We must remember, there are less than a 1000 Siberians alive, and studies have proven far less in the wild. Those are the largest type of Siberian, not the ones who are living in capivity. How could we really compare the size of large cats with the Siberian when their are so few of them alive? Besides, this not the point. The moral of the story is the Siberian Tiger has survived thousands of years in some of the harshest climates, politcal and social injustices without much assistance.
I don't think there is a more complete representation of a carnivore on Earth today. They can grow up to some say 900 pounds, run up 30 mph, very light and agile on their feet. They have huge teeth, enormous paws, and probably the most beautful animal to look at. They have an almost mythical element about them. How in the world could anyone ever want to harm such a creature. I believe they are one of God's real miracles.

Another fact you need to look at is that the largest Brown Bear ever documented killed by a Tiger was a youngster female at 170 kg. She was killed while hibernating. On the other side there are several cases of large and fully grown male Tigers killed by Brown Bears in food disputes.

A bear is powerful, but is not a great predator, so he is the one who has more to lose. It's not about what the tiger can do since it is the best living land predator, it is about how far can these animals go when they are hungry/angry. This is what differences them from the other felids. Without humans, they'd be top of the chain everywhere.

It is highly unlikely that even the siberian tiger would choose to attack a full grown brown bear. Especially a male. And when I say a brown bear I mean Kodiak bears. They would avoid each other. Perhaps a siberian could kill a female brown bear and vice versa. Males are simply too powerful and could break a tigers spine even though it has the ability to stand up on it's hind legs in similar fashion to bears.

@bukowski1950 true, very true. tigers are incredible hunters and killers. on the other day, nobody seems to bother explain on what occasion they kill the bears, and if/when then bears kill tigers also. that is the wild world, any prey can get killed. a full grown male lion may also be killed by a single hyena if the lion. but that's only when the lion is completely sick. same stuff with bears. especially, the style of tiger's killing is ambushing.
There's totally no proof they "frequently" "prey" on adult brown bears. Maybe they fight with juvies and win, but this is not found often in the scientific literature. There was one case where a male brown bear followed tiger tracks to steal the meal away from the tiger. Bears have no fear of tigers at all. Tiger would have to be a huge, very strong male to take on an adult brown bear. And that's rare if probable at all.

Size and bite are much greater factors than style.......as for style.......tigers tend to paw swipe and grip prey to get a bite in.........not going to work well against an angry 1,000 lb brown bear. Bear's wrestle the prey down, pinning it to get a bite in. Bears also have much thicker hide than lions or tigers, further protecting their huge body and bones from blows. Tiger and bear at the same weight......I choose tiger. Simple.

They CAN kill an adult brown bear if they come from behind, or catch them by surprise, but 7-8 times out of ten i would say the bear would win a face-to-face fight. The grizzly bear is the closest animal there is to a true monster.

Btw, "The Siberian Tiger Project" has weighed wild Tigers in Siberia since 1992. And still is 206 kg the record. Another fact you need to look at is that the largest Brown Bear ever documented killed by a Tiger was a youngster female at 170 kg. She was killed while hibernating. On the other side there are several cases of large and fully grown male Tigers killed by Brown Bears in food disputes.

The African Lion weight average for males is usually smaller. As for the Duba Swamp Lion, all I have found from a possible reliable source is that the female lions subspecies are as large as the male lions. So far I haven't found a solid source as to their weight.

There has never been documented a Tiger killing a normal sized Brown Bear larger than that. And male Brown Bears are the undisputed kings in Siberia. They even follow Tigers in spring in order to claim their prey. Not much Tigers can do about it but to go hunting again. Remember the Bears in this area seldom reach 250 kg.

A bear is powerful, but is not a great predator, so he is the one who has more to lose. It's not about what the tiger can do since it is the best living land predator, it is about how far can these animals go when they are hungry/angry. This is what differences them from the other felids. Without humans, they'd be top of the chain everywhere.

It is highly unlikely that even the siberian tiger would choose to attack a full grown brown bear. Especially a male. And when I say a brown bear I mean Kodiak bears. They would avoid each other. Perhaps a siberian could kill a female brown bear and vice versa. Males are simply too powerful and could break a tigers spine even though it has the ability to stand up on it's hind legs in similar fashion to bears.

Tigers are powerful animals yes, but remember interspecific conflict is between two PREDATORS, and conflict is relatively rare but when it happens, bear usually dominates....unless it's a small bear.

Neither bears nor tigers regularly take each other on, but when they do, bear usually dominates according to wildlife experts. Show me ONE instance of a tiger taking down a fully brown male brown bear. Marvin here is depending on old, unconfirmed sources that contradict the usual laws of the wild---size wins.

There's totally no proof they "frequently" "prey" on adult brown bears. Maybe they fight with juvies and win, but this is not found often in the scientific literature. There was one case where a male brown bear followed tiger tracks to steal the meal away from the tiger. Bears have no fear of tigers at all. Tiger would have to be a huge, very strong male to take on an adult brown bear. And that's rare if probable at all.

Size and bite are much greater factors than style.......as for style.......tigers tend to paw swipe and grip prey to get a bite in.........not going to work well against an angry 1,000 lb brown bear. Bear's wrestle the prey down, pinning it to get a bite in. Bears also have much thicker hide than lions or tigers, further protecting their huge body and bones from blows. Tiger and bear at the same weight......I choose tiger. Simple.

They CAN kill an adult brown bear if they come from behind, or catch them by surprise, but 7-8 times out of ten i would say the bear would win a face-to-face fight. The grizzly bear is the closest animal there is to a true monster.

@killercro55over i'd agree but a bear mostly has fat, and a tiger can withstand rain of blows also....tiger is better served ambushing from the rear but even in a full-on-encounter it would possibly dominate due to its agility, speed, reflexes and own stunning weight.

@rabbilsikdar hence why i said that i believe it CAN kill a grizzly. but my opinion stands that bear would win more times than not. speed is a very big misconception when it comes to bears. they can run almost as fast as lions, and they have great reflexes for their size. a 48 sec bear fight vid on metacafe shows great speed and aggression. there are possibly some on youtube idk. but don't conflict with idea that it would be an amazing fight to watch.

@AAljin A few guns wouldn't save him if they attacked. They'd be on him in a second and would have ripped at him before a gun was raised and fired, assuming even then that it was a single kill shot. I think he's just had very good advice about their habits.

i garentee if them tigers killed that man, they would have been killed, humans interfere with animals, and then when animals react with a natural instinct (to kill) animals get blamed, i mean if it was up to me , if animals kill humans, (e.g humans gerrin close) id render then animals to be untouched, and NOT hunted and killed
