  • the first time i ever heard sonic youth was in 1990. I was 14, the song was dirty boots from the goo album and i've been preaching the sonic youth gospel to everyone i know!!!!!! by far the best fucking band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! here i am at twenty four and I still preaching lol

  • @souloneish how can you be 24 when you were 14 in 1990.........

  • someone needs to reupload that video, its all pixelated, Youtube has came along ways since 2006

  • @ghostrid3 yeah, right, but the original video is VHS-rip, so do not expect HD 1080

  • I should buy this Cd for my kids, they will thank me for ever

    good idea

    joeyhandsome

  • Que buen tema......Maldicion la cago!!!

  • The reason they call it the year punk broke is because it was a bunch of really raw and cool bands getting together just as the cheesy commercial hair metal and synth pop 80s had ended, so it was exciting times in music as showcased here. its also a little tongue in cheek.

  • I was twelve years old when i bought the Sister album, now i'm 26, it still sounds magical to me.

  • @joeyhandsome I have an unhealthy obsession with that album. I can't stop playing it, it's so fucking amazing.

  • ohh i didnt know thats the name of the movie, thanks steffenla4

  • In 1991 I was 13 years and didn't even know Sonic Youth, I wish somebody would have slapped some sense into me and forced me to go to this concert.

  • @simras1234 I could still slap the piss out of you if you'd like.

  • @Krahpula Oh thanks... always considered the youtubers a generous crowd.

  • @simras1234 in 1991 i was 5 :d two years later i saw the 100% music video..i would say that changed my life

  • I wish i was thereeeeeeeee :( fuck, how id like to have a time machine right nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww aghhhhhhhhhhhh :@

  • 1991 was not the year punk broke, sorry

  • @greenkz1 It's what the tour and the film was called

  • I LOVE THAT SONG!

  • Comment removed

  • @Failingexposed Then put in a sandwich?

  • is it possible for anything to be more awesome than this song?

  • @sleepyfish Of course not!

  • Sonic Youth . Too much love. Lee is the man.

  • As much as i like the older stuff. I really feel they have gotten better as band. The last 3 albums were all really good. Their best work yet.

  • @OsvaldoPaese i agree....sonic nurse being my fav

  • I dont know why

it sound furious, but at the same time its very sad

    bloody guitars tune

  • @theMdTribe; its obvious to me you have a lame taste in music LOL

  • i don't get it

everybody saying that there isn't any good music around anymore

just look arround there's so much great music, really just look around!

and maybe get a wider taste

  • @kalemarefrite THANK YOU!

I try and try to get through to these over-nostalgic, lost souls but they never listen. There's no reason to live in the yesterday when so much is also happening in the today.

  • @kalemarefrite thank you i thought that there was only crap today until i found a gold mine of great bands everyone who thinks there is only crap today just look around

  • im not gay

  • @KingNurk

    There's always Interpol

  • I saw SY in Buffolo in '92. So FUCKING WHAT.

  • The whole concept of psychiatry was developed well before 1900 in Germany to get rid of people complaining. The first use of directed energy weapons can be recognized in psychiatric literature from 1908. You find it in chapter Psychiatrie-->Klinik der Narkolepsie on my homepage. During the NAZI time this concept was given up as Germany just murdered oponents. It was relaunched directly after the war to persecute and silence concentration camp survivors.

  • @wwwtotalitaerde

    You are right.

  • ho le lacrime come una scolaretta.

  • oh I got this somewhere, it was the first time I saw J.

  • I feel so...Alexithymia

  • stop criticising the the music of OUR time.

  • stop writting clever comments because you want thumbs up

  • @ilcs15f man this is the best comment i have read in a long time

  • @ilcs15f why

  • @ilcs15f

Oh well calculated. Now it looks like you didn't care about the thumbs ups, but got them anyway.

  • @TwistedArmco I liked him before he got the comments...lol hipster imitation.

  • @ilcs15f How sneakily post-modern of you.

  • @ilcs15f pup cikk bargage

  • STOP CRITICIZING JUSTIN BIEBER. ITS OBNOXIOUS.

  • easily one of my top 10 favorite songs ever.

  • This show was kickass!

  • the sound track of my fuckin youth

  • a conversation i had with my professor at Berklee:

him: what are some of your favorite bands?

me: ohh i dont know, sonic youth is sick.

    him: sonic who?

    me: ummm... nevermind.

  • @titass420

Ya, it kind of gets awkward when people ask you what kind of music you like, and the only thing you can say is bands they never heard of, and sometimes the names just sound weird as fuck.

  • besides nofx and iron maiden, sonic youth is the best band's name ever

  • @oneminutewithprod I think I've seen this comment before on another video lol

  • @KinneyBikini It's true... I was trying to start an issue. hey, I am not the only one though who browse sonic youth videos :)

  • @oneminutewithprod oh then maybe it wasn't you who I saw the message from I can't remember what other video I saw it at maybe Dirty Boots I'll check

  • 1991, great year for life and music... er, um... Kim'so foxy :-)

  • this thing destroys me

  • I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other - NOW - can anyone, anyone at all, see the similarity with "I ain't gay but my boyfriend is."? Now if you can't, then you are fucking, fucking, fucking, STUPID.

  • fuckin awesome band

  • I'm just curoius, but what does it mean when you say that 1991 was the year that punk broke?

  • Comment removed

  • @jimellis123 it's the name of a documentary made about bands around 1991. it includes nirvana and sonic youth for sure, can't think of the others since it's been so long since i've seen it.

it's called 1991: the year punk broke and that's where this video comes from.

  • @antonoverby Thanks for the answer, I'll keep an eye out for the film.

  • I may be schizophrenic,

but at least I have each other.

  • @jamieblond1 He He - that's like I'm gay but my boyfriend isn't - Fucking idiot.

  • @TheOldEchoes - That was a fuckin' joke, you clueless fucktard.

Do you know why you have those old echoes in your head? Because there's nothing else there.

Grow a brain; then get a clue, Goober.

  • @jamieblond1 He He you funny monkey... can you be my pet monkey. I shall call you Bobo - like a 'nana Bobo. Bobo be a good monkey.

  • @TheOldEchoes - Is that your idea of makin' a pass at a girl, Goober? Oh wait I forgot, you're gay.

In any case, I'm not your type.....I'm not inflatable (*_~)

  • @jamieblond1 BAD monkey! No 'nana for you! Bad Bobo.

  • @TheOldEchoes - Hey Twinkle Toes.....if your boyfriend isn't gay, maybe you need to find a real gay boyfriend, dumbass.

  • @TheOldEchoes

maybe you are if you were honest enough

what a fucking tosser you are

  • @amnhendrickson p-90's

  • thumbs up and cut off then lifted up even higher by wire from the ceiling if you like sonic youth!

  • I'm mostly a metal guy, although I was into hardcore punk during high school, I can still appreciate good underground rock when I hear it. these guys, Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, Pavement, etc. are a testament to timeless sounds.

  • @ohiogrinder Now, seriously, these are better than all those mentioned.

  • she's my godness

  • Phillip K Dick!

  • epic win @ 2:53

     lee ronaldo=my hero

  • i love this song, but for some reason i prefer the live versions

  • @mwendyc i feel the same way man. and i also dont know why

  • It's pretty funny that those who hate this keep looking at every one. I guess there really is nothing much they evidently like, huh?

Because music I don't like, well, I, like a normal person, just doesn't bother to listen to it or waste my time dissing it. To each his own. Go listen to your Yanni, Celine Dion and Kenny G, it's ok, to each his own.

  • 31 people own a hairy butthole fleshlight

  • intelligent music for intelligent people and you people should be proud of it...

  • was this the Pukkelpop Festival? it certainly looks like it

  • @cannibalonXthedead yup, pukkelpop

  • @crazy8rgood yeah that's what i though. thanc for confirming it

  • People that have rap to say about those commenting on Sonic Youth are like those people you wish you didn't meet at a party, you know those BUZZ killers. Go some where and die!

  • djdarkmonkey sonic youth are still releasing outstanding albums, maybe not as good as their peak but thats a mighty fucking peak!

  • Whats discordant to one is beautiful to another, should be left at that.

  • Wow. My new favorite SY song.

  • wow so many fans where are these people at now a days!! seriously they need to bring more bands like sonic youth back... so much crappy music that all sounds exactly the same out now!!! i miss when bands wern't affraid to be different

  • @djdarkmonkey i'm right here

  • @djdarkmonkey

there are plenty of good and original bands out there, you just gotta get off the radio

  • @djdarkmonkey i cant stand comments like these, theyre all over videos for sonic youth, smiths, jesus and mary chain etc etc, theres fantastic music out today, and more variety and ambition than any other decade, you just have to look for it.

  • @Rapchaid Music is worse now. Fewer live bands, fewer venues for non-Clearchannel music, less ways for artists to get by making music. I miss live music and I miss bands like sonic youth. If you tell me there's anyone out there now this creative or talented I call BS.

  • @scoutinternational Of course it depends where you live. Where I live theres at least 10 live shows in my capitol city, Belfast frequented by semi-popular fantastic groups like a Hawk and a Hacksaw, who are playing in april. Theres live shows nearly every month in my own town, w/piles of inventive music. From my home town as well theres a band called And So I Watch You From Afar. Post rock is not my thing but you cant deny their will to do something different, creative, and rock the fuck out.

  • @scoutinternational Music is better now than ever, of course no band sound anything like sonic youth, because they're doing something different (the way it should be). I'll name you just a handful of bands this talented and creative to get you started (yes! they play tours). Animal Collective, Holy Fuck, A Silver Mt. Zion, These New Puritans, Liars....

  • @Rapchaid i agree .. but few bands have this integrity and talent that sonic youth has. most forget about integrity along the way to the middle.

  • @djdarkmonkey oh quit being so ignorant

  • @djdarkmonkey sonic youth never really went anywere dude. New Music by Sonic Youth is really good!

  • @djdarkmonkey umm..... radiohead, built to spill, modest mouse, jamie t, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, arcade fire... i could go on and on... plenty of bands out there that have a unique sound. If you want someone to come along and sound EXACTLY LIKE sonic youth then you would defeat your own wish as they could not 'be different' at least not to your standard. Get out of your box and look, its out there. You sound as if you stopped listening to music after your first bad experience. moron

  • @Biltospill maybe u should view my youtube page before u comment on me.. besides what i was saying is that there isn't bands like sonic youth in being different. they dont take chances. yes some of the bands you name are different but those are few and far between.. i go to shows all the time and let me tell you no one shows up.. what i miss is the brother hood and the real indie style not this hipster b.s

  • @djdarkmonkey well you lost me. I could name 100+ bands which are not mainstream and are taking chances. In fact, MOST bands out there are trying something new daily, look at pinback and the whole SD scene and before that it was moldy peaches and the whole chicago thing. Hot snakes,McLusky and Brenden Benson. want different try HELLA. I believe you when you say YOU cannot find these bands out there but that means NOTHING. They are out there, you just don't know about them.

  • @Biltospill well maybe just la scene just sucks it all sounds the same everyone is trying to sound like the band The xx, yes there is a few good bands.. but again these bands u name arnt really in la and if they are 10 people show up.. im a bit older and remember 100-200 people showing up for bands and didnt give a crap about the name of the band or what style it was.. they just wanted music..thats what i ment

  • @djdarkmonkey well i moved from LA in 2003 however one thing has remained consistent for all of time. Musicians follow the scene. In 1991 everyone wanted to be a part of the seattle scene... before that it was the LA and the whiskey GNR, and before that it was Boston with the pixies etc... Like it or not thats how it is. Its a collaboration and mood that drives creative spirit and to be a part of it is special even if your just watching it as a fan. Youtube is a good venue now. search

  • @djdarkmonkey I'm still trying to figure out why rock, specially alternative, has basically disappeared. Now what we have?Franz Ferdinand(Only the 1st album is original),Kaiser Chiefs, and all that "Indie" thing,Arctic Monkeys,Vampire Weekend,Wolfmother, good bands, but no comparison with the 80's and 90's,right?And even the good old bands like Sonic Youth had lost in my opinion, quality lately.Pixies are not recording anything in ages I guess, and Chris Cornell made a "R&B" album.Something is wrong.

  • @djdarkmonkey

    oh smell the flowers poppy

  • @djdarkmonkey Bands were just as afraid to be different back then as they are now; that's why Sonic Youth was amazing and exceptional. Don't forget that most of the music and bands that came out of the 80s, especially those that were popular then, were terrible, and much of it sounded the same.

This decade and the ones following it probably won't be any different, but we can be thankful that these artists grew up listening to the beautiful sounds of Sonic Youth :) they'll benefit from it.

  • I don't know why but it annoys me that all you can say about Kim is from lust. Kim and Sonic are almost like gods and they have so much beauty that you have to include something prolific if you are going to confess about your weakness and debasement of the soul. Lift your spirit out of the dust and wear you smudges proudly for Kim but don't disrespect her or well you get fuckin moshed upside the head tee hee!!

  • this and 'catholic block' make the best opening salvo on an album ever. just love the guitars on this. the only time i saw them, they were top of the bill and pavement touring 'slanted & enchanted' were on before them. they don't make gigs like that anymore.

  • @Iamcola65 You're fuckin annoying

  • @Iamcola65 clearly someone who has no musical pallet this is got to be the most drab lifeless insult to a great insperation to alternative music i own almost evrery record relased by the band and really enjoyed there music still doo

  • @Iamcola65 dude, do you know how ignorant you sound? :D

  • @XxBoredDarkAngelxX you shouldn't be saying anything... my tender little child

  • @Iamcola65 schizophrenians com

  • @Iamcola65 look here u little prick u got ur opinions we got ours, we like Sonic Youth, if u dont, then fuck off

  • @CrazyDan1984 OOOH SOMEONE'S COOL CUZ HE'S ALTERNATIVE

I get to do what I want, fuckhead. Try to stop me.

  • @CrazyDan1984 I think he's a sXePhuck, Fred, LiveLavaLive fan. he's a Douchebag!

  • @CrazyDan1984 this music is some major suckage

  • @CrazyDan1984 well said my friend

  • Whats thurston saying in the beginning?

  • @godwhyisthistaken Bats, bats, bats, bats, bats, bats, and the Boy?
