I read somewhere else that you dont string the reed in the holes just the slots (I may have that in the reverse order) and that the reed stays put; you use a comb to beat with.
How do you have yours warped? What are you using to beat it?
@ParadiseofFibers If you use the rigid heddle as the "reed" then thread thru the slots only.
In this video I am using a reed made from bamboo skewers (there's no holes, only slots). You can beat with the reed (this is how floor looms work) or you can use a comb or a stick shuttle.
I don't like using a rigid heddle as the reed when doing this. You have to sley several warp thread thru the same slot and yarns get sandwhiched which makes them difficult to lift.
@Shewhoishollow: Hey thanks! It gets even better...did you see my video where I converted my rigid heddle loom frame into a "4 harrness" string-heddle-bar loom? It's a riot! AND it works! I did it all for about $50 in materials, less than the cost of 2 rigid heddle reeds!
I had fun making it. There's videos all over of ppl using string heddles but nothing explaining *how* to set it up so I decided to make one.
I'll probably do a video on reading a draft since having someone show it is easier than reading about it.
Whne you go to do this, start out with a small project like I have here for practice until u work out the mechanics of it, then move onto a full size project on your "real" loom...and have fun with all those new designs!!
"what's your excuse now?"
my thoughts exactly. great video. bless.

Brilliant! I wondered if such a technique would work and here is the proof! Thanks for showing this so well.
