  • What a guy! I hate groups, too. Individuals rock. Get lost conformists.

  • i miss him

  • An artist has an obligation to be on route, to be going somewhere, there is a journey involved, you don’t know where it is AND THAT'S THE FUN!!!

  • "Fonzie" Jon Stewart. Tee hee.

  • Stevens Point! Yeah!

  • veri nice!

  • hard work and genes... yeah... Carlin must have skipped the Sociology class in college. While genetics has a very small influence in behavior, having a mind set to be a hard worker is the result of socialization.

  • Fuck, I miss this guy

  • Bill Maher is more of a direct descendant of Carlin's line of comedy than Jon Stewart.

  • we could go hookering LOL

  • jon stewart's hand would burn off if he tried to hold George's torch

  • @jdono417 Jon isn't half the standup Carlin was, but he's great in the niche he's found.

  • "I knew George Carlin and jon stewart is no Geore Carlin"

  • That's one good looking Jew.

  • To be honest, if you watch The Daily Show regularly you'll see Jon tear into politicians or the other major offenders pretty viciously at least one segment a week. I think Carlin made a good call at the end of the video.

  • pass the torch...... jonny cant write and doesnt, might smoke but he is still doing same old, good for him though....maybe stuck in a cycle maybe not

  • I like Stewart but Ill be damned if hes the one Carlin is gonna pass the torch too..

  • I really hope Carlin and Stewart passed a joint back and forth at one point.

  • Jon's a fox.

  • LOL @ Stewart was the Fonz.

  • Is this from when Stewart was on MTV?

  • Probably ten years back but very entertaining if not interesting

  • @darinbar More like 15 years. Ha.

  • @darinbar It says in the description that the interview is from 1997, so there's no need for speculation.

  • Haha Jon Stewart looks like Bruce Springsteen!

  • The brilliance of these two is astounding. RIP George

  • he's like richard dawkins.. speaks so much sense it hurts.

  • @SandmanJAAE no he's better than Dawkins.

  • @johnhamilton08 Apples and oranges.

  • The audience applauded, what? -- at least twice -- right?

And yet what the hell did he say?... Nothing, really

The problem I have with G. Carlin is that if you take away his cynicism and negativity about human nature -- which a great many people just eats up -- because, after all, it's a culture of meanness and cynicism -- if you take away his cynicism & negativity and *meaness* as regards human potential, what you have is a robotic kind of guy who says nothing-- and people applaud him

  • @9162vb48 well what you're forgetting is he is a comedian, &a person who comments on social life. Hes not here to propose solutions to problems...hes commenting on the absurdity of them, of every day life and of existing structures. What carlin does expertly and what he DOES get applauded for is his ability to uniquely frame all these cynicisms and present them in an easy to understand but extremely powerful and funny way. Are you looking for answers? I think u are looking to the wrong person.

  • @giantsteps88 Not to step on your point which i do agree with , but at the same time , at least in my opinion. Why don't these comedian commentator purpose a solution? Even if the solution is outlandish or part of a joke. I mean just saying WHAT is wrong without addressing on the HOW to fix a certain problem just sounds like whining... i mean at least to me anyways. George and Stewart is great but still whats the harm in just purposing a solution ?

  • @9162vb48 Wow, just wow. The stupidity is tremendous.

  • Wow! Carlin told him that he would show us a lot...Jon sure has! I love it. You will live as long as I do George...in memory at least. I bet much longer than that.

  • Jon, if you ever read these things remember this interview with a great man that never lost his perspective, not you fool! Carlin. If you keep your humility you can and will be as great. Could you ask for anything more?

  • He's bang on about drug use. They're like tools. Know how and when and how often to apply them. They can have positive results when used properly.

  • once again George was right, when he says:"u gonna show us a lot"

well, Jon has a comedy show(a very funny show) which is also superior to every news channel, when it comes to inform ppl

  • I only wish I had the vision, intellect and wit of Carlin's pinkey finger and then got voted President, as he shoulda been!!

  • my mother was very cunt.... controlling

  • i am glad i reached my " age of reason" while you were still alive my friend.. and while we are in totally different generations i do feel you as a friend George....

dunno about the others but i do miss you you old bastard.. you have my respect and i know it would mean a lot to you cuz you always liked the individual ...

rest in fucking peace and stay what you are till the end of fucking time..

  • brilliance. complete brilliance. George Carlin knew something everyone else didn't.

  • When the n00b meets the king

  • "You're going to show us a lot..."

And then and there no one would have guessed he would become the liberal spokesman for our youth.

  • Comedy started from George Carlin.. The Godfather of Comedy.

  • @Devega33 Go back to Will Rogers. It's frightening how much of "Bacon, Beans, and Limousines" still applies.

  • Andrew Dice STEWART?

  • @thekswervedirt ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....

  • whoa jon stewart looks young !

  • Luke meets yoda!

  • "You are going to show us a lot". George Carlin to John Stewart 10 billion years ago.

    Perfect.

  • quite possibly one of the greatest comedians ever to have breathed. In my opinion there will never be another George Carlin, but Jon Stewart does come pretty damn close.

  • 31 people wear funny hats

  • one of my all time heroes

  • I like his narrator voice in "Thomas and friends"

  • hey Jon, hide your boner.

  • Cute John!!

  • "You are going to show us a lot and I look forward to it"

    He sure was right.

  • The only A's I got was : I got their attention, I got their approval their admiration, their approbation and their applause. Thats the only A's I ever wanted -George Carlin

  • Jon Stewart has hair :o.

  • "and you are going to show us a lot and I look forward to it."

  • There will never be anouther George Carlin.

  • carlin's very last words say it all!

  • I would have loved to talk to him for just one hour. that's all i fuckng ask. one hour

  • Lenny Bruce--->George Carlin--->Jon Stewert

    Let the intellegant chain continue!!!

  • this 1 :)

  • I forgot about this interview! This was part of a Carlin anniversary special on HBO, and besides this interview it had a short standup bit from Carlin, including the best version I've heard of the "American Bullshit"/"There Is No God" routine, just months before whatever special it ended up on.

  • 666,192 views...... all i see is 666

  • Marvelous interview. I enjoyed this conversation btw two brilliant personalities of powerful thinking and sharp wits. And both are so......likable.

  • First Time I saw George Carlin was at New Years Eve 1977. It was about 1 am on January 1st ,1977. My parents were out at the Neighbors for New Year's. I snuck downstairs and put the TV on in the middle of the night and George Carlin was on doing his mono Speech. I was Flipped out at age Ten. He blew my Mind !

  • George Carlin was genius. I didn't hear anyone explain drugs and afterpains like that. He's so right.

  • Passing the torch

  • @myvidstv1 Maybe...but I think Jon is the more intelligent (read rational) one.....and I am a contemporary of Carlin............

  • That brought a tear to my eye by the end. Wonderful!

  • carlin is eloquent

  • Excellent interview. The deep admiration fir carlin stems waaaay past his comedy. He's a thinking man. Thanks George for all the wonderful memories.

  • Carlin said Stewart would show us a lot, and he was right.

  • "Every person you look at, you can see the Universe in their eyes --, if you're looking."

    Awesome.

  • Thank you - belatedly, George.

  • Two classy men.

  • omg JON WAS SOOO OMGOMG *SWOOOOON*

  • Stewart sugar coating to much.

you need to say things as it is to those stupid people.

  • His hair is brown!!!! That was weird.

  • 6:05-6:25 was complete enlightenment.

    mahalo george

  • George Carlin was one of a kind. One of the few who could make me laugh til I cried. He still does.

  • Cool interview... Giants

  • Jon just has a natural talent for interviewing its crazy really if he wasnt so damn funny he could have been the male Opera.

  • George Carlin hates TF2, cuz he can't stand groups of people with hats.

  • "My mom was a very...c*nt..." and nobody flinched. I guess the 90's were a different time.

  • This made me cry, It is still hard that Carlin is gone

  • To bad Stewart became your typical sycophantic presstitute. Carlin=Legendary

  • I think the Daily Show owes everything to Carlin

  • @fasfsdfasd Look, I don't want to get into a pissing contest, but you just said that you were. My version of the truth is that Mr. Carlin is not an ignorant man. Quite the opposite, in my opinion. So who's "truth is right?" Truth is different than fact, it is, rather, a perspective or an opinion. And I wasn't going to point this out, but why do keep assuming that I am a sir?

  • my god. look at that hair.

  • @fasfsdfasd Actually, I'm pretty sure that the "right to judge" isn't actually ingrained in our Constitution. However, you do, and should, have the right to say that. Even if your wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • What a behemoth, I miss George. But who would have thought that Stewart would resemble George in many respects. Glad to have someone continue to humor us and bring back some sanity to television as well, though George undoubtedly is the Godfather of his niche.

  • @fasfsdfasd I guess you're forgetting one of the men that Jesus choose to be one of his Disciples, the Tax Collector for the Romans. He was considered immoral and despicable by many, including some of the other Disciples. But I guess you forgot this as well: Judge not, lest ye be judged.

  • Look at how pretty Stewart was back then. But that Fonzi hair with the leather... yeah, glad that's gone.

  • Happy Carlin is dead? You used your freedom of speech to say you're happy a man with open-mindedness, care for his fellow citizen and philosophical viewpoints is dead? Well, some day you'll die and neither I nor George Carlin will give a shit. That's why lonely hateful fucks like you believe in God, pretending someone cares. Pathetic

  • @fasfsdfasd surly is.... practice harder i reckon....

  • @fasfsdfasd not trying to pick a fight with you, I do indeed love all humans, including you, whether we disagree, but to applaud the death of a single human is despicable. i can see how carlin can be offensive, however in a country with free speech, he was well within his means to way whatever he wants.if you dont like him, be a true christian and forgive him. dont praise his death.come one now... remember, i love you, and want you and your family, and future family to be well in their lives :)

  • @fasfsdfasd well you proved my point.... you may think you are a christian but you are most def not christ like... how is he immoral... you do realize morals are a point of perspective.... just because some one sees life differently than you does not make them immoral...... you have never met this man. never. so to pass your disgusting judgement on a person you have never met. shows your true character, not his. i dare ya to look at facts, if they dont scare you....

  • @fasfsdfasd

    Terrible.....Immoral.......how?

  • @fasfsdfasd wow. real human and compassionate. you must be a christian. the only people i know that cheer the death of another human being that speak the truth are the political christians.... hmmmm as i recalll. if jesus did actually exist im pretty sure he was killed for speaking the truth....

  • @fasfsdfasd Fuck you this man had more knowledge and more understanding about this world than you ever will.

  • it's always a breath of fresh air when not one, but two intelligent people get in the same room together.

  • He was right, Stewart really did show us a lot.

  • And Carlin was right, Jon became something like Carlin himself.

  • Jon Stewart?

I thought this was The Fonz

  • Jon is great.

and Carlin... well he was a fucking beast...

  • @matereymate damn right Carlin is a beast, this should've been posted in the "Pets and Animals" section of Youtube!

  • Most of the things we use don't let you leave them alone, pot does thank goodness for that ^_^ well said George well said. God I hate people that say they're addicted to weed.. if you really think you are then your dealer must be lacing you up good, or your not smoking weed. one or the other.

  • Two of the funniest and smartest comedians right there.

  • No grades that's good Carlin? Didn't you complain about "no child left behind" lol

  • I know you're not screaming up at us, or smiling down at us...but dammit George we miss you something fierce. There's isn't a comedian left that compares to you.

  • This was so much less funny than I expected it to be.

  • George Carlin can be harsh but he speaks words of wisdom

  • Found it.

  • hard work is learned and reinforced

  • do all things in moderation (bible)

  • thanks for posting. Nuff said

  • i don't even find the words to explain how much this man influenced on me. rip g.carlin

  • @pustolov9 ..yes... me to...!

  • Good stuff.

  • Carlin predicted Jon's future in the last moments of this show.

  • After Carlin died, I took the day off of work. I couldn't help it. One of the world's most famous and most enlightened philosophers had passed away. *poof* Overnight. It was almost too much to take in. I miss him often.

You were part of the family, George. You always will be.

  • @foufousue in all honesty, i did the same. i earned my first internship at a large corporation that summer but when I found out... i said, "FUCK IT!" I took the day off in honor of one of my heroes. a very real void when he departed.

  • Man, he sure is missed. I didn't agree with everything he's said over the years but we're so lost now without someone like him to say them.

  • It's almost like George gave Stewart his blessing at the end. I love it lol.

  • @hfrancoe - it kind of gave me goosebumps... pretty damn awesome. I Love Carlin, I listen to/think of him almost every day...

  • @hfrancoe

George knew what he was looking at.

    That was professional discernment,

  • John Stewart looks a lot like Andrew Dice Clay (dice 20 years ago)

  • George is someone who figured it out.

  • Joe Bageant : Deer Hunting With Jesus,

Read it if you love george carlin you will love joe bageant

  • you got our aplause Carlin... rest in peace

  • inspirational piece. thanks for posting!

  • i still wonder how They let him on stage in the first place...................

  • @hellhawksdad think i get it '-' =D

  • that Jon Stewart is a good interviewer. He's gonna get his own show one day...

  • @roachmcpoach actually, he did had his own show on MTV back in the 1990s. unfortunately it was short-lived.

  • It's genetic... until the conversation turns to the ghetto ohhhhhhhhhh no you di-int!

  • @imax1971 No, he simply pointed out millions of sheeps.

  • To hear George speak of Bill Hicks ....best day ever.

  • Jon's brother Larry Leibowitz is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the New York Stock Exchange.

  • Carlin = Genious....RIP.....:)

  • GC iz so right what great command ov hiz voice. i wonder if he got trained ? or geneticz.

  • i like carlins compliment at the end, "you're gunna show us alot"

  • Oh. My. God. What in the hell happened to this kind of intelligent discourse on TV? Why in the hell is it that this is coming from the comedians of our generation? Not that I don't love comedy, but where in the hell are the other people with this kind of intelligence? It is a sad reflection on the state of the media today I think. Though..... perhaps bittersweet is a more appropriate word for it.

  • Ive smoked grass for about 6 years, and i don't want to be a downer. But what Carlin says about drugs is bang on.

  • George Carlin was right. Jon Stewart did show us somthing.

  • @Fr3ak2 You're right about that mate.

  • George Carlin was a genius. He will be missed.

  • love niggers

  • I agree with the whole drugs enhancing your creativity. Look at Eminem he was untouchable when he was on the drugs, now that he's sober, he's almost borderline wack.

  • @Wordlaw12

Maybe but his decline began long before he was sober...maybe some drugs in a regulated fashion.

  • @Wordlaw12 truth

  • @Wordlaw12

You just used the phrase "almost borderline wack", and that is magical.

  • I could have watched an hour of this ten minutes just was not enough. Two great minds. God Speed George.

  • yes moron your a moron for having faith in something unseen an thinking someone with a different idea on religion deserves to be punished for ever so yes spiteful moron

  • That's about 75% of the world's funny up on stage right there. George and Jon... heroes. At least we still have good comedians today (unlike the music scene). Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Louie CK, Bill Burr, and as far as actors go- Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell. Still, the comedy scene will never be the same without Carlin. RIG (Rest in Grave)

  • We all create god in our own image. And when your god just happens to want and hate exactly the same things that you do-kinda hard for anyone capable of critical thinking to take any of it seriously. Especially the afterlife and judgment stuff. There's a reason it's called death, i.e. end of existence, and not continuation of life and all it's human contrived bullshit.

  • Towards the end of the video, George was absolutely right, we are all related somehow and connected along with the universe, its just all the shit we've been submitted too throughout our lives and such, we've all been subconsciously separated and segregated from each other on every level for ridiculous illusions and reasons. We are all brothers and sisters of the universe, so lets unite together and show all the tyrants what real peace means to us!!!!!!
