I don't get it. MTV used to be great in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. I watched the music videos that made MTV famous in its glory years. But now MTV is PURE CRAP. Why did MTV had ditch the music in FAVOR of crappy reality shows. The only music video channel right now is VH1 Classic. Can anyone explain to me why MTV wasn't the same channel as it used to be.

MTV should be renamed to RTV because its definitely not about music anymore, but about some false form of reality. I think the main reason TRL was canceled was because everyone started watching music videos on the internet so the ratings collapsed. I mean why request a music video for tv show when you can watch it whenever you want on youtube on your laptop and find the music videos you looking for.. Times have changed.. So I think the internet and youtube played a HUGE role on that.

Crazy that MTV would just dump TRL though. It was the cornerstone of the network at its peak and toward the end it ended up being one of the only real music shows the network had left. What's worse is that they didn't replace with anything but repeats of their crappy reality shows!

MTV hasn't been the same for a LONG time. MTV used to be cool. I loved watching it when I was a kid, I'm 21 now, They stopped playing rock like in 1999 and only played rap, r&b, pop, and hip hop. And then the videos were only clips. MTV use to be about music, now it's all about reality shows, and preps. I miss the old days. I miss carson daly, and the old VJ's like Jesse. I still see Carson in his late night show. I miss the old TRL, and the old MTV.
