Yes, he did. To this day I can't figure out how Robert managed to scream that loudly for that long without cracking his vocal chords in half. His performance is what elevates this scene to one of the best cinematic death scenes in the history of motion pictures.
Sadly, Robert was not even nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Though the film won four Oscars, none of the lead actors in Jaws was nominated for anything, and in my eyes that is a travesty.
i watched this with my dad when i was 7 and he said, "that's exactly what happens when you're an asshole" at Quint's death. So, every time i went to swimming lessons i had to evaluate myself if i was a good the past week. I quit pretty soon after that.
I saw this movie when it first came out and left the theatre with the jitters. I never even looked at a BATHTUB with the same eyes again! One of my all-time fav movies!
@SincerestTester I know! I always have to swim underwater in the 'deep' end of the pool, so I can see what is beneath me, lol. In the 'shallow' end I am fine.
surly he could of excaped that though or is he panaking to much becuase surly its not that slippery or is it just me somebody tell me if im right or wrong and why
omg,.....ou are supposed to take your fingers and push them into both of the sharks eyes and he willlet go. people that fish for sharks should know this in case the worst possible thing happens
My question is, what is behind the shark? becaues it does not have a tail, meaning its a mechanical shark, but they never showed what was behind the shark.
@ssbbfan21656 "Jaws" certainly walked a razor-thin line between a "PG" and an "R" rating back in 1975. Spielberg actually had to make some necessary cuts (especially in the gory Alex Kitner death scene) since an "R" would've been a severe liability for audiences and box-office potential. The "PG-13" certificate wasn't created until 1984, which was due to controversial violence levels found in Spielberg's own "Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom" & "Gremlins" raising parental ire that year.
lol I can't get over the made visuals , lol I can't believe my mom thought this shit was scary , I mean I get the effects around that time was bad , but come on
@HALraza you are right about cgi being horribly fake and sucky, and never looking real, bring back old animatronics, they actually look real, they aren't perfectly smooth with no texture and look like they're glued onto the screen
that's a shame! I've seen this film a bajilion times, and yeah it is scary, and I have been linked with people who have had their close ones killed by sharks, but I still maintain a strong respect and admiration for both the ocean and these animals....anyone who believes in finning should die
@CrazySailor1637 no shit? its fake?? damn , i used to love this movie, but ...now ...i thought the shark was real ...fuck...steven tricked me, damn jews...for real now: watch deep blue sea and see how fake the sharks are. looking horrible compared to this one. and this is 30 years before this obvious cgi crap
@carig121 This shark looks as good as the day I first saw this film to me, infact the shark looks fairly real the moment its head emerges from the water
This scene affected me so badly as a kid that I was physically sick to my stomach for days. Quint's screams have haunted me even to adulthood and my stomach still roils when I watch this scene. Epic!
I liked this movie, I just didn't like all the stereotypes it pursued. Like this one. A shark would never hop onto a boat and eat someone alive. People should also know that we kill sharks more than they kill us. that is all.
poor Capt. quint.....he did not deserve to die this way :(
What was it that Captain Quint always used to sing?
"farewell and adieu to you fair spanish ladies, farewell and adieu to you ladies of spain, for we've received orders for to sail back to boston, and so never more shall we see you again."
Farewell and adieu Captain Quint.......and greet me the spanish ladies ;)
@MrMendezy Nah he gets a hold of him by the legs, then chomps and gets him around the mid section and finally takes a bite where the teeth go through his chest.
When is was 10 i got forced to wacth this bit and now im scared to go in the sea, but i like wacthing the shark die in 1,2 and 4, jaws 3 hasnt got cherifey rodey in it has it?? X
This is classics. When I watched that scene for the first time, I was about 10-11 years old. I cried because that was too much for my psychic. I still admire this scene as one of the most naturally pictured death scenes ever.
Jaws was one of the first films to break the barrier for film-related violence. After this came Halloween in 1978, another example of changing the way films were made. It's like our generation, viewing something like the remake of Halloween now, and in 10-15 years time, that will be nothing. I'm almost afraid of how far it will go. I can take some violence, but I almost walked out of the theatre when I saw the remake of Halloween!
The original scene was supposed to show the whole death take place, meaning that after the scene where quint spits up blood, the shark rattles him around for, maybe, 5-10 seconds more and then pulls him under. The problem was that this film was produced in 1975; in this time, something like this would have been the same as showing Dorothy get hacked to death in Oz. No one even imagined a scene like this one in any movie. It was very new.
