I kind of agree with Damphear, but compared to anybody else out there, they were still ultra fantastic. Here we are, the turn of the century, and we're choking on rappers and garage bands. UK were the greatest.
As I live in NYC, I was lucky enough to see UKZ last week. They did this, In The Dead of Night, Alaska, The Only Thing She Needs, and 2 others whose names escape me as I only have their live album.Tony levin's Stickmen opened and they were great also, but no Crimson covers from them.
Oh yes' I also have to add' I think it was good that he and Bruford moved on and did the One of a kind album. I feel that's one of the finest Prog-rock albums of all time.
I remember in 78' buying the 1st UK album' and being so excited' cause I was a big fan of all 4 of the musicians 4 quite a few years' but when I took it home and listen to it' I must say I was a bit disapointed. Sometime's supergroups don't work. As Allan even said; it was Jobson's band. Plain 'n' simple. I'm so glad he moved on. He and Bruford didn't quit' they were fired. They worked togetter' then Allan formed I.O.U. and that gave him chance to really open up in a way u never heard before.
Oh shut it. First off, it's an electric violin. Even Fender makes them now. Second, electric violin has been used in several prog rock bands. You can use any instrument in any kind of music. For instance, George Harrison from The Beatles learned to play the sitar. Rush's guitarist, Alex Lifeson, played the bazouki on their last album. Peter Gabriel of Genesis played flute. Anyway, cutting to the chase, people like you just can't realize that it's not the instrument, but the music!
dbeckster I was commenting a bit sarcasticly to igeorgei comment below mine. I saw this band in 78 in Frisco, and every other band you have mentioned except the Beatles on numerous occations, Hell Gabriel jumped off the stage right on me during his encore back in 80 when he did that kinda shit. I have a great appreciation for Mr. Jobson and this band. I could go on and on. but it would only bore.
LOOKING FOR THE LIVE VERSION PLAYED IN BOSTON BEFORE JOBSON PLAYED WITH THE BAND bILL bRUFORD PLAYED A LIVE GIG BEFORE HE LEFT THE BAND. HE MAKE THIS SOUND AMATURISH
First time I heard of U.K. was behind the "Iron Curtain" (Cuba) (Cold War Era) in a "Samizdat" cassette, I was a teen and this number and "Alaska" turned me into a UK fan.
"Creamed up kitten screaming for her next injection, dead dog in the driveway- protein for infection"- This trio was bad ass. JOBSON-WETTON-BOZZIO. U.K. on the DANGER MONEY TOUR. BOW DOWN BITCHES.
I have gotten into the wayback machine. Are their actual good video versions of U.K. available? I have loved this band since 1978, I have seen them once "1979 opening for Jethro Tull". I am glad their vids are here, but it is kinda creepy seeing what you remembered versus these poor quality vids. Was is really that long ago?

Such a killer song and killer band
...but Eddie Jobson and that STUPID violin!
I guess having the ridiculous talents of BOTH Terry Bozio, John Wetton in your band AND having a killer, balls-out keyboard setup just wasn't enough..."hey, let me whip out my glass violin!"
Great keyboardist on the rest of the tracks on the albums...but what a JACKASS!!!
My friend theres nothing wrong with the violin in the rock music. It is more rare but makes the music more interesting and for example, Kansas without violin isn´t real Kansas. Theres something wrong with those who say *that stupid violin!* Long live all rock violonists!
yeah, her, carrie bradshaw, who also fell out of a tree. people type, clot. and violinist, sounds like streaming down your arms it's so delicious, down in la, still the drippings, just typing, spacetime continuum, out, spot, tiny small violins and vodka and such, such as
Whether with UK or KING CRIMSON or whatever,JOHN WETTON has such an authoritative stage presence its amazing. He is one of the great bass players of all time. JOHN WETTON and the FENDER PRECISION perfect together. Great voice too!!!
Bozzio is great and so often forgotten now, a true master of double bass and clean fills, the new idea of how double bass should be is basically how fast can I go, Bozzio had the sound and the accents and it was as fast as two bass drums ever need to be played.
Amazing that this video exists. The album version (Danger Money) of this song has one of the most moving and powerful song openings I've ever heard. Bozzio was a huge roll model for me as a young drummer.
Wow! Nice. I saw this version of the band open for Tull's Stormwatch Tour. I was blown away by Jobson and Bozzio. Rock violin WHAT?? Of course, Jobson ended up IN Tull on the next album, A.
Amazing Band . their first record is just a masterpiece and is my favourite prog recording of all time . BRUFORD HOLDSWORTH WETTON JOBSON can´t be matched . this was their secon incarnation with monster drummer terry bozzio ( zappa ) . cause jobson/wetton wanted to go into a more commercial style of prog music while bruford/holdsworth went on to form BRUFORD´S BAND wich was also a legendary monster band check out "one of a kind "
Great video it was my first time hearing U.K. material ever and as record collector, next time im at a record expo or something and i see a U.K lp i am going 2 pick it up right away.I just added them as one of the 70s greatest prog band.thanx for uploading this it was good 2 see it & hear it for the first time
UK was an amazing band. Sadly, John Wetton would go on to form one of the worst bands ever (Asia). Nevertheless, this video is the best I have seen of them. The "In the Dead of Night" video is to dull for me, they just stand there. Jobson hasn't been in Crimson yet, maybe they could have a violinist again!
Saw them in Boston in three different venues, Paradise Rock Club, Berklee Performing Arts and Music Hall. All three shows were mindblowing. Of course the Paradise show was their kickoff and is available on CD somewhere online. I had my tape recoreder set up at home on a timer as WBCN was carrying the show LIVE.
Jobson just amazes me. As a keyboardist, I'm in awe of him. As a fusion violinist I'm in disbelief. He's even a good composer. Then, WHY... so little of his stuff?! Green album, two UK albums and Secrets.
I was lucky enough to see these guys for free in Kalamazoo. It was stormy the whole day untill they waked on stage then the sun came out & they played for close to 3 hrs & it was told that you could hear it 5 miles away. Eddie do another solo lp & still think your last 1 (Zinc) if the best... I still listen to it a lot.
This song is on UK- Danger Money and also on their live album named Night After Night. However, this particular version isn't on any legitimate release.
This is amasing to see again. I saw UK in 1979 and when Eddie performed this song it was incrediable. I can still see it and here it 27 years later. The shame is Eddie Jobson has not performed live in 25 years..since he left Jethro Tull. Somebody needs to push him back on stage. Its been too long.
Best Bass Players I have seen live...Stanley Clarke, John Entwistle, Chris Squire and John Wetton when he was in Uriah Heep..

Jobson is a maniac, very intersting to ear a violin in a rock band.
Most of the guitarist want to have that kind of freedom and sound.
Look at Allan holdsworth and Steve Hackett and many others.
