it. Check out any old performer on YouTube and you get somebody saying that talent is dead. Get a grip and look for it.

  • @unclebobunclebob You're right when you say that as the generations continue the arts keep changing and it has continuously gotten more and more "pop", however there WAS a time (this song being a wonderful example) where popular artists relied on their MAGNIFICENT talent, unlike now where they rely on "image" and 'sexiness". There are talented people today, that's for sure. But too much has been lost in order to make things more and more commercial.

  • Thanks for posting, love this, but ugh, it's the wrong aspect ratio.

  • no one can even TOUCH judy. god she's good. check out my cover on my channel - will never be judy standard obviously, but i've done my best!

  • Judy's song for sure, incredible talent! Love this! Sad movie, but the songs and the end are worth it all.

  • Judy's song for sure, incredible talent! Love this!

  • This is Judy's song....all the way !....thanks for posting.

  • Amazing...I love this song!

  • Judy at her finest..one of the most tragic love stories on film..mason and garland are spellbinding..it breaks your heart to see this man fall apart and see her fall apart watching him do it...

  • No one can dare touch this woman's boots.

Today's phony, contrived "singers" are not worthy to even lick a small piece of ground upon which this woman walked for even the smallest minute of her life.

  • Judy sets the standard, there's no doubt about it. But listen to Diana Krall -- she's awesome and is 'current.' All is not lost. She does such beautiful stuff.

  • It's a fucking shame Hollywood ruined her. She was gorgeous and had to deal with pricks telling her she was too big for show business. Such talent wasted.

  • i can't help adoring this scene. reminds me of the good times <3

  • This song will haunt me for the rest of my life. (that's a good thing) ;P

  • Damn, I wish there was a total Star package like Judy on the scene today. Super Star!

  • man ....judy is voice is as powerful as a hurricane !!!

  • @BALLYJUNKIE Absolutely. And the amazing thing is that even as she is singing at FULL VOICE, she is still in COMPLETE CONTROL of her voice. Who else can do that???

  • Take that Brittany Spears!

  • @RImusclebear i agree that today doesnt have any talent! haha but britney is actually an exception...her producers make her sing in a "baby" high pitched voice....her real voice is quite deep and classical kinda like judy...listen to this song of britney's real voice: /watch?v=iwJgrng2DNk and it was recorded in 2007♥

  • @MoxieLiveAction I agree that you that deep down Britney has true talent, when you brush away the tacky packaging.

  • @7beers me too!♥

  • This a work of genius that will never be equaled! It just happened, It was a one take, as was her style!

  • Beautiful. I wish she was alive so I could tell her that.

  • Judy Garland died for my sins!!

  • THE Greatest song ever sung on the Silver Screen ....Period !! xo

  • Love this song, she pulls you through such emotions that it isn't just a song but an experience.

  • powerful

  • the one and only judy garland

    how we miss miss you

    rip

  • Academy Awards doesn't mean anything. She can't take it with her after death, but she will always be remembered for her talents in musicals, films and stage.

  • Judy was robbed of the Academy Award,

  • @Yennerf i am 14 years old, and to be honest, i love judy and inspire her and this era so much, if only i was around when she was... i love the wizard of oz, + any musical she may have been in, what a fantastically beautiful woman she was!

  • I get goosebumps every time I listen to this. She put so much emotion into all of her songs and it just adds to her outstanding vocal abilities. Bravo!

  • Judy is the ONLY one who can sing this song with such passion, emotion and empathy, enough to convince us that it's what's happening to her.

  • @HanzeUK There is young woman from Ireland, Jessy Buckley that came very close on the" I'd do any thing" BBC show.

  • @jcrobso seen her do that and thought she over-acted too much, with her facial expression, too much of the " Sylvia Young School" method, methinks. Compare the vocal talents and you'll see that Judy is MILES better.

  • no one is as talented is Judy Garland was, rest in peace, wish you were here now!

  • I love this song

  • I wish I could sing as amazing as her

  • This is what I called the movie magic. Simple but powerful

  • Jessie Buckley did an AMAZNG cover of this! Its the best thing I've ever heard.

  • Fantastic perfomance by the great Judy :-)

  • Quite simply, the best.

  • i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e.

  • And look! The entire song is done in one take...beautifully set-up, lit and shot, perfectly animated by Garland, not one false move.Incredible!(By contrast, notice how in "Chicago" the editing was dumbed-down to the MTV mentality that rules, and you can''t quite get a grip on any of the numbers, so chopping are they). Pity.

  • @eldiran2 Agree with you about the Chicago numbers, eidiran, that you can't get a grip on any of them. Good description. By contrast, this great number from "A Star is Born."

  • @eldiran2 i would have to say i disagree with you. the time in film was different and i am in love with judy garland she is absolutely fabulous. but i love the way chicago was directed because it was directed that way for a purpose not to chop things up.

  • @bluespoon14 The '
