how can i play that i think that you have to have that gift to play...i play guitar since 16 y0 now 39 i took classes play use the internet and i can´t play like that
Great stuff! Man if I could play as effortlessly as you..... I guess we all must press forward from where we are and try to improve. One question: Of all the things you have done over the years to become a better guitarist, what the top three things you did that seemed to bear the most fruit?
Transcribing solos? Music theory? Memorizing "licks"? Arpeggios?
I play a lot and practice a lot, but I don't seem to make much progress.
(please feel free to check out my videos and critique.)
Thanks so much! Wow, that's a big question... The bad (and good) news is that the answer is already in the question: I do/did all the above and more. I like your first statements there about pressing forward from where we are, that's all there is really... Thanks again, Jake
Thank you! Please subscribe and rate if you don't mind. This is an Ibanez AG75, quite an inexpensive but excelent guitar. In this case I just plug in direct to the computer, not even a preamp. Normally, live I use Yamaha DG amps. Thanks again!
I'm very impressed, but you should get a little crazy when you're playin, I could just listen to you playing and draw the conclusion that you're not banging your head or stomping (if they'd edit the stomps out).
Thanks! I'm not sure I should be mentioned in the same sentence with those guys... Nevertheless, I do have an instructional DVD showing how I play this arrangement if interested.
I have'nt purchased any of your vids yet, but quite impressed with your playing. My issue always has been memorizing something which takes weeks on end . then forgetting it a few months later. It's better if you know how you came up with the chord melody or whatever it is yoru teaching?
Thanks! I think memorizing lines and arrangements is a very important first step to play in this style, I certainly did that. I have a DVD lesson showing exactly all my approaches to playing this track. It's very comprehensive, I'm certain you'll enjoy it. Let me know if interested. Thanks again!
Have you studied jazz guitar formally (like at an institution) or did you just practice alone/jam with friends? Im really knocked for 6 dude, you have some of the best guitar videos on youtube, keep it up!
Thanks, this is a great compliment! The answer, as you can imagine, is a bit more boring, which is that I have just been practicing and performing nearly non stop for 25 years...
I've seen alot of your vids. Of course I'm not the first person to state that you're an excellent musician.
I just wanted to say, it's never too late to become famous!
There's this guy who got in the Late Night Show because he was able to make songs by "handfarting", they saw him on Youtube!
It's not like I can predict the future, but I think there are still big things to happen for you. Just you wait! (and keep your eyes open while you do).
of course i love joe too, but i'm going to respectfully put lenny breau at #1! (don't get me wrong....i spent - spend, many hours with my nose in joe's books). i met joe at one of his last bay area gigs, got a photo with him, and he was very kind and took the time, despite being sick. i met joe diorio and he told me joe rarely practiced, would go weeks without playing, then pick it up and shred!
Top-notch playing Jake, great walkin bass, voicings and a concept of total Jazz guitar in the Joe Pass, no Jake Reichbart tradition. Is your family from Germany? Realy loved this one, you're a fantastic all-round player, cheers Vic.
Thanks Vic, I really do appreciate it! I seem to upload 3-4 videos of the same type around the same time, keep an eye out for several classic jazz standards to come next. Obviously, I have spent years listening to Joe Pass, the absolute master of this style, I have a very long way to go if I even get there at all. My father was Polish but from German ancestry, hence the name.

Awesome, Reichbart! This is exactly the kind of fingerstyle jazz playing I'd like to be able to do.
I've added your stuff to Pass', Taylor's, Greene's and Kessel's to study and copy.

For heaven's sake! Why did you have to post this inimitable splendid blues in G?

Thanks a lot for giving your talents and muse all the room they need Jake.
