They have such wonderful minds and character. Go there and watch them circle their small cage over and over for as long as you can stand it. You can leave then...they can't...ever. From a world of ocean sounds to the drone of water pumps and muffled little humans. Swimming in formation over 40 miles of tremendous ocean scenary each day, a dream from far away where the others were slaughtered. All for the dollars you pay to watch the circling til you can't stand it...til you WON'T stand for it.
Texas State Aquarium has three male dolphins. All were born in captivity. No dolphin in the United States has come nor will ever come from Japan or the wild.
@aqua0501 ...that's certainly better...if the children's 'take-away' experience here is, "restricted confinement is normally very wrong as is patronizing other aquariums that use slaughter survivors". How well do you think the exhibition gets that message across? You could ask the kids what they learned as they leave. And ask the TSA, "are you working to remedy the Taiji slaughters or numbing audiences to such treatment?"
@ccskatepark Whether you agree with captivity or not, these animals are part of aquariums. They don't know the ocean so they can't aspire to be wild dolphins. However they know people. They can't be released into the wild so the next best think that aquariums like these can do is provide these animals with enrichment, love, and the utmost care, and in the process, educate the public about these magnificent animals by inspiring connections through interactions.
@aqua0501 ...captive born is way less cruel ...they don't know better. Appreciate your answer, just getting worked up for Taiji. Never took "don't know the ocean" too seriously. Kind of a slander on intelligence and instinct evolved so perfectly for the ocean...unless they are crippled or don't know up from down. Sure don't want to slam this aquarium, though...it ranks high in my mind. If they aren't on maalox and stress meds, they're doing good no doubt.
@ccskatepark These aquariums defiantly do have a responsibility in educating the public about these slaughters in Japan, Norway, and other countries. An educated mind is a mind that cares.
Everyone must see The Cove, a documentary....these captured dolphins develop ulcers they become so depressed. they only live 1/3 of a regular dolphin's life span. they also commit suicide because they become so miserable, e.g. - the actual flipper. they also come from Taiji, Japan. In this cove they kill 23,000 dolphins a year and the seldom rest are sent to these them parks. DO NOT give them your money. Let them live in their home. That is a basic need and want for all living creatures.
@mojode2 I just heard about this horrible news 2 days ago from an interview from the man who helped film the movie " The Cove", and I can not believe this is happening and had no clue. Also in Denmark and who knows where else. Thanks for your comment, people need to become aware of the murdering of the dolphins and whales.
Lol, everytime we go they are always peeing in the water lol. But they are very entertaining and beautiful. When we went they were above water and stuff doing tricks, so we didnt get to see them as long as you did in this video. :o(
dolphins r so much stronger than they look...... could break a human body part if they hit a person hard enough.......but such beautiful animals too....... fun to ride on!!!!!!
