  • im gonna disagree with this video haha. first of all the dog is waaay to excited for you to even be attempting to take the frisbee. If you want the frisbee back, you should wait until the dog is calm thus telling him, the only way we keep on playing is if ur calm. A person should NEVER pull the frisbee but pull lightly and challenge them physiologically and when they give up, take the frisbee and throw it again

  • This is a strange way of doing it. It's much better to just 'claim' the toy, make the dog move away from it, and not take it from its mouth. How I see you doing this it makes you look like the submissive one 'begging' for the toy, and asking them to give it to you. Just claim it. Be the pack leader

  • Can you do a video teaching how to drop anything in his mouth?

  • once again I understand I need to understand the dog so stop talking and show the actions.

  • that was good !

  • i think you need a girlfriend -__-

  • Awesome

  • and btw i dont pull it away and i dont let her "win" , but i guess shes 9 and when i moved out 3 years ago they have been letting her get away with doing that, cuse she could do it before without me have to really wait her out every time. and i do let her know when shes doing the right thing. help ! shes a very smart and very intellegent collie who has more energy than most dogs even though shes 9, soon 10, but looks like 2 ^^

  • what if your dog is very stubbern and actully knows she should let go? she allways let the stick go if i dont tell her before we go inside , but allways when i tell her , she kind of likes annoying me and i think she sees it like a game, i guess she think its fun .

  • pretty dogs

  • What do I do if my dog sometimes takes things and runs? It's pretty hard to catch him, so I often have to wait until he lets go of it himself.

  • @Rosette46 In this video Zak was keeping Indie on a retractable lead. I'm not sure if it would help you in your situation, but it seems like a good idea when you're working with a dog on something like that.

  • Hi zack, How can I teach my dog to ride a skateboard. Thanks

  • Bruno mars

  • I agree with not 'taking' the object from her. Your method can apply in this instance but I cannot see how it would with other things. For example, my girls don't take my socks or etc because I have claimed them. But what for dog's who are opportunists? My personal view is that I can claim things, even if when in their mouth and they''ll hand it over, understanding it is to be used on my terms or as you put it, knowing the rules of the game.

  • so on my training sessions with my dog, she like food rewards as well as toy rewards but sometimes when we get into the training and she wants to play she gets aggresive and starts biting me, i dont know what to do then so i just stop the session is there any advice you can give me?

  • awesome vid zac

  • where do you buy your frisbees? my dog has the same issue and will sit there and chew the frisbee till it breaks. wat frisbee would u recommend

  • Zak, not sure if you read all the comments. But I found your channel after looking for Border Collie training videos. I fell in love with your trio, partly because their behavior reminds me of my Jolene. Anyways, just wondering what do your dogs eat? They seem to be happy and healthy and you obviously have tons of first hand knowledge. Could you name some brands you'd recommend? Or maybe post a video on dog nutrion and diet? Thanks!

  • Indi is absolutely adorable and reminds me so much of my dog...except not as well behaved :)

  • TIMING IS EVERYTHING!! Yes, Zak, you are so right. Remember Pavlov? He gave the dog(s) powdered meat within 5 seconds of ringing the bell in order for them to associate the two events.

  • what is the name of this breed?

  • @BasedSwaggedAG Australian Shepherd

  • Hi! Just wondering, how would one train their dog to stay with them/not run away when going for a walk? Like walking with your dog without a leash.

  • I would like drop it to mean to literally drop whatever they have in their mouth. Leave it and drop it are two different things and I feel like you only taught leave it here. I really would like to know how to get a dog to drop something from out of its mouth especially if it can choke on something. :/

  • @greenduality I don't know if this will help, but I teach my dogs "leave it" and they will drop whatever they have in their mouth including food. If I want them to give me something (as returning a ball, etc) I say "Give. (or "Give it" if you prefer.) Works fine.

  • I have a puppy and it really helped her thanks zack!

  • I bet most of your fans dont actually have dogs :) Like moi! =D

  • Hey, I know you have mentioned you don't like normal dog parks for the rare occasion of an aggressive dog, (or dog fight) correct? How long has it been since your dogs interacted around other groups of dogs? Where do you find these empty parks all the time? And, have any of your dogs ever had a problem interacting respectfully with other dogs, despite their high level of training??

  • i love how your dog pays attention

  • Great video :)

  • Ur dog is so cute! :P

  • very detailed explained video..

    thanx Zak!

.keep up with more of that ;-)

  • i like these teaching-in-action videos...thank you for sharing!

  • thank you! :)

  • Hey can you make a bid on how to make ur dog not scared of water

  • this is silly... in the end you end up saying NO and taking it away even though you say you don't.

  • Is this video teaching your dog to leave it or to drop it? Are they both the same thing? I'm confused. My dog is the same as indy and I don't know which word to say.

  • @Animaniac825 To me, 'drop it' means dropping anything they have in their mouths, and 'leave it' means not even taking it at all.

  • @EvelineUK Yeah same with me. I'll just use both words then... My dog sort of knows leave it...

  • My instinct tells me to just wait until he drops it of his own accord and then proceed to do this same exercise you did with Indi...rather than try to grag it while it's in his mouth and ask him to leave it... Am I right essentially?

  • Thanks so much for that video, Zak! I'm having trouble teaching that same thing to a dog I'm training, but his behavior is somewhat different from Indi. He will not let go of a ball for anything. He is just content to have it in his mouth and will simply not let go. If he finally drops it, then he will behave exactly like Indi and wait for me to try and grab it. How would you adjust this technique for a dog who simply doesn't let the thing out of his mouth in the first place?

  • That was a great video! Thanks! :-)

  • great video, I'm glad your mmaking more demmonstrational videos now aswell.

  • @zakgeorge21 thank you so much this video responded to the question I left on your video how to fetch

you rock and your the best dog trainer on earth

    your friend, @MrDobermanDude

  • @zakgeorge21 I'm from South Korea (pretty far away fromt the States huh) and I'm a fan of your dog training videos. Because of your knowledge shown in the clips I could train my dogs well and teach them some new tricks. I showed your clips to some of my buddies who have dogs and they seem to appreciate your videos as well. Keep bringin those awesome videos up mate!!!

  • Great Video. My dog loves to play the hold on to the toy. He may drop the first few times and then hold until he feels like letting go. I just wait patiently and when he gives it to me I give it right back. At what point though do you stop waiting and just end the game. And would you do this while he still has the ball? If so doesn't he win ? But if I do it after he eventually drops it then he learns he does not get it back. I have been working on this for quite a while.

  • So I turn on my tv tonight here in Australia, and to my utter shock and uber amazement on I see YOU! I tried telling my friends - hey this guy is from youtube! They didn't seem to care, but I did - you have your own show! Glad to see you are going places Zak! Watch out Caesar Milan :P All the best.

  • thats a gorgeous dog

  • does this work the same with a leash if the dog iscontantly grabbing and pullingit? thank you.

  • Thanks Zak, can you do a lesson on teaching a dog to hold things in its mouth. Our dog will chase stuff, but will not keep it in its mouth to retrieve. I tried all the stuff on the video posted about a week ago, but she still wont bring the ball back, or keep it in her mouth when I try and run away, she just follows me, leaving the ball behind, and waiting for me to throw the ball again. Thanks......

  • @spmery does she take the ball in her mouth at all? If she does you could clicker train her to hold it for longer and longer, and then work on retrieving the same way. Slowly but surely she'll get the idea.

  • Loved this video, Indie is gorgeous!!

  • That was great!! Exactly what I needed!!

  • Dear Zak! please help me.

my dog is a year old (shih tzu/ pomeranian /collie and she runs away every time the front door opens unless we are going in the car how can I stop her from running i am scared she will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog like yesterday two dogs nearly bit her and she was nearly hit by a car as well please help me im so scared im going to louse her.

  • @shennyGurlz keep her on a leash....open the door... leave her standing and watching outside... so she/he understands that you go out with me with MY permission you don't go anywhere YOU want... and ALWAYS keep her on a leash until she is trustful :) Hope this helped

  • Hm I think this video is great but also dangerous. Doing this with some dogs will result in injuries.

  • That was pretty cool man!

  • Very informative training video! Thanks Zak!

  • Is Indy an Aussie? She's gorgeous! Love the video!

  • Zak, please do more videos with Indiana Jones. It's so helpful to see you teaching a dog who's not pre-trained. Plus she's a total cutie! Lucky Bree... I'll bet all your subscribers wish they were dating a dog trainer so their problem dogs could turn into Venus/SuperNova/Alpha-wannabes!! I'm so glad you're back to posting these kinds of videos. Not that I don't love watching your other videos... 'cause I'm a total geek and I love iphones too!

  • Nothing against you, Zak, but I really love your more recent videos showing the doggies in action :o)

  • I get what you are saying in this video, but like how long do we keep this session? Do we end each session on a positive note or do we come back later and try again?

  • @k9DaAV until ur dog learns!!! one sesion of 1 hour or two should be enough

  • @k9DaAV you always end on a positive note and end it before the dog gets bored.

  • You are an amazing trainer!!!

  • zak what kind of dog is indy?

  • @razzybirdman

She has to be a blue merle australian shepherd. My aussie shepherd looks identical to her.

  • Try it with your wallet

  • Zak, or Brianne, what kind of dog is Indiana Jones?

Also, WONDERFUL video. I was just wondering how to teach this. It;s quite difficult to play with a dog who needs an outlet, but won't give back the ball or frisbee.

  • Great video. Any ideas on how to correct a dog with that is "mouthy," as my vet called it? Like where the dog seems to need to have something in its mouth, like to find a shoe, or a sock, or anything handy? My dog doesn't tear up these things, she seems to treat them like a pacifier or something. And will drop them when commanded to "drop". The problem is I don't know why she is doing this in the first place, or feels any need to do it. My crocs (shoes) have teeth marks from this, lol.

  • @nymphrenic My dog is golden retriever, btw. If that's any help.

  • @nymphrenic mine is too!

  • When do you start practicing this with distance?

  • Awesome!!! My Golden Retriever, Nola, is great at fetching…it's the letting go that she has a bit of trouble with. She's getting better, but I understand now a better way of getting her to think about what it is that she really wants to do…continue playing fetch. Gonna start using this lesson tomorrow. Thanks, you are amazing with the furry friends! xo

  • @koneko279 I've taught 'drop it' by using two balls. I throw one, wait for my dog to fetch, then tell her to drop it before I throw the other one I have in my hand.

  • LOVED this video, I think this was one of your better ones, because you were working with a dog who clearly didn't get the concept just yet and we actually got to watch you train/teach the dog what you wanted her to learn.

Inspired by Who let the dogs out today I've had my first frisbee-training with my GSD. She's still trying to get the hang of taking it in her mouth, very different from her ball!

  • GREAT!!!! i love how she understands so quickly, dogs are the best!!! i love your videos zak!

  • whats with the quality?? Am I watching this to early??

  • @gimkilo57 Yup. The video is still processing.

  • @zakgeorge21 ah.. .better quality now :)

  • @zakgeorge21 I'm working with a very loving dog. But she is a couch potato. When ever i say sit she lays down. Shes not my dog...I'm giving my friend some advise and encourging her to watch your videos. She loves walks put every time i toss a ball or anything she likes she just lays down and waits to the peted.

  • @zakgeorge21 I am trying to get my 7 month to 8 month old Australian Shepard Border Collie cross interested in Frisbee but he carry's it but wont retrieve or chase it along the ground he will get excited but then just runs around and nips me but it is hard to get him to catch it as well he cant really catch a treat ball or anything any idea on building his mouth eye coordination kinda odd but any idea I have watched the video you made for it so you know bye.
