  • Thank you so much for posting, I am in tears to see her sing such beautiful aria, I agree with most of you she is the perfect Nanetta. Not only she does the last phrase in one breath "le fate, hanno percifre, i fior" : Fairies have for alphabet flowers" they do when she is singing ,most magical piannisimo Bravissima

  • @HeidelbergSoprano It's been a while but she sang Alice Ford I'm 99% sure. :)

  • with moffo, who cares about callas?!

and oh look at her nose =P

  • absolutely perfect!

  • The only singer to match this was Battle live i 1985, its on my account. These two are by far the best at this.

  • And who else in the world could ever sing that last phrase without breathing??? It's totally extraordinary.

  • End of all discussions! MOFFO was simply one of the greatest singers ever.

What a fine document , so nostalgic, with the voice of an angel. Almost heavenly.

  • Is this Anna Moffo in her pre-nose job days ? If you look at her in the 1950's, she looks completely transformed in the 1960's & 70's. She got a nose job, and surprisingly her voice did not change. She has a glorious voice here. Her Verdi is quite good- Violetta, Desdemona, Nanetta. This is a nice treat. Wonder how she got away with still having a great voice despite a nose job.

  • She recorded the role with Gobbi, Panerai, Alva, and Schwarzkopf under H. Von Karajan in 1957. It's a wonderful recording and this excerpt is superbly beautiful.

  • Have to concur, I was a Moffo fanatic way back, but I'm always among the first to point out when she's off her mark. Certainly not here. Her rendition of this aria remains unsurpassed in my experience, truly gorgeous. Thanks for posting, I'll have to get the DVD.

  • Oh my good. No one does is better . Moffo is just so delicate and moving.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • what happens to the audio from 00:17 to 00:20 ?

  • It steps up to better quality I think.

  • agree with everyone. I've seen and heard lots of versions of the aria (by Freni, Bonney, Wise, Dal Monte, Gheorghiu....), and this one remains the best to me, absolutely. And... Taddei as Falstaff??? Favourited. ^^

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Her voice is so warm and bright, powerful yet delicate. She was as great as a singer as anyone -- a class onto herself.

  • this song is sublime and so is th performance

  • I agree with mrrk, noone has sung this aria more beautifully. The recording with Karajan is even more exquisite.

  • She looks kinda like Olivia Hussey here.

  • TRUE!!!!!

  • Bella divina! BRAVA!

  • I could feast on this opera for the rest of my life. thank you again for posting this.

  • although there are pretty beautiful version to here on youtube, this is a very interesting one: it seems the most "italian" to me; the voice is silvery and slim and one feels she still comes out of the belcanto school: great!!!

  • Thank you for upload this video. Could you please upload more of Falstaff? I really like this version. But I don't know where to get it at here (China)

  • beautiful....no other recording sounds this beautiful!!!!!!!! brava la moffo

  • thank you, thank you, thank you. Falstaff is the greatest opera and this scene and music is among Verdi's best. Thankfully Serafin is conducting here and not vonKarajan, who seemed to conduct this deathly slow- not at all the 'quicksilver' as suggested by Toscanini.

  • Moffo was the perfect Nanetta. No one since has this aria like her.

  • @mrrk Hmm... Battle, Freni and Janowitz made some very good efforts...
