  • Thanks, I was doing them wrong.

  • Nick, very nice video. I agree on your philosophy behind the one arm push up; it's a phenomenal exercise. In my mind, it's in leagues with the handstand push up. I implore you go to BeastSkills . com, there you will find many tutorials for various (extremely) intense bodyweight exercises. In the one arm push up tutorial, he details an advanced variation where you keep your feet together. I think you should consider this variation, as you can do many reps of the "regular" one arm push up. Cheers!

  • I loved the video. However please check out Micky Gooch,he is the ONLY person in the World doing a One arm push up on ONE finger on a 6in nail head !

Over the year's Micky has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

    Go Team Gooch !

  • BTW what's up with Pavel and Nick saying use lats to do presses? It's so confusing because with pull ups I think of them as extensors, not flexors.

All I can figure is it helps you in the hole, because then your elbow is behind you, so I think the lat becomes a flexor perhaps when the shoulder is hyperextended. Much like how the lower pec can become an extensor when the arms is fully flexed (scaps rotated up).

  • Nick Tumminello: "Matt Hughes, I am not impressed with your performance of the one-arm push ups."

  • @tyciol

    HAHAHAAHAHA.....okay GSP. :P

  • This is another level of helpfulness! I've got a oap on my channel, and I flared my elbow out; I knew something wasn't right but I couldn't quite figure it out until now. I'm definitely going to try this method :) Thanks fella!

  • You have obviously never seen Paul Henry Allen Lynch to one-arm push-ups - what is this lean into it?

And I know you'll be checking out my video and comparing my form, but I am still working on perfecting my form with-out this turning , lean into stuff.

  • This video could've been 2 minutes long. It's a pushup, not heart surgery.

  • @elgilicious BRB, completing heart surgery in <6min

  • @tyciol Explaining =/ executing

Good luck on your heart surgery. Remember: don't touch the sides.

  • *with this

    *bang out

  • Thanks man! The video is very informative & it helped! :)

  • I've been doing it the hard way :[

  • @Ryuus31 what is that exactly?

  • Being able to do one-arm pushups is HIGHLY dependent on whether or not one has the body type that gives you the LEVERAGE advantage. It's not so much about knowing proper technique. Nick, you are a very, very short man. You have short legs, short arms, and a short torso. You have a tremendous leverage advantage over taller people. In the same way that it would be impossible for you to play center in the NBA, it is going to be VERY difficult for people with long limbs to do these pushups.

  • @mrkitanai1 I don't think that's necessarily true. This this proper technique even a taller guy with moderate strength should be able to band out a handful of these. I'm a 6'4" 210lbs pitcher and I can only bench maybe 225lbs as a 1RM which isn't that much but I can bang out about 6-8 of these if I do the corkscrew motion properly like he describes. Maybe a taller guy won't be able to do 30 like Nick, but don't count yourself out just because it will require a little extra training/work to get.

  • @digitaldude6745 There is a good reason why elite gymnast are very short - LEVERAGE! Most elite gymnast are well below 5'8". RARELY will you ever see an elite gymnast over 6 feet tall. Why? Because physics dictate what you can do. In other words - short people rotate faster.

  • @mrkitanai1 True, especially with full extension. A tall gymnast who knows how to tuck well would probably do okay though.

  • @mrkitanai1 i disagree man. yes it is true that longer-limbed people are at a biomechanical disadvantage, but if you build up to the one-arm pushup PROGRESSIVELY and in the right way, then body type becomes irrelevant. In fact the longer limbed you are, the more stimulus there is for your body to change.

  • @humblyshyt I am NOT saying that a taller person cannot improve his one arm pushup. What I am saying is that EXCELLING at something is highly dependent on your physical gifts. That is, you need to have an ideal body type. This is why a 6'10 inch basketball player can NEVER become a world-class Olympic weightlifter or powerlifter. His long limbs simply work against him in those sports.

  • Thank you :)

  • Nick very good. Why not using pushup grips and increase a bit the range of motion?

  • Hey Nick...check out Convict Conditioning for a great way to build up to a one arm pushup. cheers

  • @oneminuteworkout YES. convict conditioning. respect ;)

  • Very good video, I learned a lot! Now time for me to do some one-arm push-ups!

  • thanks
