  • I love this tutorial!! I've always thought these were so cool but every other tutorial I've seen onhow to make the edible flowers they use cutters or fancy tools and stuff! All I need for this is a plastic bag check! Fingers? How would I be typing? Check!! Fondant? CHECK!!! I love this tutorial it is so awesome that you! I can't wait to surprise my friends!! :D :)

  • I love the way you don't use all these fancy tools, just your finger some fondant and a plastic bag, thank you so much for this tutorial.

  • Hi, I love your videos. So original and homely. I was wondering do you chill those beautiful cakes that you do before applying the fondant and also, how long would I need to wait for the roses to dry before applying them to my fondant cake surface? Thank you so much!!

  • thanks ! i chill the cakes before applying fondant. the roses...i wait til they have set in that shape... to be safe... a couple of hours sometimes to overnight - and they are real hard.... hope that helps!

  • thank you i did my first rose i just couldn't wait until tomorrow it sure turned out nice thks i'm so glad i found you and sugariesweet thank you thank you

  • Thank you so much for your easy fondant roses. I mad my first fondant cake for thanksgiving and because of you I was able to add beautiful roses in differnt shades of orange on a chocolate fondant base. It came out spectacular!!. Once again thank you . Are there any other flowers you can do with fondant? let me know ..Thanks!

  • yay Thanks so much ! you can make almost any flower with gumpaste... use gumpaste not fondant... it is easier and better to use gumpaste. i think i did this video before i discovered gumpaste. gumpaste is just a modelling version of fondant. you can turn fondant into gumpaste by adding tylose powder .

  • Thank you so much. My instructor will kill me, but it's better than the Wilton method. She said our last project will show who is a hobbist versus a professional. of course, as a hobbist, I have to show otherwise. Thank you!

  • @crtconsu

yay! go make us proud ! :)

  • Thank you so much. I did my first fondant cake for thanksgiving and because of your easy technique I was able to add the roses. So Easy!!! They came out perfect. I did them in different shades of orange on a chocolate fondant base. I got that idea from your suggestion at the end. So the cake had a beautiful and realistic bouque of roses. they all took their own personality.Again thank you so much. I hope I can add on my cake soon.Just have to figure out how to do that.LOL..Thanks!!

  • the parchment paper 'can' work but it may not be as smooth as with plastic... but give it a try,of course. you can purchase gel food colors for coloring fondant at craft stores like michaels, ac moore joanns etc

  • oh ok. i don't know if il be able to find these brands in manila but il try. would you do a demo on girl stuff such as bags, shoes, dress, etc? thanks! keep up the good work.

  • Thank you for your video,

    Ciao!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! Its the first one I have seen so far on how to make roses with Fondant! I dont have gumpaste, and I have to make my own fondant..so this really helps! Thankz so much, and great video!! =)

  • thnks for your video i just made my first rose using your video and i was supprised that it came out beautifullllll thnks so much!!!!!

  • Okay. Thank you so much! I'll definitely check out that demo.

  • Hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was really helpful! I have a few questions, though: I haven't used luster dust yet, but I'd like to know if you can use it to make the ends of the petals more red/pink?And how easy is it to work with? because I'm scared that It's the kind of powder that spills all over the place whenever you try to use it.

    Thank you so much!

  • Hi. The petal dusts ( for me ) can do that-- and add depth to your petals, for me it is more controllable in terms of where you want to put it and how deep the color should be. Luster dust is also easy to use an an accent but remember that it 'shines' so you cant brush it all the way and have the shiny stuff everywhere if you want a localized application. i may have a little demo on that on my fondant vs gumpaste part 2 vid

  • Loved this ! Thanks !

  • Thank you so much for making this tutorial. Although my rose did not come out as perfect as yours it was great to get an idea of how to make one with basic materials.

  • I like the way you make the rose and I love the way you talk... Your Baby is so sweet...

Can I also make the roses with marsepan?

Thanks for your video, its really great...

    Lovely greats from germany ;-)

  • thanks! although I have not tried making anything with marzipan-- i believe you can make it that way. i have seen some tutorials here on youtube using marzipan instead of gumpaste/fondant.

  • Hi...

Your roses looks shine...like if had use verniz on the outside....

You can tell me.....how make flowers more shine??

    Thanks

  • Hi. I do not know what 'verniz' is. but the shine on fondant is temporary because of the shortening on my hands-- or the shortening used when kneading the fondant. some add more shortening to make it look more shiny.

  • Today I made my first roses.....

All because of you....with this great tutorial!!!!

    Thank you so much.....

    I love Youuuuu...ehehehehe..

  • Thanks for a great video, I havn't tried making flowers yet but you make it look easy so I shall give it a go.

  • I love ur how to videos, I'm just a teen wanting to pursue a career in baking and with the limited resorces I have this really helps me out

  • wow i want to make one

  • WOW nice tutorial... hi ms Mayen im really frustrated since i watched your job i want to create my own.. just one question if i make mm fondant can i stock this fondant for long time? and how long it will last... thanx!!!

  • I just discovered your videos today and I really appreciate it. Last night was my first fondant experience (making a simple duck figurine) and I learnt a lot from you. I hope to improve my techniques and results going forward.

    Thanks a lot, Mayan!

  • very nice Mayen...i missed this video but its indeed a very excellent demo

  • This was a wonderful video for me. I was really frustrated with roses. I found that marshmallow fondant works really well for me and requires no glue! Thank you for the simple directions.

  • I tried this but how do you stop the middle peddles sticking to the middle? It turns out looking like one big blahhh lol. was helpfull thank you

  • what is fondant?

    what do u look like?

  • I tried making thie rose last night using your tutorial and it came out GREAT! Thanks again! :)

  • Thanks for this tutorial Mayen! What a great help! Your son in the background is so ADORABLE! "Honeybun"! Too cute! :)

  • thank you so much this is very helpful for me. I really did enjoyed it a lot. I thought that it was very cute how your baby was crying. I have just one question how do you add color to the fondant?

  • just use food coloring liquid is best. I am making roses today hot pink and they turned out really cute ^_^ good luck

  • Salamat po ulit sa tutorial. It's really inspiring :o)

  • thats really helpful, thankyou so much! goodluck with all your cake baking and i will be watching ur videos, there really helpful! thanks

  • hey, this video was so helpful thankyou:) just one question, how do you get the fondant icing not to stick to the bag? as ive tried this many times and it keeps sticking, ive used icing sugar but then the fondant is covered in flour! And also, do you know how to make a base for the rose, so that the bottom of it isnt showing?? ive seen some roses with like a leaf kinda thing on the bottom, but i don;t no how to do it! Thanks

    Katie xx

  • hello there! you can use just a bit of shortening ( crisco) on your hands when you work with fondant and it will not stick anymore. when using powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking and it leaves marks-- you can brush them away by smoothing it with your crisco covered hands. and the part you are looking for is called the 'calyx'. you can either buy a cutter for it-- or just make it freeform. its like 5 small leaves joined at the center. or use a small flower and point the edges.

  • hey, this video was really helpful

Just one question, how to you get the fondant not to stick to the zipbag?? because everytime i do this it sticks and breaks, which is very annoying!! And also, do you have ways of displaying the roses on a cake without the bottom of the roses not showing, as this parts kinda ugly! Ive seen some people do the green leave effect on the bottom, but i dont no how to do this. Thanks

    Katie

  • thanks yur an awesome teacher to :]

thanks for taking the time to show me and write back to me :DD

  • they look reallyyy good :]

    thanks for showing me :DDDDDDD

i wanted to make a cake with a humongouse rose on the top of it but i wanted to know if you add to many petels will the rose fall apart?

  • I dont see why the rose wont be able to hold itself up--BUT if yo are making a bigger rose, i recommend watching tonedna1's video on it-- she has a much more detailed way of making a rose. If it is to become your topper, her way is much better and will give youa more stable and realistic rose. she is also an awesome teacher and answers questions sent to her.

  • i'm so glad i found this video, thanks for the help!

  • This was a very good tutorial on how to make roses. That cakes in one of your other videos is absolutly beautiful. I have a little trick and its up to you...if you cut open the plastic bag instead on just folding it over, you can put al least 4 balls into the bag and get the petals done a little faster. But otherwise your video was very helpful!!! Great Job

  • Excellent job! A very clear video and I loved the addition of the baby's words at the end.

Thank you for the great tutorial on how to make fondant roses. I will try my first one now.

  • So simple and they look beautiful!! Thank you!!

  • Hi ! I love your videos ! You are amazing at this! I`m newbie in this and your videos have helpt me so much .Thank you and keep up the good job . :) I cant wait for your next tutorial :)

    Love : Magi

  • very nice..i'm making my first cake with roses so wish me luck haha

  • Brilliant, very well instructed.

  • wow this is cool!

  • Wow, before I saw ur video I was going to go out and buy all those fancy stuff to make the rose but thanks to your video I will try this first. Thank u sooo much it helped alot

  • Yey :) Thank you :) I also recently discovered that if you would want to make this look more life-like, use gumpaste instead of fondant-- and make sure that the gumpaste is rolled thin, and you can use a ball-tool to make the tips of the petal 'roll' a bit... you can see this technique used by the other youtube people-- that might help :) thanks again!

  • Hello Mayen,

I really admire all of your beautiful works! Keep at it and soon enough we'll be seeing you on the Food Network! I just had a pretty basic question, if you don't mind: how long do fondant flowers last once alrady made? Thank you for your time! Look forward to hearing from you.

  • Thanks!!! And that is really a dream for me -- cause I am a BIG food network fan... and a BIG ace of cakes fan as well :) I will email you on a response i researched on abotu the life of fondant figures once they are dreid and kept... pretty much the answer here is 'indefinitely'--- if it is to be eaten... then no more than 2 months according to wilton ( but who eats dried fondant??) so pretty much if you want to make it in advance and safely store it--it will last a long time.

  • what does fondant taste like??

and by the way, can u make fondant monkies on ur next video plz??

  • i havent tried making monkeys before... ill practice and see if it looks decent :) regarding the taste -- it depends on the fondant. if it's homemade marshmallow fondant, it's a bit easier to describe since it's melted marshmallows and powdered sugar... so it's really very sweet. Store bought fondant's will also vary by brand.. i find the satin ice brand to be the better tasting. it's sweet but not too much. to me it's like the cotton candy that melted,i can't think of another description though

  • thank u for responding to my comment.

and by the way, i really, really loved ur fondant rose.

    it was beautiful.

  • I've never actually tasted fondant so..I was just wondering, what does fondant actually taste like? Obviously, I know it tastes good but, does it taste like sugar or something?

  • Well, I've heard it's a sugar paste, right? So I'd imagine it just tastes very sweet...like sugar. I don't know though. I haven't tried it either.

  • it tastes very sweet. to give you an idea, home made fondant is made of marshmallow ( melted ) and powdered sugar -- so , it's that sweet . some store bought brands will not taste good... and then again, people have varying opinion on taste... when you get a chance, tasting a couple of fondant brands will enable you to pick the one that tastes best for you. thanks :)

  • Oh, thank you!! ;D And your roses are very cute by the way!

  • Thanks so much for sharing your technique! (And proving that it can even be done with little kids hovering over you--because that's exactly the enviroment I will be working in haha!)These turned out beautifully! :)

  • i love this rose! :)

  • You did a great job! Thank you very much. I took a Michael's course and failed with the gum paste-fontant rose ... but I'm pretty sure I could do this one. Thanks again! And keep them coming!

  • hi there! im glad you liked it. you can definitely make this ... even better !

  • hehe, i knew once you'd started making tutorials, you'd get addicted! i'm making one this week on how to apply hair to my fondant faces and how to make a fondant ballerina! yey

    tammy xx

  • Hey Tammy, how i wish we were neighbors haha !!! I would probably ask you to teach me how to do the figure modeling thingy -- something I haven't tried yet... you are such a talented girl !!! I still owe you one for the videos and hopefully i can do that later today :)

  • That would be amazing having a neighbour like you!!!!

i cant wait to see the video on how to make little animals! Im going to try and get a video done for you on how to make the basic shape of a body, face, hands and feet ect, then maybe a video on how to apply hair.

    thanks,

    Tammy xxxxx

  • Aw, it's very pretty! *wah!* much better than mine! So cute with the baby talking in the backround, sounds like my house! :)

  • Nope ! your creations are far better !!! I need to practice a lot more to get to that level ! But thanks for appreciating this short video !
