But now I really think it is about Maya Kibbel :) (Nick's best friend) , I don't know how old her mom was when she got Maya, but Maya's dad died when she was little, so it's possible that the song is about her :)

It could be about whoever. I'm not going to start making assumtuions because the onl things we know for sure about this song are the lyrics, and that Nick wrote it. Thats really not enough information, and its Nick's personal life If he wanted the meaning behind this song to be our business then he would have told us. I think that was the point of this song. He's not going to go ahead and tell everyone about this girl and use names and all that, so he writes a song about, obviously metaphors..

agreed. Selena's mom had her at sixteen, and her father is not in the picture. She also started working in "the industry" at a very young age. I think all the pieces fit.
Appropriate? Of course it is. He said that all of the songs were things he had on his heart, and Selena is another page in the book.

it is totally about selena gomez. it's not a "love song." it's ABOUT her. have you heard her biography? selena's mom had her when she was only 16. hence "she was brought into this world, out of a beautiful mistake, when her mom was just a girl."

Why does this song have to be about Selena Gomez????? Ok,so who agrees that people need to stop worrying about who this songs about, and just listen to song! Like, Nick is a brilliant musician, he could have written this song without an inspiration, and anyone who's ever listened to JB knows that they use a lot of METAPHORS,especially is LVATT. If you will take my take on Black Keys
I think it represents the black keys on a piano they stick out among the white, Selena is far different from the cookie cutter disnegirl Selena is different, she was born and raised different and alot of other factors are not the same. I think Nicks trying to say that sometimes its better to see black and white, instead of a rainbow. When you think Miley(just an example) you think rainbow, and nick says hes tired of that and Sel is like the black and white

Ohh haha ok...I meant that the song Before the Storm was a dead give away! Haha buutt...I do know quite a bit about Black Keys. So, Nick was sitting at the piano writing his first song only using the Black Keys of the piano. But as he wrote more of the song, he realized that it had a bit more meaning to it. I guess he thinks that some things are just better left black and white, instead of screwing them up with color..and you can see the metaphor there =) I think its beautiful <3

I don't know about the flower shop thing, but I think Nick's gal pal, Maya Kibble, from his childhood worked at a flower shop. It could be about EITHER. I'm leaning more toward Selena, becasue it later says, "She was young but not naive; always wise beyond her years, hoping no one would see, everytime she dried her tears," and that's Selena TOTALLY. Either Selena or Maya; do a video for Maya. :)
