@waybexxx I meant to say this film in particular. Although I do fuckin love Goblin, especially the main theme for profondo rosso. Cheers for the correction though! :)
My friends like this movie but I saw it years ago. I don't know what the big deal is about this flick I mean it is not really scary and there is not much blood either. It just bored me it seemed most of the movie is watching people wander around quietly looking for things.
I'm all for intelligent commentary on "low" cinema genres such as horror, and kudos for the obvious admiration for the film, but I found this somewhat pretentious and unilluminating. Was it really necessary to bring in tangential references to Tarkovsky and Antonioni, "trapezoidal areas" and the like? And Emerson's "torturous" score actually fits Argento's stylized and surrealistic visuals like a glove.
Emerson's soundtrack is bad-ass. I disagree with the reviewers perspective, but, hey, it's his priority, no? I gave him a thumbs up because he has the balls to mention Tarkovsky and Argento in the same breath.....
@BARCACROSSESTHEALPS Agreed, Emerson and Argento go together like a motherfucker. His films would probably not have been anywhere as good to me if not for Emerson.
i liked old horrors. they're quite interesting. i would defiantly say that the argentos make the best movies ever. i praise him for making the horrors he has made.
Now that you mention it, this and Suspiria are quite formulaic. I'd however not consider either film to be misogynistic. Suspira, despite being mainly an all female cast, features the only male character as a helpless blind man whose only companion, his dog, turns on him. Then again I dont know shit about nothing.
Tarantino exploiting the fragility of the female figure? Have you ever seen a Tarantino film? give me an example of a fragile female character in a Tarantino film.
Having the audacity to call Emerson's score the "worst torture of all" automatically puts you in a very special category of musical genius mate!!I suppose you also think that Stravinski is "noisy", LvB unnecessarily loud, Bill Evans boring,Deep Purple hideous but you just lllove U2,Talking Heads and Charles Ives...This movie has one of the most enchanting main themes of all time ferfxsake!
I think the "retard" doing the audio comment knows exactly what he is talking about and is insightful. I, for one,am happy to have taken the time to watch and listen.
Davvero sono favolosi ? non ho ancora completato tutta la raccolta dei film di Dario, anche perchè sono indecisa su cosa mettere nella mia videoteca personale e cosa no. I suoi lavori degli ultimi anni mi hanno molto deluso
God, your brilliant....but wrong. I loved your outake on this....but (1) I loved Keith Emersons score. I think Argento saw video games like "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill" years before they were born. Books could literally be written about the first two films and and a few paragraphs 'bout the third, MOTHER OF TEARS. Inferno is still my fave (go Figure)THE HOUSE is the star of the second film, with the occupant a secondary charachter.
this guy mentions tarantino in the same breath as argento. The difference between these two directors is that Argento creates. I was once told that a film should be as a painting. When painting the masters made sure everything was the right colour the right postion to make it perfect Argento does this the problem with tarantino is he does not create he recreates and that is the difference. both great but only on a master.
Have you seen the types of movies these film school nincompoops make, the excruciatingly pretentious pettiness of ideas, and self worshiping twaddle? It's the same with their opinions about films by legends like Argento, they all develop the speech pattern and lexicon for these sorts of discussions, it distracts from their lack of insight and inability to grasp less safe and intangible artistic sensibilities or concepts. Film school is largely just an intellectual fashion show, sans intellect.
Hi ToeMas - thanks for writing those kind words -- I saw your own site dedicated to Dario and it's very impressive. That's pretty funny what you had to say about the rules of YouTube ("I guess girls getting their throats's slit and eyes cut out is okay, but a little nudity isn't allowed")
You can find out more about my own films and film writing on my website alsolikelife. If you want to read more about INFERNO follow the link in the details on this video clip.
And thanks for checking it out! Dario Argento is such an inspiration. I didnt like Inferno all that much, but I liked the visuals and agree with lots of the stuff you said.

Such a pretentious review. Argento is nothing but entirely camp in his perversity, this is why we love him. What was this reviewer on anyway?!?!

I tried to look at it from the same critical view as you have
I guess its because I want to be a director and haven't yet graduated and gone to film shool.
You seem educated! Do you want to be a director or movie reviewer?
