he's so incredibly beautiful. he died on my 18th birthday. if it really had to happen, i like it better that way. fuck, how can i miss someone whom i've never met, so damn much?
He told his friends that "White vans" where following him in his final days. Then they say he stabbed himself in the chest and then it was his girlfriend may have done it. I'm curious who these "White van" people were and what Elliott was writing in his music to think this?
@NathansPhase2012 This needs to be thought out logically. No one no matter how depressed or angry or insane is going to kill themselves in such a painful way.
Now, he was finally off his drugs for 6 months or so, he even gave up refined sugar and white meat, it's doubtful that he would kill himself after getting his life back on track.
He wanted to make more music and thus called his friend down to (do something I think produce) so why would he call him down if he was just going to suicide.
@imsleepyish You're so lucky. I started listening to Elliott Smith around 2003 when I first watched Good Will Hunting. I was just a little late to see him =/
oh and I forgot to add: while Elliott was talking, i realized that he had one of the most softest and kindest voices i've ever heard. i could fall asleep to that, it's so soothing.
I personally hear at 3:24, "I don't know...whatever"... which is probably still wrong, but I can say with certainty that the last word is not, "nobody".
He does inspire me for sure. I was just stating that it's hard to really look at your own songs / playing as really good when the bar gets set so high by someone like Elliott. Probably the same way he felt about The Beatles, you know ?
I feel exactly the same way. Especially lyrically, my lyrics are so trite and obvious and on the nose. Although, they are what I feel and want to say, and he did once say in an interview that people whould do what interests them because if it interests us, then there must be something good about it. So I will honor him by remaining true to myself... even if his talent intimidates the hell out of me while still being incredibly beautiful and enjoyable. :)
that was a good show eh?.....yeah.

Funny he should sing a song about not being able to finish what some one starts and he's interrupted and doesn't finish

:O I love this video. The beer thing was kinda amusing, and did he say "I'm a nobody" towards the end of the video?

I wish I was older, so I could have seen Elliott live. It's just not fair, I was born in the wrong decade.
XO, Elliott
