cool love the penguin hehe!! thats good that you like linux !! have to agree multimedia is very hard to get working on linux i have tryed video editing before didnt work to great its been long since ive used ubuntu linux so i cant remember the program !!
I'm using Linux for a half year now... and I every boot is a new adventure for me ;) (just for your information It doesn't make any problems, It's just awesome to see the logon logo and feel the power of linux)
I remember when Suse got $%^^& I had around 9.2 upgraded to suse 10.? and the package manager was broken (could not install anything except for things that came on the DVD) and it had many other horrible bugs.
I really like the flexibility that Gentoo offers in a source code variation, and have found it to be the best for me to manage and support. That's the great thing about the many varieties of Linux. There is a flavor for everyone. I am not crazy about RedHat because I feel they've messed up too much on the openness of Linux. Someday, I hope to get my Linux+ Certification, but not too crazy about RedHat Certification.
I'd love to get into a Linux support roll in my company or another if the pay was right. I'm not sure if that idea will ever become reality. The Business world is Micro$oft, and I'm stuck supporting it right now.
Don't sweat it! I understand there are always people out there who don't understand things. This was a parody, anyway, and he probably just doesn't understand...probably never watched some of my more serious Linux videos.
I think for ease of use, Ubuntu has the current card. However, before Novell destroyed Suse, I used to think the Suse ruled. I persronally like Gentoo because of the flexibility of source code.
I'm not a hacker, so I'm not sure how to hack with Linux. I just like the versatlity of Linux and all it has to offer.
I love TUX too! I got a penguin sitting by all my LINUX boxes and a penguin that travels with my laptop! hehe... plus I end all my videos now with the "HI PENGUIN!" LINUX rocks! Let me know if you're still looking for video editing stuff, there's a TON out there now.
Thanks!!! I have found many good editing programs. I use Kino mostly if I'm using Firewire, and lately with my EeePC, I just use the Video Capture UCView. Thanks for the comment!
Cinelerra is not a bad program. It's on par with sony vegas, which I paid 80 bucks for... I miss the GUI of sony vegas, but I rarely go into windoze (I only use it to play certain games). Also, you can use cinelerra to resize and clean up the video. This should remove the blinking dots.
Thanks for the comments, since this video from one of the first I did, I have gotten much better quality with my newer videos. Thanks for subscribing.
I recently started using Fedora GNU/Linux as a 'full-time' OS and it's awesome; the ability to go as far as you want with this OS, from running GUI apps on your choice of desktop environment (Gnome, KDE etc) to configuring the OS the way you want (config files) through the CLI to programming whatever you want in the OS (free and open source code), the flexibility, security and server-like stability is great.
Also, it's relatively easy to use configuration files to configure the OS on GNU/Linux. The equivalent in Windows is messing with a bunch of arcane registry file keys; speaking of which, there is no registry (or registry rot for that matter) in GNU/Linux and there's also no defragging the HDD. Ok I know I'm preaching to the choir but just in case anyone else who's thinking about switching over -- even more reasons to do it.
Gentoo would be better if they had preconfigured packages that did not need compiling, but I love the flexibility Gentoo offers. I understand the many negatives, though. I'd love it, if it didn't take me three days minimum to rebuild a Gentoo box with all the bells and whistles. ;-)
hehe yeah, how ever im a huge fan of compiling software XD i mainly use freebsd takes me minimum of around about 2 / 3 days as well to have completely configured and setup but as i always said good things take time =).
WOW.... UR CRAZY! yes im a linux user too... but i dont go around doing that lol. Great vid tho ... im glad you like it. Currently im using both Ubuntu and PclinuxOS. I bought a new laptop 3 weeks ago. an HP laptop, and the moment i got it i reformated it and installed PclinuxOS on it. for editing i use kino and openmovieeditor, for audio use audacity. Good LUck
Thank you. You should check out my other Linux video's. They are not as crazy as this one. This was an attempt at getting people to watch me. It worked because this video has 2682 views as of today. Anyway, always glad to meet another Linux enthusiast!!
hey man i have a question. i install ubutu linux 3 month ago but i got bored of it because i dont have internet...i used my usb netgear to get wifi internet when i used windows and it work right..but now that i swith to ubuntu linux i cant use the internet.
so do you know how to unistall/remove linux "ubuntu"/...
THANKS...IF ANYONE KKNOWS HOW TO REMOVE/UNISTALL UBUNTU LINUX SEND ME A MESSAGE OR SOMETHING..I WANT TO REMOVE LINUX AND GO BACK TO MY WINDOWS....
If you want to go back to Windows, and you installed Linux over the top of your entire system, you will need to reinstall Windows from an install CD/DVD. If you installed Linux next to Windows, you can change the boot priority or use a Windows CD to restore the boot sector for Windows. Then within Windows you can delete the Linux Partitions created. Partition Magic is good for this. If you require more, I can email you. Good Luck!
What is the model of USB Netgear Wifi Adapter you use. It may be possible to get it working under Linux. I use a Netgear 311 PCI wifi card with Gentoo in one of my desktops. It works great.
I'm using Ubuntu on my laptop and XP on my worksation.
In the corporate world, I would have to disagree with you. Many apps won't run on Linux and the total cost of ownership for windows is often less than it is for linux. Sure linux software is cheap or free.
Support is where linux costs more.
Most IT monkeys can support windows. How many can say the same for Linux?
In the future that may change, and I don't like it any more than you do, but for now business runs on windows.
I agree. The more I've matured in Linux, the reality of its pains really show. Support is a big issue, and that's why Linux has failed in many businesses. Too many people think they can port to Linux, and not hire Linux savvy people. Without the proper support platform, Linux can be a real nightmare. I've tried to speak with out departments about the use of GPL software, and migrations to free open source software, but conversions can cost more than the savings.
Me Too!! A few years ago, I used to load many flavors and see what worked best with what hardware, and also which were better for different uses. I've not had the time to do that for a while, but I love the choice and freedom Linux offers.
I like Linux to but get what! Microsoft is coming to spoil the fun LINUX IS getting the shit sued out of him. What did the penguin do!! Open Office is getting sued to.. How do you sue a open source community lol its like trying to bill the amish for electricity. Lol Well i got fedora core 6
It will be interesting to see what these patent wars end up doing to linux... You're right! How can you sue an org that is free. I think Micro$oft is just blowing smoke... They are the new SCO against linux.
I really hate windows, I think its time for me to get myself a reliable OS, ashame my dad is putting XP on my new computer when it is built. Anyway Ill be putting OpenSuse on this computer soon and I can tell you I cant wait, Linux is the way forward, Ive read so many articles about Linux on the internet and in magazines, from what I have read Im intrigued. Ive also read up some history on M$ and Im surprised what they have been upto all these years. Great vids DasGregor.
Yes, I agree. Have you watched my last linux vlog - Linux is for all? It's a little more serious about this topic, but I believe the biggest problem with Microsoft is lack of competition. There attitude is... tough, you don't like what we give you... then try something else... there is nothing really out there, yet. Someday Linux will be able to beat Microsoft on all fields of play.
linux is great though it has a non competitive nature its why its so attractive, they care about quality not money thats why there open source they appreciate ideas!! unlike microsoft the whole OS is run of Ideas!!
I agree. Because of choice and freedom, Linux becomes the better rounded OS from Windows. If they could just work better on hardware and driver support it would be awesome.
linux is cool for geeks and nerds. i dont think it will ever be for regular PC users. its also good as an embedded OS in phones and GPS's. I use OS X, i have used Linux in the past, and im thinking of setting up a linux Box again.
I agree... Linux has a long way to go before it can be a replacement OS for the general populous. Until then I still really enjoy the flexibility, challenge, and tinkering Linux allows me.
I would love to own a MAC someday, but they are too costly for me. Until then, I've gotten linux to do 99% of everything I like to run. The only thing I can't get linux to do well, is run my games. I have a lot of Win98 games from the past that just don't work... even with Cedega.
Nothing can be more harmful than the poor architecture of Windows and the many flaws it contains. I am a serious Linus user, and am proud that I've found an alternative to the money pit Microsoft offers.
I run Gentoo because it is so versatile. I am able to run Windows games using Cedega, and Crossover from CodeWeavers allows Applications such as Office XP to run on linux. I run Suse for my file/print server, and it hosts my web server and streaming audio site.
Personally, I don't use wine any longer because I've found many well made linux apps to replace the windows apps I've used in the past.
I love Windows; things just work!
