hard work and genes... yeah... Carlin must have skipped the Sociology class in college. While genetics has a very small influence in behavior, having a mind set to be a hard worker is the result of socialization.
To be honest, if you watch The Daily Show regularly you'll see Jon tear into politicians or the other major offenders pretty viciously at least one segment a week. I think Carlin made a good call at the end of the video.
The audience applauded, what? -- at least twice -- right?
And yet what the hell did he say?... Nothing, really
The problem I have with G. Carlin is that if you take away his cynicism and negativity about human nature -- which a great many people just eats up -- because, after all, it's a culture of meanness and cynicism -- if you take away his cynicism & negativity and *meaness* as regards human potential, what you have is a robotic kind of guy who says nothing-- and people applaud him
@9162vb48 well what you're forgetting is he is a comedian, &a person who comments on social life. Hes not here to propose solutions to problems...hes commenting on the absurdity of them, of every day life and of existing structures. What carlin does expertly and what he DOES get applauded for is his ability to uniquely frame all these cynicisms and present them in an easy to understand but extremely powerful and funny way. Are you looking for answers? I think u are looking to the wrong person.
@giantsteps88 Not to step on your point which i do agree with , but at the same time , at least in my opinion. Why don't these comedian commentator purpose a solution? Even if the solution is outlandish or part of a joke. I mean just saying WHAT is wrong without addressing on the HOW to fix a certain problem just sounds like whining... i mean at least to me anyways. George and Stewart is great but still whats the harm in just purposing a solution ?
Wow! Carlin told him that he would show us a lot...Jon sure has! I love it. You will live as long as I do George...in memory at least. I bet much longer than that.
Jon, if you ever read these things remember this interview with a great man that never lost his perspective, not you fool! Carlin. If you keep your humility you can and will be as great. Could you ask for anything more?

The only A's I got was : I got their attention, I got their approval their admiration, their approbation and their applause. Thats the only A's I ever wanted -George Carlin
I forgot about this interview! This was part of a Carlin anniversary special on HBO, and besides this interview it had a short standup bit from Carlin, including the best version I've heard of the "American Bullshit"/"There Is No God" routine, just months before whatever special it ended up on.
If you are thinking of having an abortion this is a must see.
I watched this movie called 180 movie it was very good if you are pro-life or pro-choice, watch this award winning documentary and see where you stand at the end. At least watch the trailer and see if you are interested.
First Time I saw George Carlin was at New Years Eve 1977. It was about 1 am on January 1st ,1977. My parents were out at the Neighbors for New Year's. I snuck downstairs and put the TV on in the middle of the night and George Carlin was on doing his mono Speech. I was Flipped out at age Ten. He blew my Mind !
@fasfsdfasd Look, I don't want to get into a pissing contest, but you just said that you were. My version of the truth is that Mr. Carlin is not an ignorant man. Quite the opposite, in my opinion. So who's "truth is right?" Truth is different than fact, it is, rather, a perspective or an opinion. And I wasn't going to point this out, but why do keep assuming that I am a sir?
@fasfsdfasd Actually, I'm pretty sure that the "right to judge" isn't actually ingrained in our Constitution. However, you do, and should, have the right to say that. Even if your wrong.
What a behemoth, I miss George. But who would have thought that Stewart would resemble George in many respects. Glad to have someone continue to humor us and bring back some sanity to television as well, though George undoubtedly is the Godfather of his niche.
@fasfsdfasd I guess you're forgetting one of the men that Jesus choose to be one of his Disciples, the Tax Collector for the Romans. He was considered immoral and despicable by many, including some of the other Disciples. But I guess you forgot this as well: Judge not, lest ye be judged.
Happy Carlin is dead? You used your freedom of speech to say you're happy a man with open-mindedness, care for his fellow citizen and philosophical viewpoints is dead? Well, some day you'll die and neither I nor George Carlin will give a shit. That's why lonely hateful fucks like you believe in God, pretending someone cares. Pathetic
@fasfsdfasd not trying to pick a fight with you, I do indeed love all humans, including you, whether we disagree, but to applaud the death of a single human is despicable. i can see how carlin can be offensive, however in a country with free speech, he was well within his means to way whatever he wants.if you dont like him, be a true christian and forgive him. dont praise his death.come one now... remember, i love you, and want you and your family, and future family to be well in their lives :)
@fasfsdfasd well you proved my point.... you may think you are a christian but you are most def not christ like... how is he immoral... you do realize morals are a point of perspective.... just because some one sees life differently than you does not make them immoral...... you have never met this man. never. so to pass your disgusting judgement on a person you have never met. shows your true character, not his. i dare ya to look at facts, if they dont scare you....
@fasfsdfasd wow. real human and compassionate. you must be a christian. the only people i know that cheer the death of another human being that speak the truth are the political christians.... hmmmm as i recalll. if jesus did actually exist im pretty sure he was killed for speaking the truth....
Most of the things we use don't let you leave them alone, pot does thank goodness for that ^_^ well said George well said. God I hate people that say they're addicted to weed.. if you really think you are then your dealer must be lacing you up good, or your not smoking weed. one or the other.
I know you're not screaming up at us, or smiling down at us...but dammit George we miss you something fierce. There's isn't a comedian left that compares to you.
After Carlin died, I took the day off of work. I couldn't help it. One of the world's most famous and most enlightened philosophers had passed away. *poof* Overnight. It was almost too much to take in. I miss him often.

@foufousue in all honesty, i did the same. i earned my first internship at a large corporation that summer but when I found out... i said, "FUCK IT!" I took the day off in honor of one of my heroes. a very real void when he departed.
Oh. My. God. What in the hell happened to this kind of intelligent discourse on TV? Why in the hell is it that this is coming from the comedians of our generation? Not that I don't love comedy, but where in the hell are the other people with this kind of intelligence? It is a sad reflection on the state of the media today I think. Though..... perhaps bittersweet is a more appropriate word for it.
I agree with the whole drugs enhancing your creativity. Look at Eminem he was untouchable when he was on the drugs, now that he's sober, he's almost borderline wack.
when he/she was created; people were very patriarquic/abusive and absolute; that, you can see/feel in any god-related writings/sermons: "Love me above any other God!", "If you don't give me your money/soul/time/attention, you will go to hell for eternity (!!!); fantastic God we have!. At the risk of being sarcastic/blasphemous I chose to use my freedom of speech to denounce this type of stupidity.
yes moron your a moron for having faith in something unseen an thinking someone with a different idea on religion deserves to be punished for ever so yes spiteful moron
That's about 75% of the world's funny up on stage right there. George and Jon... heroes. At least we still have good comedians today (unlike the music scene). Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Louie CK, Bill Burr, and as far as actors go- Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell. Still, the comedy scene will never be the same without Carlin. RIG (Rest in Grave)
We all create god in our own image. And when your god just happens to want and hate exactly the same things that you do-kinda hard for anyone capable of critical thinking to take any of it seriously. Especially the afterlife and judgment stuff. There's a reason it's called death, i.e. end of existence, and not continuation of life and all it's human contrived bullshit.
Towards the end of the video, George was absolutely right, we are all related somehow and connected along with the universe, its just all the shit we've been submitted too throughout our lives and such, we've all been subconsciously separated and segregated from each other on every level for ridiculous illusions and reasons. We are all brothers and sisters of the universe, so lets unite together and show all the tyrants what real peace means to us!!!!!!
What a guy! I hate groups, too. Individuals rock. Get lost conformists.

Oh. My.

Ive smoked grass for about 6 years, and i don't want to be a downer. But what Carlin says about drugs is bang on.

I agree with the whole drugs enhancing your creativity. Look at Eminem he was untouchable when he was on the drugs, now that he's sober, he's almost borderline wack.

@Wordlaw12
Maybe but his decline began long before he was sober...maybe some drugs in a regulated fashion.

You just used the phrase "almost borderline wack", and that is magical.

when he/she was created; people were very patriarquic/abusive and absolute; that, you can see/feel in any god-related writings/sermons: "Love me above any other God!", "If you don't give me your money/soul/time/attention, you will go to hell for eternity (!!!); fantastic God we have!. At the risk of being sarcastic/blasphemous I chose to use my freedom of speech to denounce this type of stupidity.

I wonder how God judged George? I would have to think the funny anti American atheist isn't doing to well at this point. Sucks for him.
