Poor WNBC's Chopper 4 going down not one but twice! I'm from Chicago, i once remember watching the channel 2 news, and seeing a little bump about chicago's chopper 2 going down in the middle of a newscast, but ive never seen any actual video of it actually going down.
I don't believe so but WABC radio lost one in 1987 or '88 in which the reporter was killed. This is a problem that is unique to WNBC. Either they hire people to properly maintain their news chopper or they should be barred from having one.
GE wasted all that money for only a few months of service from a brand new helicopter, only to then go right back to the old one, only to have that one crash 6 years later on a Brooklyn rooftop. All that technology, sunk to the bottom of the Passaic River and lay on topof a house.

All of their choppers were leased. The new Chopper 4 has redundant everything so it was good to go. Everrything except a redundant tail rotor.
