20% christians?!? I know maaaaany people here in Sweden and I have NEVER been in the same class with christian people during my schooltime, ever!. No one in my family or my friends are christians. I think I've "talked" to 2 people my whole life here in Sweden that are christians. That's all... where the heck are those 20%? Hiding in the forest up north?
@morotshare Yeah, we are all members of the Swedish church, since the day we are born but that doesn't make us christian, since some of us doesn't believe in god, like myself. I don't care about church and im gonna write myself out of there soon. But 15%-25% christians is still a "lot" if you ask me. And I have never had any friends or schoolmates or what so ever that are christian, so I don't really know where they are hiding :)
@morotshare Are you swedish yourself? And I believe there are a few people that would say if you ask them: "Yeah, sure... I believe in god" with no real meaning of it. And I think many people that just say they believe in god doesn't know much about christianity at all. It's just weird since im born in Sweden and I've been switching school a lot during my schooltime and I have never ever met any christian. I just don't get it. AGAIN :P
@morotshare That's funny cause "17% of all swedes says religion is important. Less than 4% of those 17% attends public worship during an average week. about 2% are regular attendees". So you know a lot of those 2%? I guess you are christian yourself and know other christians through church etc? Cause really... 2% who attend church regularly aren't a big number of our 9,5 million people.
@tokzan And where was the survey done? All of Sweden? Did people from all ages answer? Surveys never really tell good answers

@morotshare You don't have to answer this again. But there's a lot of surveys and all of them says there are around 80% atheists in Sweden, one even said there was 90% atheists in year 2000. I believe atheists are growing bigger for every year in Sweden so. I think you are way to far off with 1,5m - 2m christians. I would say: not a chance in the world. And + many people that prolly answered the surveys are muslims too, which most often are foreigners or not 100% swedish :) bye

Lol. The problem I told you about, is caused because of the greedy fucks who OWN the provate health companies. ALSO, OUR private health cover and system is better than yours too. I shall continue -
@randomperson2538 And yes, cut spending on Military too. See, you don't know anything other than your black and white universe where every Republican is a warmonger and every DemocRAT is a hippie crusader. People cannot afford most private systems because of our welfare policies and the minimum wage, which drive up prices for companies who are forced to pay employees above what they deserve. Your pay = your effort, not a fixed amount. Basic economics buddy.
Republicans. Warmongering, religious nuts afraid of change.

So... the governemnt is making wealth companies pay their employees a minimum wage which they use as an excuse to jack up their prices? Is that what you are saying?
@randomperson2538 and that's why Australia has all the best doctors in the world ... oh wait, AMERICA does. guess why? because of our private health-care system. it's amazing. I'm not going to let some sniveling koala hugging socialist cut me open - a moron who believes that stealing from everyone to give to the few is something that's beneficial to the population and the economy. how retarded.
@SanguineBullet667 When someone gets Private health cover they don't have to get hurt to claim. They can claim on anything to do with health. Including mental help. AND if you buy private health cover (and you earn less than 70k a year) then your taxes get reduced.
"stealing from everyone to give to the few" That's american priiivate healthcare. The rich fuckers get all the money while the poor and lower mid-class have no choice but to either live with their ailments or pay THOUSANDS. continued
@randomperson2538 Are you f'ing insane? Nobody is forcing you to get private healthcare. On the other hand public is garnered by taxes - which are collected at gun point (you go to jail motherf*cker). This is against Liberty. Geeze you're one messed up kid.
@randomperson2538 Medicare, Medicaid, the public school system, welfare, post office, military (DUH), almost every library, and so much more. And in each case, the private version is much MUCH more efficient, ethical, and prosperous. 'Screwing' is subjective. In each case, these public versions of these are effectively 'screwing' the American people by providing sub-par utilities for the amount of money it takes to build them.
@SanguineBullet667 haha, I guess screwing IS subjective. But what I meant is, how many people go to claim on their healthcare but get turned down and can't afford legal help. Also your public school system is fucking terrible lol.
"Nobody is forcing you to get private healthcare." But if you can't afford it, any medical operation is still gonna cost thousands. Except with the limited public healthcare you guys have now. You HAVE still got it right? or did the tea-baggers bitch about it too muc
So republicans don't spend? I believe both of Bush spent a lot at war.
I watched a documentary about us economical policy and how finacial companys and banks through lobbies with the government was getting rid of all regulation at the finacial market. That was a big part of today financial crise of US and a lot if ex-policys and advisers of the White house was earnaing huge money at it.
It's okay with me to pat high taxes and let the government spend it, as long it's spent on right things. Sometime it is, sometime it's not. I believie we all get better quality for less money if we/government invest for all of us instead for every one to buy/pay all service individual. I also believe in a system were rich people pay a litle more and poor people pay a litle less.
@groundguy last time I checked it was 90%. We've had peace for over 100 years and have one of the highest living standards in the world, so yea, it's pretty much heaven. The problem is that we're so closed off and don't express out emotions that much, we generally keep to ourselves... So Sweden is a bit dull, but compared to a country at war we're heaven on earth.
@trub1n What I’m saying is that 80% are members of the Swedish church, so calling these people atheist is not correct. I believe these people are mostly like me and my family; we don’t go to church but we are Christians in the sense that we celebrate Christian traditions and holidays and we are still members of a Christian community (Swedish church).
@ScandiNemo It's not that weird since Swedes was born into the Swedish church. It changed a few years ago though, most people do however still baptize their children as it's somewhat a tradition.
@trub1n Born into it or not, that doesn’t explain it though. So why don’t they leave the church if they consider themselves to be atheists? Why would anyone who calls themselves an atheist want to contribute to any religion? I’m kind of tired of people feeling the need to constantly distance themselves from religion, bragging about being atheist and how cool it is. Turns out the majority are Christians.
@ScandiNemo Because most of us were automatically written in to the christian church when we were born (until 1996). Nowadays people tend to leave it as soon as they can, and the Swedish church is loosing about 1.3%+ of Swedens population per year (Which is about 121420 people per year).
@RemixPicture But still, around 80% are Christians. There's no denying that. The width of their Christian faith however is debatable. Personally I think it’s a good thing people are dropping out. The Church is just too political these days. The church doesn’t believe in themselves; why would anyone believe in them.
Less than 70% are just members of the church, most of them were automatically written as members at birth. Only 2% of those actively go to the christian church.
In 2005 only 23% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god" according to the Eurobarometer Poll. Today it's less than 17%.
@RemixPicture I’m not entirely sure (70-80) of the percentage; it might be around 70% now. That’s still a large portion of the Swedish people. It doesn’t matter how many of these people admit that they don’t actually believe in a God because if you are a part of a religious community you’re a part of that particular faith. Don’t like it; leave the church because as long as you’re in it you are a Christian. How hard can it be to grasp this? I love how you atheists are so angry.
@RemixPicture The difference is 10%, grow up. It’s not some fucking essay. It’s still a large majority of the people. There’s nothing by the way that says that all of those 30% outside the church are atheists. Around 6,5% are Muslim and we have plenty of other religious minorities in our county. Just because you choose to leave church doesn’t necessarily mean that you label yourself an atheist. I have people in my family who have left church; they don’t consider themselves atheists.
@ScandiNemo Personally I don’t believe many atheists are that free from religion. In my experience a lot of the people who call themselves atheist have just switched sides and instead of believing in a religion they have chosen to believe in no God. But their faith or anti-faith (or whatever you call it) are just as strong. I seriously don’t give a damn. I can’t believe people spend their time celebrating religion or no religion. Why are atheists so obsessed with religion?
@ScandiNemo Dude, again get your facts straight. before making another post please go look up the real statistics of the belief of a god in Sweden. And maybe look p the definition of a christian and an atheist while you're at it.
@satanihelvetet If you are a member of a church or any religious community you are a part of that religion regardless of how religious or strong your beliefs are. There are plenty of priests who don’t believe in God, but they are still viewed as Christians. Anyone who is a member of a church is a “Christian”.
@groundguy 80%? I'm swedish and I know like 2-3 religious people out of hundreds of people. If as many as 20% are religious then they sure are good at keeping their mouths shut about it. Good enough for me, I guess.
@groundguy "The most religious nation in the world is India, the most irreligious nation in the world is Sweden" - From the movie Religulous. I love that quote :D
@sinachiniforoosh Yeah and if you would freeze your toe or something you could always just go to the hospital without having to worry about selling your house.
Just to put this into context atheists in Sweden dont "assault" religous people like in some other countries. This is from a tv-show called "in your face" where the comedian were supposed to make fun about the audience. He also went to a mosqe and some other nonreligous places. But are all trying to be peaceful in sweden by allowing people to believe in what they want to believe unlike some other places.
People seem amazed at the tolerance of the church he's in. The reason might be that scandinavia has the highest percent of atheism in the entire world. And without trying to offend anyone, atheists seem to be relatively open minded about religions. And when the religius people don't have such a advantage in numbers (America?), they seem to be open minded aswell. This equals people that accept others in the society.
@TheMrSharth Hmm, I got those statistics from the first link after a google search, and I have to admit that they seem a bit too high. But you get the idea.
@TheMrSharth That is a really good statement! Its so true. It would be interesting to se what would happen to the world if more countries became more like Sweden and denmark.
Of course this man would NEVER do this in a mosque would he? Would he have the courage to stand up in a mosque in Sweden that serves the new immigrant community and remind Muslims at Friady night prayer of their cult's brutality in the past and TODAY toward gays, women, and non Muslims? Christianity is an easy target today by this man's ilk who persecuted and killed tens of millions in the former USSR not that long ago.
Well, that was weird. Sweden is it? Well, it seems an extremely liberal and tolerant country, very relaxed. Vast land area and natural resources with a comparatively tiny population allows it to wallow in this cradle-to-grave socialist experiment all the fuzzy thinkers around the world seem to laud. It's gone down since the 80s, but Sweden had a huge suicide rate esp. among young men. Probably down now because the cattle have grown accustomed to their insidiously benevolent enslavement.
Well either the churches are doing so poorly in Sweden they open them up as comedy clubs, or the Christians in this country don't even buy the whole God and Jesus nonsense. Could it be that Christianity here is just a social club? I say this because I'm not really sure about what I'm looking at.
@bigboy45454545 It's quite amazing that the church let him do the act. In my opinion it's a sign of strength from their side, if anything. I could only guess why they allowed him to do it. I feel that "the collective mind" in Sweden value being open-minded, and we might have a hard time setting limits because we risk being politically incorrect. Might have had something to do with it, but certainly can't say for sure. Most "christians" in Sweden believe in their own version of christianity.
@MrEmilios Well Sweden is about 85% Atheist, so maybe it's the only way they can make a buck, buy selling the people lemonade and rice crispy squares. 6 old superstitious farts on a Sunday won't pay the mortgage.
@bigboy45454545 Yes, i think it's fewer then 5% that actually belive in the bible. My grandma is "christian" she goes to church and stuff but only because she's in the choir and have friends there, she dosent belive in a life after death nor Zombie-Jesus
@bigboy45454545 It's rather a testimony to the tolerance that congregation excercises by letting a strongly worded atheist perform his act in their church, isn't it?
No no, these people are true christians following the teachings of christianity unlike those homophobic "christian" hate-mongerers that you can find a lot of in the states. These Christians have understood the "love your neighbor", "blessed are the peacemakers" and "don't hate" teachings from the bible.
@bigboy45454545 Sounds like the way it should be. At least this way they seem to take what makes sense for them, like everyone else, except they're honest about it, and don't buy into all of the hate mongering and immorality that is preached in the bible.
@bigboy45454545 Just to explain (a bit late): the comedian had done a series of stand ups where he talked about different subjects (religion was one of them), when that show was over he got some critique that it's easy to say stuff like that when the crowd won't take offence. So he then went around to places were representants of the groups he had mocked would be (like a church, for example) and did the same show there to show that he didn't change his materials.
@bigboy45454545 I worked in a church (in Denmark, granted) despite being agnostic (openly), and my personal impression was that, yes, by and large, it was the social aspect that kept people coming back.
Looks like being a Swede is pretty awesome... O.O
How nice it is that a priest doesn't feel he's entitled to anything extra than an ordinary guy, and just goes on with it even with provocative stuff. And also being so careful not to tramp on anyone's freedom of speech(!) and generally sounding like he isn't god's personal prophet on earth.
Awesome, just awesome, I can't imagine anything like that where I'm from. :(
Funny stuff too, I'm just a bit overwhelmed by that last part. O.O
@FailARN100 Whoever you got these questionable stats from I would like to know.... but whether they are true or not, I am willing to bet that nearly 100% of them are religion-based.
Although I would agree that suicide bombing is not necessarily exclusive to Islam, it is incidentally almost entirely unique to religion.
@Freethinker12341 While I'm not overly familiar with the statistics (I read a Swedish report on it some time ago, but didn't look further into it), I do know for a fact that the vast majority of terror attacks in Europe are conducted by separatists and political extremists. People are often surprised to discover just how few the religious attacks are, given how Islamic suicide bombings and the like are given such huge media coverage.
@Chaos876 Regarding religion, being swedish is absolutely awesome :D I'm not sure why but we seem to be more openminded about it. Personally I am an atheist, and almost everyone I know is, however, the few christians that I do know and hang out with have almost exactly the same oppinions and thoughts that us "normal" folk have. I think I know maybe 10-15 people who believe/belong to a religion, it really is not a big deal over here :P where are you from btw? are you religious?
@Chaos876 The priest just doesn;t have any backbone, so he plays it safe and hopes for a stalemate. He wouldn't get one from ,say, Christopher Hitchens or someone of similar anti-theist philosophy.
This is so swedish... An atheist mocks christianity, and all the church members including the priest laughs. Everybody agrees, total consensus. This is the result of very effective brainwashing from the most successful soft totalitarian government in the world.
SanguineBullet667 3 months ago
@SanguineBullet667 When someone gets Private health cover they don't have to get hurt to claim. They can claim on anything to do with health. Including mental help. AND if you buy private health cover (and you earn less than 70k a year) then your taxes get reduced.
"stealing from everyone to give to the few" That's american priiivate healthcare. The rich fuckers get all the money while the poor and lower mid-class have no choice but to either live with their ailments or pay THOUSANDS. continued
randomperson2538 3 months ago
@randomperson2538 Are you f'ing insane? Nobody is forcing you to get private healthcare. On the other hand public is garnered by taxes - which are collected at gun point (you go to jail motherf*cker). This is against Liberty. Geeze you're one messed up kid.
SanguineBullet667 3 months ago
@SanguineBullet667
1. name me 5-10 things that aren't privatised, preferably ones that don't screw everyone.
2. The rest of your words are just pitiful name calling.
randomperson2538 3 months ago
@randomperson2538 Medicare, Medicaid, the public school system, welfare, post office, military (DUH), almost every library, and so much more. And in each case, the private version is much MUCH more efficient, ethical, and prosperous. 'Screwing' is subjective. In each case, these public versions of these are effectively 'screwing' the American people by providing sub-par utilities for the amount of money it takes to build them.
SanguineBullet667 3 months ago

@satanihelvetet They do too, just less compared to Democrats. The Repubs who spend are apart of the problem too.

It's okay with me to pat high taxes and let the government spend it, as long it's spent on right things. Sometime it is, sometime it's not. @groundguy utopias don't have falling currencies and socialist welfare polices that bankrupt the nation.
SanguineBullet667 3 months ago
@groundguy last time I checked it was 90%. We've had peace for over 100 years and have one of the highest living standards in the world, so yea, it's pretty much heaven. The problem is that we're so closed off and don't express out emotions that much, we generally keep to ourselves... So Sweden is a bit dull, but compared to a country at war we're heaven on earth.
Attero93 3 months ago
@groundguy 90% It's euphoria. ;)
MrMiriland 3 months ago
@groundguy Well 80% are NOT atheists in Sweden.
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo So you're saying that 80% are religious or "believes in god"? You couldn't be more wrong.
trub1n 2 months ago
@trub1n What I’m saying is that 80% are members of the Swedish church, so calling these people atheist is not correct. I believe these people are mostly like me and my family; we don’t go to church but we are Christians in the sense that we celebrate Christian traditions and holidays and we are still members of a Christian community (Swedish church).
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo It's not that weird since Swedes was born into the Swedish church. It changed a few years ago though, most people do however still baptize their children as it's somewhat a tradition.
trub1n 2 months ago
@trub1n Born into it or not, that doesn’t explain it though. So why don’t they leave the church if they consider themselves to be atheists? Why would anyone who calls themselves an atheist want to contribute to any religion? I’m kind of tired of people feeling the need to constantly distance themselves from religion, bragging about being atheist and how cool it is. Turns out the majority are Christians.
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo Because most of us were automatically written in to the christian church when we were born (until 1996). Nowadays people tend to leave it as soon as they can, and the Swedish church is loosing about 1.3%+ of Swedens population per year (Which is about 121420 people per year).
RemixPicture 2 months ago
@RemixPicture But still, around 80% are Christians. There's no denying that. The width of their Christian faith however is debatable. Personally I think it’s a good thing people are dropping out. The Church is just too political these days. The church doesn’t believe in themselves; why would anyone believe in them.
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo That's a bunch of bullshit.
Less than 70% are just members of the church, most of them were automatically written as members at birth. Only 2% of those actively go to the christian church.
In 2005 only 23% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god" according to the Eurobarometer Poll. Today it's less than 17%.
Get your fucking facts straight.
RemixPicture 2 months ago
@RemixPicture I’m not entirely sure (70-80) of the percentage; it might be around 70% now. That’s still a large portion of the Swedish people. It doesn’t matter how many of these people admit that they don’t actually believe in a God because if you are a part of a religious community you’re a part of that particular faith. Don’t like it; leave the church because as long as you’re in it you are a Christian. How hard can it be to grasp this? I love how you atheists are so angry.
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo
No, being a part of church automatically at birth does not equal being a christian.
Secondly, you come here with bullshit facts that you pulled out of your own ass and expect people to just go along with it? Grow up.
Definition of a christian:
"Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus."
Also, you're saying that everyone who are atheists are angry? Probably just because we disagree with your beliefs. Again, grow up.
RemixPicture 2 months ago
@RemixPicture The difference is 10%, grow up. It’s not some fucking essay. It’s still a large majority of the people. There’s nothing by the way that says that all of those 30% outside the church are atheists. Around 6,5% are Muslim and we have plenty of other religious minorities in our county. Just because you choose to leave church doesn’t necessarily mean that you label yourself an atheist. I have people in my family who have left church; they don’t consider themselves atheists.
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo Personally I don’t believe many atheists are that free from religion. In my experience a lot of the people who call themselves atheist have just switched sides and instead of believing in a religion they have chosen to believe in no God. But their faith or anti-faith (or whatever you call it) are just as strong. I seriously don’t give a damn. I can’t believe people spend their time celebrating religion or no religion. Why are atheists so obsessed with religion?
ScandiNemo 2 months ago
@ScandiNemo Dude, again get your facts straight. before making another post please go look up the real statistics of the belief of a god in Sweden. And maybe look p the definition of a christian and an atheist while you're at it.

@satanihelvetet If you are a member of a church or any religious community you are a part of that religion regardless of how religious or strong your beliefs are.

Atheism
Sweden - 85%
Denmark - 80%
Norway - 72%
Finland - 60%
