I watched this couple times, & made it little bit larger! I single crocheted after 1st row of clusters so it could double, end up with 21 on next row, kept going around & added 3 rows & ended it same way you did only I put shell on tip all the way around. It is beautiful in pink, it is so fun to play with your clusters, thank you so much!
@beadoholic -- I am brand new to crocheting and this was my very first hat! I was wondering though how to make it bigger and I was also wanting to put the shell on the edges. I got an idea of what you did from your comment, but do you happen to have any more detailed instructions? Thanks in advance!
What a pleasure it was to crochet with you today. Bet you didn't even know you were right here with me did ya? This video was AWESOME! After making 7 of these babies today I am off to find another project of yours. Maybe I can find something on yo-yo crochet?
@pherluvsu hello unfortunately mikey doesn't have this in written pattern form but I liked it so much that i watched the video first and wrote down the steps and then i had a written copy to go with the video!!!! Just an idea....hope it helps....chanel @ mikeys helpdesk
Hi again. I tired again with a Bernat chunky soft yarn which I think us 2ply chunky. I used a J(10/6.00MM) hook. Is the yarn still too small? The hat came out wide but short. I tried it on my 5 month and the circumstance fit him but was really short. Should I be getting a different yarn?
@Bobeba80 well the yarn is right and your hook is right......the size you made and the sz the pattern makes is for a newborn thats why it doesn't fit your 5 month old........if you want it to fit him or that age and the width is right but not the length you can just add rows..... instead of stopping with the pattern keep doing 1-? more rows around to get the length you need.......good luck......chanel :)
@Bobeba80 mikey doesnt say but if I had to guess I think hes using a chunky yarn here which means it would be a 5ply ..I think even a 4ply would work but your 3 ply yarn is definitely why the hat came out so small.... you could try doubling up your 3 ply yarn(use two strands of the same yarn at the same time) which will make the yarn a bit bulkier but because its a little bulkier that will make the hat come out slightly bigger....hope this helps.....chanel @ mikeys helpdesk........ :)
How do you make this hat larger? I see the answer below, I understand thicker wool and needle, but how do you know what size the round should be? I'm very very new at crocheting, so I apologize if my question seems silly. Nowhere on the internet does it show you how to measure a head and crochet accordingly. Or at least I haven't found it, and I've been searching all day now.
Thank you so much, I am learning and love how you teach us to crochet.
@TCHUTCHUCA77 thicker yarn or larger crochet hook may increase the hat sz enough to make it bigger for you if not keep adding rounds at the top of the hat so it fits the top of the head before you add the sides.....hope this helps...chanel @mikeys helpdesk.. :)
Thank you for this tutorial. I haven't crocheted in years and even then I wasn't able to do much, but I was able to follow this video and for the first time I was able to complete a project. Woohoo! My daughter is 6 mos old so I had to make another one and made it bigger. Even though I'm a beginner I was able to adjust it easily to make it bigger.
Thank you so much for making this video. I love to crochet but I'm still kinda basic. Now I can make my own baby hats for my life like dolls :)
I haven't been able to attend church since my mom passed away in 88....
After viewing this video and hearing all the lovely singing in the background I didn't realize how much I miss the Christian fellowship. I hope to go back soon :)
I have never lost my faith in God tho. God bless you and your crocheting ventures :)
Hi, I'm a beginner at crocheting and have been trying to find a relative easy pattern for baby beanies. They are just so adorable with those flowers on them and would look great on my precious daughter. How would I make this hat a little larger?
@dangil54 hi from mikeyssmail helpdesk there are a couple of ways you could increase the sz of the hat 1) increase the sz of your hook 2) when you start the hat increase the round (at the top of the hat) untile its the sz you are looking for also using a thicker yarn will make patterns a but bigger!
How can I make it bigger for my 7 months old baby? about 16 inches.. Do I just need a bigger hook ? I really like this pattern. I think it will suit the spring and summer very well because of the gabs.
i like them...however i kinda feel that they still look a little large for preemie hats... and even though they look great, i'm not sure how well they will keep the baby warm...unfortunately preemies need lots of heat... so, if I did something like this, i'd use fine yarn, and instead of crochet, i'd knit so there would be less holes... still i love the conept, and you explain it all so well....don't think i hate this, i congrat you on a great video and i hope ot see some more great ones
to add...I love the fact that you crochet just like me...except exactly opposite, I'm left handed, but I hold the needle just like you...just mirrored....I need to add you on ravelry if I haven't already..Are you on Ravelry?
the average size of a new born head they say is 14.5" circumference... When I compared this hat to that dimension, these hats are smaller... but I guess it depends on the material and hook right.

What type of yarn? I tried a J hook and my hat was sooo tiny. I was using baby soft 3 ply.
