  • Every now and then I come and watch this video to remind me of my own grandmother who died but I never got to video her singing. I feel joy to think that one day when I make my journey home I will be greated by garifuna relatives that look like this granny here, singing and welcoming me home by the sea of eternity.

  • Garifuna nuguya

  • sad that such a beautiful and uniqu language like garifuna is not being spoken as much by younger generations same is going on with the maya languages ....

  • I love this woman.... God rest her soul in peace. We have to be PROUD of our Garifuna culture and language. You're right Auntie Maudie

  • The ancestors do not rove. They coarse... in our veins. If you are alive, you carry ancestral flow. God, after all, sent ancestors to populate the Earth. How can we accept God and reject his emissaries?

  • Aw, this is nice! She's an ispiration...

I like my name better now! ^.^

    (My name is Marcela, too.)

  • keimoun numa, numadugunu alowe checheche.

I love Garifuna, i love Hopkins, i love punta... greetings to all, Blondy, feye

  • like me i'm so at times get embarrass, because i was born in orange walk and raise in dangriga by my grandmother, who speak gariguna to me all my life, all my family is garifuna, but i can't even speak it to my children who at times tease me about it,it's really sad. i wish i can learn how to speak it fluently.

  • You can I learned when I was 17. Set your mind to it ask God and your ancestors for help and nothing will be impossible.

  • i'm sorry about the ancestors thing, but i don't believe that my ancestors are roving around in heaven etc. however, i do believe in GOD.

  • I couldn't agree more with Marcela. Most of us don't speak the language of our fathers, not because we can't but because we don't take the time to learn it. I've been fortunat enough to retain it. I'm trying my best to pass it on to my kids as my parents did with me and my siblings. Mabuleidawamei wanaciun nidujenun. Kei larienguni Andy P, chuluha dan lun lareidahon...lun laroufudahon...

    RIP Andy Palacio

  • Binaru umada-wuh. Mosu wapantaha woungua lidan wanasiun, wererun, walagante. Sugugudawamei kei wabihini hamagien wayunagu.

  • I think Marcela is still singing. I hear it in my heart. :)
