  • Thomas, how much I wish you could read my message. Thank you so much for your video. I used to hate myself for being gay, tried to take my own life when I was a teen. Now I am completely content and accept myself. It does get better. A hell of a lot better. You're an inspiration - smart, sweet, and incredibly handsome. You're a beautiful guy.

  • that was GREAT!

  • You are our HERO! Sharing your story is so helpful to other gay people. Thank you for being you and being out with such passion.

  • Takes all kinds of gay.

Maybe this way people will get that gay people are, first and foremost... people.

  • If he were on msnbc at night, I would turn cable back on. Great soothing voice. His biography has got to be interesting.

  • I love Thomas, smart, articulate and very handsome!

  • Why in this two minute video has he not once uttered the words 'gay' or 'lesbian?' Had I seen this clip out of context I wouldn't have known he was talking about us. To merely say LGBT is not enough. This is a message 'straight' out of the closet.

  • @Michaelmario2 Maybe for the same reason Anderson Cooper is gay, everyone knows it, and he KNOWS that everyone does, yet still doesn't directly acknowledge it.

  • @SWLinPHX There are strong rumors here in Washington that he is coming out in the next few months. I work next to CNN in a government office and wish I could say I've seen him when he has made trips to the CNN D.C.'s studios, but I've asked the people in the tiny little CNN deli. They all said he was very down to earth - very nice guy. He'll come out... give him some time.

  • @dsindc Oh yes, I know he is. I'm not berating him just giving an example of news anchors that don't try to hide or deny they're gay, but don't openly discuss or admit to it either.

  • @SWLinPHX OK. I hate to say it, but on the other hand...Thomas Roberts.. He has lived in the ' Tidewater " area about 3 hrs from here (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, etc.), and has lived in D.C. also. He had a reputation for being just a bit of a jerk - very full of himself. I know someone who claims at least, that Roberts came up to him in a bar and askd "so are you gonna buy me a drink?" But who knows. Then again, if you looked like that, it would be tough not to be a bit arrogant.

  • @dsindc Well let's be fair to Mr. Roberts. That pick-up line can be just a joke and without context you can't draw conclusions from it. Also, celebrities or anyone with a public profile have basically three personas: the one they project on camera or publicly in broadcasts or media, the one they have personally with family & friends, and then the one with the public who can be intrusive in everyday lives where they are not as careful or tolerant knowing they are not on camera.

  • @SWLinPHX That's an excellent point and I agree. Hard to believe but the gay ghetto in D.C. is about 6 blocks from the White House, and there is (let's just say) a bit of attitude here too. Bobby Gant (queer as folk), went to law school here also - and in fact practiced law for a few years. For what it's worth, he evidently was an amazingly down to earth guy, and now is something of a community activist (gay elder care). So who knows. We'll hope for the best. Cheers.

  • @dsindc I hear ya. I still work frequently on film & TV sets in L.A. so I've had my share of celebrity behavior in person, some much friendlier than others, LOL.

  • Great job. Very inspiring. And Thomas is very sexy and smart.

  • Great as a trained broadcaster. Tight little suicide story fits in there. HIt the mark perfectly on time limitations and message.

  • He is so hot and so sweet. I love him so much!

  • thomas, you awesome

  • Thomas you are nice :) all bullying is wrong.

  • i just learned he was sexual abused by a priest.

one in 3 girls and one in 5 boys

  • Thomas: You have more supporters and admirers than you could ever imagine. I know your modesty does not allow you to acknowledge how much you are appreciated and admired but you are. You are so special and a role model for all that is really and truly good about this country. Best wishes and much respect.

  • Probably the best celebrity "It Gets Better" video. Very heartfelt and informative. What an awesome person.

  • Thomas, what an inspiration and a refreshing change you are! Thank you for speaking up. The world needs people like you! To the video poster - thanks for posting this very important and compassionate message.

  • Thomas: Please don't stop. Don't deprive us of you.

Rest of kids being bullied: Don't make us miss you. Stick around. We can't wait to meet you. :)

  • it gets better.. as long as you fit in like Thomas does.

  • @Chslosers Too true friend. Life for a pretty white male like that is much easier. Than someone who is non-white, over weight or not so easy on the eyes. Also I would have had more respect for him if he had spoken out against bullying period (which some celebrities have done) as opposed to just the gay bullying.

  • Thanks for this message.....

  • The media is the world's biggest bully. Mr. Roberts, please be an example for other journalists by not being a bully yourself via your position in media. Media personalities can be an enormous influence against this seemingly intractable problem. Always treat newsworthy people with respect and compassion and others will follow media's lead. In the meantime, thank you for your courageous statement, delivered with sensitivity and dignity.

  • Thank you Thomas! We all need hope and inspiration from visible people in our life.

  • Always thought Thomas was underated as an anchor/reporter... plus classically very handsome!

  • Thanks, Thomas.

  • Thomas, Thanks for speaking out.. We need to get role models to go into the schools and give any child who is bullied, gay or straght, role models to live up to.

How do you fight bullying? Go into the schools.
