Great song! Honky Tonk Women was released on 4 July 1969. Apollo 11 made the first ever manned landing on the moon 16 days later on 20 July 1969. What a month for human achievement! See a cover version at: loosecovers.blogspot.com
@awhiteman19861:08 man handling groupies 1:11 looks like a man handler got his foot caught in a guitar cable 1:27 they had a lot of big Ampeg amps then Ampeg was in linden new jersey then they had a magazine called Plug
Great live version, and just a few months after the song was released, on 4 July 1969. The Stones used to play it in open G tuning, but it's OK in standard tuning too, e.g. The Loose Covers version of Honky Tonk Women at: loosecovers.blogspot.com
This clip and other songs from the 1969 NYC concerts are in the movie "The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter" which has been pretty easy to buy since 1992.
great rock and roll band. but think about the doors, how much cooler and badder the doors were. think about it. doors made jagger and richards look like schoolboys.mick must have been jealous.
@putdownan8dude Mick and Keef' were able to release six 'classic' albums after another... The Doors could only manage two. Jim Morrison was a pretty boy/waster, who stoners become infatuated with, claiming his pretentious poetry was what 'enticed' them to him, when in reality it was simply his external aesthetics, and the good musicianship of Robbie, Ray and John. If Jim Morrison had looked like Mick Jagger or John Lennon, he wouldn't have gotten anywhere.
@BlockoVision the doors were a band all four of them made up the doors. they also released 6 great albums.. whats your point, mate? the stones still come up wankers!
@putdownan8dude Only two of The Doors albums can truly be considered 'classic' IMO. And this is coming from a guy who used to be obsessed with The Doors... until I was introduced to The Stones. Robbie, Ray and John were good musicians, but nowhere near on par with Mick, Keith, Brian/Mick T or Charlie. Without Jim Morrison, The Doors were nothing... that's because the band was one of superficiality. The whole band was more about Jim Morrison's charisma as it was about Manzarek's keyboard.
@BlockoVision all of the doors LPs were great "imo" and they were all unique and stood apart. from each other and from their peers. ray john and robby were a tight unit, full of jazz, raga, blues and proto punk influences. morrison set the standard for front men, not a posing lady like robert plant. not a fake personality like elvis. he was REAL and the doors were a great band. The stones' best musicians are charlie watts and keith richard. jagger is a inauthentic a blues singer as they come.
@putdownan8dude Jim Morrison tried to distance himself from his 'fans', by writing pretentious poetry and trying to become renowned as a intellectual, rather than a 'pretty boy' (which essentially, was what he was). Mick Jagger is a multi-instrumentalist, possessing more musical talent in his big toe, than Jim had in his entire body. Morrison might have had a decent voice... but as a musician, he pales in comparison. And how can you say 'The Soft Parade' is a great album? It's fucking awful.
@BlockoVision the stones couldn't think of soft parade unless an old blues man thought of it first! i dont care about your personal preference for the stones, but don't rip the Doors, they are a american blues rock pysch band and they have nothing to do with the Stones, a bunch of overpaid rockstar professionals.
@BlockoVision your all mixed up Mick said" Im the sexiest singer" Morrisons voice was way better more versatile the doors are better musicians all their albums are great
Total phuckin' LOL DAWG! He definitely looks like he should be carrying around an oxygen tank with a hose on it blasting people in the forehead and calling people friendo while flippin' a quarter.
@piperpig Idiots? Those are fans, girl fans, that want a little taste of Mick and the boys. Nothing wrong with that. That's rock'n'roll, buddy. Hell's Angels are a bunch of idiots that RUIN shows (*cough*Altamont*cough*)
If you think the idiot at 1:35 is a girl, then you're in for plenty of surprises if you ever emerge from your mom's basement and try to pick up women.
@piperpig No need to be a cocksucker, I just think it's stupid you wish for the Hell's Angels to be there due to them making a mess at Altamont. Please refrain from a jackass, I know it's hard....but try.
@robbie2737 It's not the same version because this one is not as good and Mick stopped singing when he was rushed. On Ya Ya's he sings it well all the way through.
I read somewhere that Jagger didn't allow press passes in the first ten rows because he didn't want blase people that close to him. He needed the energy from the true fans to fuel his performance. Of course the downside was that the fans climbed on stage and tried to maul him.
Tony Funches is wearing a black t-shirt when he removes the first stage crasher, and he's wearing a purple tie dye t-shirt when he removes the second and third stage crashers. Charlotte Zwerin (RIP) was a great editor but she couldn't have known Youtube would let us see the seams.
@8technical I saw them there in '72 the first night, unforgettable fantastic show. Wish I had saw them this tour in good ole '69. AWESOME!!!! Happy Holidays!!
Oh man, I was there at the Garden. I would never be able to forget that day, it actually changed my life. Since then, I've never stopped going to concerts, and I am still a happy musician. What great times !! I think I had about six girlfriends at the same time and I was only 17. I just love life and people. The Stones made me an animal, ...a nice animal.
Thank god for the subtitles I would havebeen lost without them.
