I just saw lightning right now during this snow storm im in in Indianapolis IN USA....it freaked me out...never heard of such a thing!!! AMAZING!!!!

We had 8 hours of thundersnow in Perthshire nearly 3 weeks ago - it is amazing to listen to isn't it . A member of my family rang me during your storm on Saturday evening to let me hear it over the phone. You probably noticed that the snow even changes to more like a hailstone during that type of blizzard. Some info about thunder snow.

Thunder snow happens the same as a normal rain or hail thunder storm. Energy in the air ( CAPE). It just dosent happen as much in winter because the atmosphire behaves diffrent!
