We watched a very large one at a local garden center accidentally swallow a small minnow and spit it back out. The poor minnow flew out twisting and turning and finally righted itself and swam away. Don't know whether it was saying, "Wheeeeeeee!!!!!!" or "Heeeeeeeeelllllpppppp meeeeeeee!!" the koi was definitely saying, "Bleck!!"

@SuperQuickStick I think you should buy another filter. I have 2 small kois in a 55 gallon tank with 2 20-30 gallon filters in there with no rocks. The bottom stays pretty clean.

Wow thats worse than my dads pond outside, all the fish are doing who knows what now since its winter, but during the summer, even if its the mail man they will be like " FOOOD NOW!!!!!!!" we actually lost an expensive one last year because it was so energetic for food it went out of the pond and, "beached" itself on a rock, kinda funny but we lost a koi that was worth 300 bucks

in some country's carpfish are a normal thing to eat. but not the coloured varieties,

these fish have bin bred in japan, and are 50 to 100 CM long.

this tank is in a store in holland. and the fish will cost you 500 to 10.000 euro's.

and for the rest btw.People used to eat koi.the word koi is japanese for carp.the old japanese rice farmers used carp 2 eat them and put them in the ricefields 2 keep the bottom good.then they found that the regular carps started to develope colour mutations.they called them Nishikigoi what in fact coloured carp means. they kept them coz they looked nice and started breeding them seperately. till they became what they r now.
